I'm bracing myself but... Why do we want trybull gone so much? Seems like the majority of fans want rid. My view is he can do a decent job in championship and a squad player for a premier League season (be that cup games or as a third choice backup) He runs his heart out. Admittedly he isn't the most physically present, however he has the tenacity of a little jack Russel in midfield, a little bit like Scott Parker was. I'll concede obv Parker was a cut above. Trybull is ok at passing and ok shooting. I'd prefer in the role sitting Infront of defence than I would McLean there.

I hope you realise no club in the world was going to spend £40 million on Maddison who'd only proven himself at Championship level. He was, if I remember rightly, the most expensive player not to have played in the top flight.

And that costs money. Having a Category One academy and having the necessary scouting network in the UK and abroad do not come cheap. If you look at TWTD you will find Ipswich fans, through gritted teeth, praising the way the club is run, not just compared with their club, which would be an easy contrast to make, but as an absolute. I also looked at one of the Sunderalnd forums to see what they said about Bali Mumba and why he had joined us, and there was the same envious appreciation.

Oh right. Sorry I brought it up, I've embarrassed myself here. Moreover @Bill I was just stating that Roofe has moved to someone I thought we would equal and I stated my opinion on how he would tick a lot of boxes for us, ie. Affordable, proven championship, not over the hill, fits into a passing game and can play the lone striker role. He may also have felt it would be a good chance to get into the premier League and have a crack himself. I think last time he was in the champ he pushed pukki for the golden boot, so he may feel with the age difference on his side and his pace, that he could push pukki off top spot. But yes, I realise that he clearly wasn't a target the club looked at, and has gone. So sorry @Bill for posting this topic on this forum. For future reference, where may I post it? Be kind, it's pre watershed.

Exactly this. And if we cling on to our best players, there no path for progression, so we should see a few sales as necessary. Of course, we need to get a fair price and have good potential replacements, but things look positive from what we can see in that area.
  6. 4 points
We only have those valuable players in the first place due to the people and policies put in place by the board. Or do you think they just magically happen? How many clubs right now desperately wish they had one player to sell for £20m, let alone five?! We already have exciting, highly rated replacements and the incoming funds will enable us to push our recruitment level up significantly (particularly with Covid).
  7. 3 points
What a miserable outlook. Our board don't deserve the negativity and haven't detailed potential sales, thats come from the press. Exactly when have you ever heard the club say 'We don't need to sell'? I can't recall that... have heard them say 'We need to sell' plenty of times! The fact that we don't need to sell should be applauded that we are in such a position. If we are trying to inflate the price, again, surely that should be applauded as they are always criticised for selling too cheap but don't let that get in the way of your negatives. They clear can't win with some people. Note there is no congratulations that the clubs policies have enabled us to talk about £100m worth of talent.... of course why let some positives get in your way. So Webber and Farke have already said they don't want to sell our best players.... imagine Farke's thoughts if (after all this lack of support last time) he is faced with losing all of these players.... excepting for press speculation neither the players or the club have said that anyone wants to leave or is leaving.... Why do you believe the press instead of our club? The board have been more transparent with the fans than for many years. it's the best way to run a club, to bring everyone together although Covid has got in the way but that's not the clubs fault. This is the cruncher... this is where you go quietlyoff to another thread...... So what exactly have they done in say the past 3 years to deserve your allegation of misdirection, lies and spin? you've written just over 4 lines in the final paragraph all negative and baseless........ or is it, come on lets hear what evidence you have for this rubbish..... For the record, not expecting an articulated reply to this.... reckon you couldn't evidence one.

We were in the Championship at the time and they moved to Premier League clubs. I really don't know why we hold a grudge against young men who are only trying to further their careers.

Is your friend not the biological parent then?

The main issue with bringing in someone like Roofe, who’d only come if told he’s going to get a good amount of game time, is that any minutes he gets will be at the expense of Idah. If Norwich believe Idah is good enough then he has to play. Developing a young striker and giving him game time is far harder then doing so with a full back, which tend to be less pressurised positions. There is a tough decision to be made at Norwich. It seems certain that Drmic will leave, Norwich will need three strikers next season but whether Idah is second or third choice is the big question.

Actually @Bill, apologies there for my sarccy post above, I've gone well over the top there! Got my knickers right in a twist. I am sorry Chap.

@Van wink edit: and @sonyc - As above, France have doubled tests between mid June and end of July. Haven’t looked elsewhere (but have got a few days off next week so might look into it when bored !! )

Yep thats about half a years wages for Arsenals upper earners. Pretty shameful really, there must have been other avenues to explore IF those guys n gals meant anything to the club. A pound to a pinch of shoite when extra people are needed itll be temps on zero hours contracts. There is so much to dislike about the beautiful game right now. In fact , beauty fades......

