Ah, but it can't be used as "emergency toilet paper" as it has excrement on both sides already.

The Daily Mail should be boycotted at all newsagents in Norwich just like The Sun in Liverpool.
  3. 10 points
We are lacking direction. The problem started when Webber fired Farke instead of firing himself.

And who cares what the daily mail thinks? Just like the Sun it's better for being emergency toliet paper than a news outlet

He's our second top scorer, despite being predominantly a bench player. He has certainly visibly improved even from the start of this season thanks to game time. He has 6 goals from an xG of 5.83 - yes he has missed some easier chances but he's taken some more difficult one's, too. I do think in reality it's better if he goes, fans have been unduly harsh towards him as sometimes happens with our young players. It's normally reserved for wingers but Idah's had the treatment all season. Of course, there was temporary respite when his goals from the bench sort of shoved it back in the idiot's faces but as soon as he doesn't score in a couple of appearances the stick starts again. I can understand him wanting to go too. I don't understand our fans wanting him to go now though, significantly weakening us.

I genuinely believe we would live to regret letting Idah go here. He is a 22 year old with a very respectable minutes to goal ratio in the Championship. He would be a starting striker for most teams in the league minus 5 or 6 teams. And just for a bit of perspective at his age... Ivan Toney had just signed for Peterborough after scoring 12 goals in League One the previous season. Teemu Pukki had just signed for Celtic ready for a disastrous spell there. Ian Wright had signed from non-league by Palace a season before... Judge strikers early at your peril.

Why is it a joke? You've highlighted his WORST run during his time as a Norwich manager as a reason for sacking him, yet vehmently defended a manager with an identical record of 2 points out of 30, despite almost a third of those points being from Championship fixtures. Were you a joke in moaning (putting it lightly) about people wanting him sacked then? After all, by your own standards he should have been sacked after the Hull game. The fact of the matter is, Farke is our last successful manager. He was sacked on the back on an away victory in the EPL. Given what happened to the club since his departure, Norwich fans will continue to look back ruefully on that decision until such a time that we finally have another successful manager. Fans need the whole, "well, if we hadn't sacked Farke we'd never have got X, Y or Z". At the moment, we have "if we hadn't sacked Farke, we might not be in this mess". And that's entirely true. We might not be. We might be in an even bigger mess as well. But you can only deal with what you know, and what we know is that nothing good has happened with this club since Farke was unceremoniously dumped out of the club after a match that saw him revert back to his previously-favoured 4-2-3-1 and gain three precious points. You're just going to have to put up with it. Similar to how we had to put up with the absolute joke that was people defending Dean Smith.

It is hardly the Daily Mail speaking as the Daily Mail. It is just one reporter. And the odd thing is we used to be criticised in the national press for yo-yoing. Now the complaint is that we have stopped doing that! That said, it is definitely arguable we did lose direction, but the arrival of Attanasio and Knapper is precisely intended to restore direction.

Been following Lamar Reynolds' career closely, have we? Or just saw him score one great goal against the binners and think that makes him better than Adam Idah? For the record, Reynolds has played 19 times in the sixth tier of English football this season, and has scored zero goals. Honestly, City1st, that's one of the most laughable things I've ever read on this board.

Would you believe LYB that there are people who think he shouldn't have been sacked?!

I think we can all agree on one thing, regardless of your thoughts on our owners - and that’s that the Daily Mail is miles miles worse.

"showing no signs of a promotion push" - er, until the defeat against Leeds, points gathered against Southampton, Ipswich and West Brom seemed pretty indicative of a team that was getting up towards the play-offs.

Jeez. Not paying the inflated release clause price is “classic Nodge”? I can just imagine the reaction if we did pay it and he had a poor first game. “We overpaid for a crap player. Classic Nodge”

“Inept” doesn’t beat one team above us, draw with two and push a third reasonably close in the last few weeks. Farke’s last game I saw at Anfield, we lost by three goals, same for Wagner yesterday. Was Farke inept too? I don’t believe he’s right for us next season, some of his decisions are highly questionable, but calling him inept makes your argument look emotional, not rational.
  24. 3 points
Yes they damned well should when it's 2 points out of 30. It was absolutely dire and a large part of the reason it was dire because Farke's approach was completely wrong to have any chance of getting any results with the players at his disposal at that level. A bad workman blames his tools.

