How is he a League One goalkeeper when he's already had one very good season at Championship level? I accept his ability at the top level is in question but let's not go for hyperbolic nonsense.

We haven't kept a clean sheet in the Premier League since November. If you're waving them off now, I think you've missed the boat.

My God - What supporters we have.

His hit ratio may be remarkably low, but @cambridgeshire canary has struck gold here. A thoroughly enjoyable read! I actually laughed out loud at the greatest contribution to a football forum ever. This tickled me on the internet yesterday:

Seems like you've sh@t the bed already.

The stupidity of some of our supporters is astounding. We know he is a decent keeper - he may have something to prove, but that is the challenge for him - to get the best out of himself and get his confidence back. The running down of one of our players when he has barely had a chance to prove himself is just stupid. Idiots.

We're the only club at this level who's fans totally **** their pants at the idea of spending £10m or so on a player. Honestly if one signing in this window could potentially bankrupt us then we're clearly not that well run are we...

Watford just signed a left back for £3.6m and paid the same for Dennis in the summer. So perhaps we should just be hiring somebody who is better at recruitment?

Shocked I tell you. MP's being threatened by the Whips.😀 Anyone would think this hasn't been standard prectice for the last three hundred years.

That's 30 seconds posting time though! Why be right and reliable when you can post something 'funny'. Aside from this, just on the general feeling on the thread, did you lot learn nothing from literally 5 days ago? The 'written-off, not good enough, loan him out' Adam Idah putting in a MOTM performance? Krul is a massive loss for us, sure. But how about supporters have a crack at SUPPORTING Gunn before slating him for a game he hasn't played yet? Doesn't fit a lot of agenda's on this forum I know.

@cambridgeshire canary posting stupid clown pictures is probably what's being referred to. That's a bit childish, insulting and disrespectful. But because its Cambridge I kind of give him a free pass on it. 😄

I think Barden showed he is the future NCFC number one and hopefully he will have a speedy recovery as I was comfortable with him deputising for Krul. For the Watford game I would like to see McGovern play.

That was the original plan when Pukki arrived, playing off Rhodes in a flexible role, pulling defenders out of position. He started scoring goals though and evolved into the lone striker role which worked well in the Championship, but less well in the PL. With Idah, the roles are more flexible but effective all the same.

The lowest Fifa ranked team ever to qualify for the AFCON finals, have just qualified for knockout stages by beating Tunisia 1 nil with a screamer in 93rd minute.. They have 7 points , not quite winning the group but what an achievement for a nation of under 2- million.

Personally im not jealous of them at all, im too old for all that mullarky. I just find them very self indulgent, talentless and frankly a waste of my time. I dont find anything they say insightful or enlightening in any way. But each to their own. Could be an age / platform thing I guess?

It really doesn't show a lack of ambition, It shows the board aren't going to throw good money after bad. It would be highly unlikely that two new signings will come in, have an instant impact and keep us up. The most likely way we get out of this is by the players who have been with the squad adapting to the premier league and therefore performing better. The good thing is they have begun to last week.

This isn't Football Manager, transfers don't just happen. Webber has been trying to find that 7m player all summer, its even harder now. January is a much quieter window and we are almost nailed on for relegation where as in the summer that was undecided. We know from experience that most foreign signings take half a season to adjust so we might not get too much for our money this season anyway. We are starting to see better from Sargent, Rashica and Lees-Melou as they adjust. If Normann is close to a return then we have that player already.

That "we've scored a bloody away goal" video was one of the best six-yard-box stramashes I've seen in a long time.

It’s never as easy as buying a CDM just like that. It’s a case of seeing who’s out there, who’s willing to come into a relegation battle, who we can afford both in fee and wages, who (in all respect to our club) will most likely be willing to play in the championship next season, and where we can free up space in the squad by selling someone first. I’m fairly certain we’d be looking to bring someone on board but there’s so many moving parts that if one breaks down then they’re all log jammed. The Smith sound bites seem to me that he feels the squad was overhauled with too many bodies coming in during summer. Of which we’ve all done to death the effectiveness of such and such. I feel a bit of sympathy for Smith because his current wants are hampered by history and a squad he didn’t assemble. I completely agree with you though, we need maybe 2 solid hands in the centre but I doubt it will happen.

Churchill wrote those words for an American audience in 1930. After WW2 he wrote the 'United States of Europe' speech. Maybe the experience changed his mind.

You can sleep easy, BJ has said he has categorically seen no evidence for any of these claims. ( he also muttered that he was going to ask Sue to let him know if he had seen any evidence and had just forgotten, and if that was the case he was very sorry, but nobody told him they were evidence ).