We have heard this before from the club. The problem is we always do. And I'm convinced we will, and we won't get anywhere near those figures. The "don't need to sell" trick is just that. Its a way of us trying to inflate teams offers. We're literally trying to say make us an offer we can refuse. Inevitably someone always does becaue when it comes to it we waver and cant resist. I believe every one on that list could go before the season kicks off and all will be gone by the close of the mid season transfer window. I'm sorry but I have no trust in the board. Misdrection, lies and spin. It's what we get. Like the plan / project. Its just mañana mañana. Always promising something that is just enough to keep the status quo. But alway in the far distant future which will be scrapped, changed and debunked when we change personal. Come a new director of sport and manger come another list of ecxuses and spin as to why the plan has changed and why we've ended up with what we have. Which is alway very little if no progression.

This looks fairly static to me. The next few days should tell us if there is really any lift off.
  16. 2 points
We need players who can step up, players who can get us promoted and perform in the prem. Not players who if we go up need replacing again. Trybull is one of those for sure.

5 years at a conservative 40K a week is over £8 million. If his career ended the day after those 5 years and he never played again, i suspect he'd be able to struggle through to retirement significantly more comfortably than any of us will.
  18. 2 points
It's not going to be 10m though is it? Just because the tabloid rags are throwing a ridiculous figure out there, that's clearly not what the final price will be, assuming this deal has legs. Liverpool's people are throwing that value about, Webber is talking 20-25m to start; in reality the negotiations will begin and they'll meet somewhere in the middle - At a guess something like 14-15m plus Larouci who's probably worth about 5m and then some pretty hefty clauses based on future appearances and sell-on value. While I like Lewis a lot and would love to see him stay here, that would represent a decent deal and you can't really begrudge a young player moving to the champions in the same way as if he was being linked with say West Brom or Palace who aren't such a huge step up from where we are now.

I suspect an analysis of the financial statements of relegated clubs would reveal that parachute payments in no way cover the scale of losses on relegation. That when only (say) £20m of external debt leaves the club on the brink of administration is why new investment is needed. This is why Bournemouth, Watford etc are much stronger financially than we are on relegation.
  20. 2 points
Isn't that what the parachute payments do?

Imagine we’d spent that money on signing Fahrmann, Amadou, Roberts and Duda permanently! there would be riots in the streets by now! Have to say proud of the way our club has gone about things. Our way with intelligence, imagination, opportunity and development. Football is about football and not money. Not following the standard practices but thinking for ourselves. OTBC

They are probably more gutted about it than they are Norwich playing Championship football.

Add ons could be interesting here. Homegrown player inflation doesnt seem to be added either. But seems something may be there. It would be a great and perfect move for lewis to learn from the liverpool philosophy. Being back up would still get big exposure in cup competitions and always be in a group who could win silverware. He would have time to acclimatise to the pressure that league winning teams have. He will learn very quickly with high quality coaching and players around him. I believe he put in some very decent performances after the restart, he showed he is up for the fight and showed he can quickly adapt in games. Against watford at the start he struggled and then came into the game a bit. When he first came into the side he looked a fantastic prospect and deserved his spot. He excelled in the championship title season and moving to liverpool would be exceptional for his development. We will see.
  24. 2 points
I can see him going to Liverpool but £10m would be outrageously cheap. Webber is on record saying “we don’t need to sell” and that the starting price for any of our young stars is £20m. Would not look good to go against those comments by selling Lewis cheaply. Liverpool have money, he’s on a long contract, make them shell out properly. They either want him and will pay the going rate, or they won’t and he stays.

Those are exceptional times. Elite club-running territory as a bare minimum if not doing well at regional level. Well done. I'm also naturally a slim sort, but my personal bests at those distances are nowhere near. 1h 43 for the half-marathon and 3h 46 for a full one. Been lucky in this lockdown, I just walked a fair bit and it doesn't seem like I've lost much, but could really use a parkrun to find out.

Interesting discussion now on Newsnight on your exact point @Aggy and talk of the degree of false positives (maybe very small particles in people not showing any symptoms nor infectious) and the dangers of making public policy based on these. 4.6m of us in the north currently affected of course

Lets not discount Vrancic in this equation...if fit ,must surely prominently feature in the championship....whilst a little further forward Steipermann may very well become a force at this level once again As for the likes of Sitti,Gilmour,Mumba even Adshead..they must be here for a reason. If theyre any good ,the Championship is the place to have a look?