Has anyone here seen “flag man” in the south stand? he goes to every home game and at the end stands at the touchline with a flag trying to get a shirt. Thing is though, he’s got a backpack full of flags. USA flag not working on Josh? No problem! In the bag he goes and gets an Irish flag, try and get Idahs shirt. I really can’t feel anything but cringe for the “can i Have your shirt” brigade. It’s half and half scarf territory.
  29. 3 points
The reason Wagner was looking so pissed off during the game was because the fourth official explained that he wasn't allowed to bring on another keeper without taking the first one off. He had hoped to play all three.
  30. 3 points
I'm mixed on this. In part I don't think he did anywhere near enough during Sargent's injury to retain his starting berth over Josh. So if he's throwing his toys out of the pram due to that then I think he needs to look closer to home. On the other hand it must be frustrating to see Barnes starting week in week out over him and I do agree with others that we haven't managed his development well. It would be pretty crap if we lose Idah and Aboh these next few months because we've decided to prioritise game time for a 34 year old journeyman.

Not the humiliation that the whiners had predicted. Ironically it was that lot down the road who suffered the weekend's (seasons) humiliation. Ironic given that many of the whiners are binners hoping we are fooled by their non binner names. I expect it was an enjoyable day out for the 4,000 or so who travelled up to Anfield. It will be an enjoyable day for the club's finance director when the payments for the day come in. But that enjoyment will be tempered by the knowledge that Liverpool had a turn over of £594m season 21/22. I wonder what our turnover be after the parachute payments end. Less that 10% of that, yet the whiners some how we should be able to match the tram they can put out,. And despite us having both our best two strikers missing we still managed two goals, one being the goal of the match - in front of our fans. Another emerging 'star' - Sainz, perhaps. So it is on with the playoffs. Coventry upcoming, and we look more than capable of getting a win. Good news for our supporters, and bad news for the whiners Safe journey back fellow canaries - hope it was fun.

So much carp on this (& other) threads. Where are Liverpool in the PL? Oh yes. Top. That's right 5 points clear in the hardest league in the world. The world. I wonder why that is? Maybe because they have many of the best players, & are coached by someone at the top of his profession? Their players are all dynamic, athletic, strong, motivated, skilful, ruthless? Perhaps that's got something to do with why they're doing so well Now we just haven't got those sorts of players - one or two might have some (but not all) of those qualities, but we are, literally, not in the same league. Given all that, what were we supposed to do? A series of dazzling long passes which would have split them apart & set up our devastating attack?? I suggest that would have soon degenerated into lumping it up the field only to watch it come hurtling back with interest. Do you really think such tactics would have served us any better? What we tried was to play football. Get some possession going, try & pull them about a bit, rely on some flashes of individual skill & maybe nick a goal. Always involved a lot of risk & never realistically going to work, but looked better than the alternatives & was, I believe, ultimately more productive. The reason it was pretty hopeless was because they swarmed us, the energy & intensity of their press meant we had no time to react, let alone think what to do. Then once they got the ball back they were like a pack of whippets. Quick, quick, quick. Their goals were, nevertheless, disappointing, the zero marking for the first goal, Kenny's rushing out to try & intercept a pass that didn't happen (he'd got others right so I forgive him), Van Dijk's free header, can't remember the other 2, but they created many chances that few teams would have been able to stop. They are simply very, very good. Could we have done any better with the players available? Probably. A bit. Would it have made any difference?? Well ... And Sainz did score the goal of the match!!! And so to Coventry ...

Yep, that's accurate. There was another similar thread about a week ago, saying (and I paraphrase) 'only 11 days left in the window and absolutely nothing has happened'. I said I'd reserve judgement until the end of the window, as 11 days isn't long to wait. I'm still saying I'll reserve judgement until the end of the window, and now there are only three days to wait. If nothing happens from here (or, worse, we let Idah go and don't replace him), I'll be bitterly disappointed based on the aforementioned 'exciting plans' comment. But let's just wait until deadline day has been and gone before we start the wailing and gnashing of teeth, eh?