Whenever I have played Football, I do believe you have to play against 11 players, not just score against some bloke at the back stood between 2 posts with gloves on. And whenever I have played as Goalkeeper, I had 10 blokes in front of me helping to defend the posts and net I was stood in front of. Hopefully tomorrow the team in front of Angus perform better, particularly now we have more available to select from. Good Luck Young Gunn OTBC

We know there is a decent keeper in there from his year with us in the Championship. He barely put a foot wrong that season and actually only conceded 3 more goals that Krul the following season despite facing more shots. I know a few people on here have adopted a revisionist version of that season saying he wasn't all that, but that's nonsense. I think he was voted 2nd or 3rd in the POTS awards. For sure, it's gone a bit awry for him since but if we can help him recapture that form, starting tomorrow evening, he could become an asset both as a Krul deputy and in the future.

I don’t think it’s fair to blame any of those goals on Gunn. He was good enough to get on the books at Man, another premier league club with Southampton and also England u16, 17, 19, 20 and 21. Keepers undoubtedly play better with a run of games and feeling confident…. So let’s get behind this son of a Norwich legend. We’ve got Angus!!!

This has Along Come Norwich written all over it. Classic beat Everton, play well, need to win the next one, Watford have a few of their decent players at Afcon… no better time to play them right?! Plus we never beat them. The only potential saving grace is our ability to get managers sacked so that could be a reverse Along Come Norwich… Im overthinking this and need a sit down.

You see that rubbish PinkUn poster? The one who posts random nonsense on threads? The one everyone else tolerates but ignores? That’s you that is. 😉 (Make your own guesses who I was thinking of, but I’m too much of a gentlemen to say)

Rob Newman was at Man City for some time, very highly sought after, out of our league I am afraid to say.

No, it doesn't - Sue is just a delaying tactic and everybody knows it but is playing along because........... actually why not? Johnson is playing for time because he literally doesn't have anything else and as far as the opposition is concerned, Labour especially, why not let the Tories carry on digging an ever deeper hole for themselves. Everyone knows that Johnson is guilty as charged and the sight of one Tory minister after another tying themselves in knots trying to defend the indefensible is spreading the damage around the whole Tory party..........long may it continue as far as I'm concerned 😊

I agree with @Tetteys Jig that the measures taken were very appropriate and, as the data from other countries has shown, pretty much absolutely correct. But I do also have a great deal of sympathy for the SA scientists. They did the right work, analysed things correctly and then were pretty much ignored as if they were of a lower stature than European/US scientists - I would have been bloody annoyed too.

Watford have made a few signings. None that make me jealous. We need a DM as good as Normann or Skipp but on a budget. Finding that player and seeing it through to purchase is no way as easy as made out.
  39. 1 point
If it really were that simple (winning is more valuable than failing) then you should rush out & buy £10,000 worth of lottery tickets, because winning £5,000,000 is the "potential windfall"! I have no idea of how much your plan would cost, but as 40-50% of next season's parachute money is *already* committed to repaying a loan then there really isn't anything left to spend.

The more rule's put in place the more clever ways people get round them. Officially they are 2 separate entities. Yes they move players between them but I guess we would do the same if Delia's long lost sister happened to be the president of Barcelona.
  42. 1 point
The reason Watford just signed a left back is that they are getting rid of the one that they signed in the summer because he's fat, slow and sh*t.

Also, when it comes to player transfers. Yes avoiding debt or structure payments is worth totally avoiding unless we are sure we can pay it AND our wage bill if we aren't promoted in the next two years. We can't sell corners to hotels, gaurantee promotion or assume we will have a James Madison on our books every time.

Churchill is still a figure of hate in Poland https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/yalta-was-a-carve-up-and-the-poles-are-understandably-still-bitter-about-it On VE day he wrote to 15,000 Poles telling them to go home. Luckily for me at least one of them said no.

I have little secret to tell. Years ago (pre Covid) not too long after the referendum I recall being in a German board room (near Munich) and later a Japanese one and the question would inevitably come up as to how on earth the pragmatic well respected Brits voted for Brexit. Nobody could understand it as it seemed so damaging economically and politically in terms of global influence. I would open my phone and show them a few of the above 'comments' (yes on this and other boards I used to comment from the strangest parts of the world). They would laugh but then understand our issues. Brexit had It seemed destroyed in an instance any notion of the UK being 'special' in their eyes. Our long history that many respected for honesty and straight talking had been trashed. To balance things I recall being in Osaka with my Americans when Trump got elected. Total shock & embarrassment.