Sounds like it’s various different muscles? I was going to say if it’s one all the time then it could be running style or just a specific weakness/tightness. If it’s multiple different muscles, this might sound like I’m taking the p155 but not, do you properly warm up? I’ve found that a five or ten minute warm up (usually just a very brisk walk, some jumping on the spot, building up to a light jog etc.) and a proper stretch makes a lot of difference nowadays - where ten years ago I just got straight into it and was fine the next day as well....

You are thick. They have tested more than us for instance (big surprise that Boris isn't capable) but that isn't how you compare. But per head of population, not cases, their rate is nowhere near the best. Trump made himself look pathetic during an interview by saying what you have published. Don't you keep up with the news? Out of 150 countries the US is 141st. We are worse but thats because of your scum sucking mate Boris.

Klopp is No Mug if he is after Lewis that is because he sees him as a good player Some Managers / Head coaches see different players playing in Different positions it would not Surprise me to see Robertson pushed a little higher up in some games or if needed Also it might be the other way round he might see Lewis as a Left midfielder ?? Lewis will become a better player under klopp

I'm gutted at this news - Drmic was the perfect player to test the Pinkun swear filter with. We need new scapegoats to come in - Kenny can't carry the can on his own.

Judging by our results in the PL this season, this argument is true for the whole team. I liked Trybull and thought he worked well with Tettey, not so well with McLean but they are similar players in that regard.

USA has the lowest Case Fatality Ratio in the world, lower even than Europe. The US currently has a CFR of 0.033 – which is lower than the world as a whole (0.037) and lower than in the larger European countries. Britain’s CFR is currently 0.15, Italy’s 0.14 and Germany’s 0.043 To date, it has carried out 184,000 tests per 1 million population – twice as many as has Germany, a country which was widely praised for its testing programme in the early stages of the epidemic. When it comes to Corona, the US is the biggest success story.

Agreed. @NeymarSmith needs to learn the way of the Pinkun (double down, use lots of CAPITALS, then completely disappear when proven wrong).

I have a different take. The two main issues as i see them being (a) not protecting the vulnerable, especially in care homes, correctly and (b) not putting more resources into track and trace immediately (ie jan-feb) as this is where Germany's relative success stemmed from. I could be persuaded on PPE but I would need to see evidence that a deficiency caused disproportionate infection in a hospital environment and I am not sure that this exists. I speak in aggregate terms, each individual case, of course, being a disaster to the individual. Lockdown is the bluntest of instruments. Doing it earlier will probably have saved lives overall but if we had sorted out (a) and (b) it should not have been necessary. We can see some evidence for this in figures throughout Europe where lockdowns have eased but deaths have stayed suppressed or in Sweden.

Perhaps they could run to having a 'sandwich board man' Delia out on one side and eat at Yellows on the other

The thought was that as testing would not pick up those who were in the early stages, it was not cost effective. However I think that was a retrospective take on it, as it was part of the then lackadaisical approach being taken. Check out why the fat fraud allowed the Cheltenham Festival to go ahead, why he took 12 days off i that crucial period in Feb, why he failed to attend 5 vital COBRA meetings. Not interested When other countries were taking this very serious, implementing procedures put in place previously Fatso was spouting sh yte at some hos[ital photo op where he bragged about shaking hands with corona virus patients the airport scandal' was simply one part of a wider dereliction of duty - and it's been a shambles ever since

A remarkable turnaround from the days of Hughton when the mantra was that the fans didn't care about the result, they just wanted to see good, attacking football. And you are right, scoring more goals than the opposition did paper over those gaping chasms. It amazes me, really it does. We've gone from the best team ever to be relegated to the worst side since christendom and not content with basing our season review purely on post-lockdown performances (admittedly, largely poor) we also seek to devalue what was (arguably) the most exciting season of football I've seen us play as lucky and papering over cracks. To be honest, you guys are probably right as I seem to be firmly in the minority but God, isn't it depressing. Think I'll jack it in.

I'm not talking about that, i'm talking about so called "fans" saying they would no longer support our club or watch football if we were bought by a mega rich Saudi backed consortium. I support the football club not the owners. Somewhere along the line at Norwich it seems the two have become unhealthily blurred.

The sun is still out. I've got news for you Vinny and you other miserabilists - the sun is still shining. New exciting young players coming in - the latest one stating what a brilliant club this is to come to - and things to look forward to. A new challenge, a further development and improvement of what we are trying to do as a club on and off the field and if we get up again to the PL then we will be better equipped to stay there. I know I might as well be talking to a brick wall than trying to get through to the likes of you, Vinny, but your "I told you so" is about as limp as it can get. 🌞