I went there knowing it was only half an hour down the road for me, but knowing that I was going to watch our team lose. We were never going to beat them, well maybe one time in 1,000, but practically never. I reckoned we’d be 3/4-1 down at the end. Some of their goals were very soft - their first one in particular. Our defending could have been better, but their placement and play and passing accuracy was obscene. Their one touch football exposed us in the same way that they expose many premier league sides even. We have a back 4 that are realistically a bit average in the Championship, and would be utterly lost in the Prem, so for us to keep it down to 4, with a 95th minute surprise (always the way for us against Liverpool), is an achievement. For us to score twice, and have the ball in the back of the net a third time, when we’re without both Rowe and Sargeant was fab. Sainz’s goal was exceptional, and Becker is their 1st team goalkeeper, not the reserve one we put out. I was there in the Sutton glory days, I watched the Munich match (albeit on telly), so I’ve seen how great we can be. But I’ve also seen the Colchester match. I know how crap we can be. I’ve also seen what being out of the Prem on a regular basis for 28 years has done to us in terms of the gap between us and regular premier league football. Sure, we’ve had 6 seasons of Prem football in those 28 years, but the Hughton appointment cost us that particular dream. The gap between us and Liverpool is HUGE, but we made it look a little bit smaller than it should yesterday, possibly quite a bit.

I’ll be sure to mention to Alison, Van Dijk, Konate, Nunez, Gakpo, Gomez, TAA, Szoboszlai, Luis Diaz et al that they’re second string… They had 4 kids in their lineup, all of which would comfortably be regular first team for us based on their performance yesterday. I’m not a happy clapper, but I have no idea what game you were watching because it sure as hell was not the one in front of me. Yes, we played most of the game in our own half, but we weren’t overwhelmed apart from a few notable Liverpool breaks where their one touch football was sublime, and we had no counter to that. But that was always going to be the case. There isn’t a team in the championship that can play that sort of football, and I expect that most would be struggling against it. I’ll tell you something. Apart from Huddersfield, that’s the best I’ve seen us play this year. I’m proud. And the Liverpool fans I spoke to after the game told me I had every reason to be.

In football you either go forwards or backwards. Nothing ever remains the same. So you can look back ten games, twenty games, a season and postulate all sorts of reasons to back your arguments, but the best indicator for a manager's performance is the form table - like the most recent 5 or 6 games. Yes, the decision to get rid of Farke was done before Brentford, but it could have been reversed on the strength of that win and the fact players were still playing for him. In that season, you can look at the fixture list, you can look at the circumstances of the covid disrupted pre-season, you can look at the late arrivals of Kabak and Normann, you can look at the ridiculous nonsense surrounding Gilmour and Cantwell, you can look at injuries, you can look at Sargent and Tzolis being nowhere near ready for the PL - and in combination, there is strong evidence to show it is no surprise we were struggling...... .....yet even then Farke still had the players playing for him and got 5 points in 5 games, with an encouraging win, away from home. That decision could have been reversed....but something tells me that Webber had a plan that he was going to stick to - and that plan backfired and he ended up with Smith as the only viable option. That plan might even have been Smith himself, knowing on the football grapevine he was going to become available....whatever, that went well, didn't it....... We can argue until the cows come home, but the reality is Farke was a great fit for our club - and in saying that I am using the lack of resources and recruitment as the main issue for us not being able to compete in the PL, not Farke himself. Would it have become too toxic for him? Maybe, maybe not, we'll never know, but that win at Brentford was a great boost at a difficult time and I'll never forget the shock of that sacking - a huge high of a win against all the odds, followed by that huge shock, was hard to deal with. The Daily Fail can talk about yo yo's, well for once they are right - that yo yo, at the moment, has got stuck - and the reason for that stuckness is the folly of getting rid of a superb manager at Championship level firstly for a weak manager and then to where we are now, with people who haven't perhaps seen much of us since the Farke days, looking in on us and seeing we have lost our way a bit.....something us fans have been seeing for the last two seasons.

I think idahs problem has been he's a bit too good. He was good enough to be trusted as a backup so we have been reluctant to let him out on loan as signing an alternative backup is expensive and difficult, but needed some consistent game time to fully develop, which he would only get if we loaned him out. If he was a bit worse he would have been loaned out years ago...

FFS, it was a young kid asking Sainz for his shirt. Sainz said he couldn't give it to him there and then, but told them to wait at the player's entrance for when the players boarded their coach. Head shaking emoji.

Not just a loan offer, but a loan to buy offer. And Idah wants to leave. For me, this changes everything; I think if the offer was a reasonable one, I'd let him go. I'm a big disciple of the Guardiola "if he doesn't want to be here let him go" philosophy.
