Good news. Been one of our better midfielders this season and I'm not shocked that those who are experienced in football within the club seem to think so too.

Sensible decision to keep Kenny. I'm quite pleased actually. It's up to other players to prove they are better, they haven't done consistently so far. Doesn't mean Rangers will drop their interest but it will require a meaningful transfer fee.

Always gives 100% does Kenny. Underated by many fans but not by the managers. Im happy for him.👍

I’m perfectly happy about this, and think that he gets a lot of unnecessary criticism. No, he’s not PL quality but he’s fine in the Championship

England '82 kit, with that hair... Absolute banger!

Didn’t think he deserved all the criticism he got last season. He was still a teenager when we signed him and is contracted until 2026, so there’s plenty of time for him to develop. Would like to see him get a few games for us in the Championship as it might help develop him - if we manage to get promoted this season Sargent’s already starting to look like he might turn out a completely different player next season to what he was like last season

Watching England is like watching Norwich, especially when trying to play through the press.

New contract until 2025. McLean signs new contract until 2025 - Norwich City (canaries.co.uk)

Can't wait to see how he feels now he's lost to Iran. Wonder if he cares? After all he is just like many Wales players born in England, speaks with an English accent, has only ever lived in England, plays his football in England.. Should I go on?

https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-63728503 Sad news as ever. A terrific guitarist and interesting character. Saw him twice in Bradford but also had the honour of playing in a support band for his Solid Sender's back in the mid 80s. Lucky for me I could sit actually at the side of the stage and watch from about 8 ft away! I was amazed by the guitar action he used (not tight to the frets at all) and later thought that he wanted a staccato style of playing so this helped him. He scared me a bit too as he was quite an odd fellow and quiet / quirky / east enderly but watched a couple of documentaries later and I was really moved by his cancer episode. What a life he lived.

I think by general consensus most players were poor. At the start of the season I thought he looked bright and against arsenal away I thought he was one of the better players, only to be dropped for seemingly no reason. Easy to understand why a young lad would lose confidence after such things. The pen miss against Liverpool did not help matters either. I hope he comes good would love him to have a bright future here.

Out of interest, why would any Norwich fan dislike Leicester more than Ipswich? Are you actually just a Coventry fan who followed Huckerby and Maddison to our club? I’m not bothered if we meet them as we would batter them, they only want to meet us because thatd suggest they’re in a higher league than they’ve been close to for bloody ages. And just to get this back to Kenny, Ipswich would literally cry with joy to have him there, he would be like Kante at that level and I think he is pretty average, so that shows you the standard I view league 1 to be.

Switch any one of the 31 other managers at the World Cup with Southgate and you instantly improve this team. He's the worst there. Negative, clueless, rubbish. I don't think I'd swap Smith for him.

Yes. We have another winner. CSF prize for Wacky so congratulations to him. We also have another shirt number 23 with Rezaeian of Iran, so that's Australia, Belgium and Iran at the top of the leaderboard. With all this extra time maybe be we should have had latest goal!

Only due to Irans finishing. Nothing to do with Wales. Englands 6-2 win looking better by the minute watching this.

I too had the misfortune of being there for those. I think in the 5-0 game, a chant of "Mariner's a wànker" was sung by us for about 15 minutes or so, and as luck should have it he then scored, walked up to us and flashed us his còck. Weird ....

The utter failure and calamity that is Brexit is no better illustrated than by this story: Rishi Sunak news - live: PM mulls limiting foreign students amid backlash over migration jump https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/rishi-sunak-news-live-pm-mulls-limiting-foreign-students-amid-backlash-over-migration-jump/ar-AA14wSyQ Sadly, it's a simple truth that for many of those that voted for Brexit it was the prospect of keeping "bloody foreigners" from our shores that swayed their vote. Some of them may even have been happy to accept the massive hit to the economy Brexit has caused if it meant we kept those "invaders" out of the country. Thus, it must come as a shock that Brexit appears to have had precisely the opposite effect and will continue to do so. The pi*ss-poor trade deal with Australia provides a good example of why this is inevitable. Not only did it require us to open our market to imports of sub-standard food, threatening the future of UK farming, but also required our agreement to increased immigration rights for Australian people. Modi has already made clear that any trade deal with India will be entirely conditional upon a massive increase in the rights of Indian people to migrate to the UK. The simple truth is that the self-imposed isolation from a powerful trading bloc (the single market) has left the UK in a devastatingly weak negotiating position and unable to resist acquiescence to such demands. Thus, we find Sunak desperately flailing around for some artificial way to reduce the (post-Brexit) record levels of immigration. It seems all he can think of is a suicidal plan to limit the numbers of foreign students. Anyone familiar with the university sector will know full well that it is the very high fees paid by foreign students that keep many universities financially viable. So, either home students will have to pay massively increased fees, or a number of universities will simply go bust (many are already seriously in debt and will be tipped into administration by a ban on foreign student income). So far Brexit has been nothing more than a series of self-harming slashes to the vital arteries of the nation's livelihood: fishing, farming, exports, SMEs, etc. have all suffered from dreadful blows. It seems universities are to be added to that list in a pathetic attempt by Sunak to disguise Brexit's failure to deliver on the main promise to its supporters.

Nurses announce first 2 day strikes for pay and to improve working conditions. I hope you can read beyond the government’s headline of how lives are being put at risk. Those two days I am sure will be allocated ‘ days off ‘ and will only be noticeable as a high % of nurses currently have to work 24/7 ( lots of them 12 hour shifts ) due to under staffing. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-63746334

Trouble is how many of the 504,000 are genuinely ready to contribute to the economy and how many will take years of acclimatisation into the UK before contributing? We lost thousands of workers from the EU who genuinely made our lives better with their hard work. We blocked these workers and opened the door for others. So much for controlling the boarders, more like shutting the EU door with massive benefits to our country and opening a chance door which has cost us billions if not trillions! Boris should be hung drawn and quartered for what he’s done to these great countries of the UK.

Working it out, I have been eight times to watch us play them at Portman Road. And seen them win three times I think. Left Norfolk in 1974 so thats the last time. I also used to go to Ipswich when they were in the first division in the late 60s to watch them hopefully get beaten by teams I never believed I would ever see at Carrow Road in a league match. Used to stop at Thwaite for a couple of pints on the way.

Right, I've been through all of the suggestions and I'm ready to make my picks. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. On the whole I've picked ones where more than one person has said the same thing, except for France v Denmark, because France didn't score at their last meeting and I think they're a bit shot with injuries. There were a couple of others where there was only one nomination but I just quite liked the suggestion so I included them. £2 on King's Lynn v Stevenage (thanks to Sony C, Diane, PurpleCanary, and Til 1010) £1 each on: Portsmouth v MK Dons (NFN FC, Hector Brockelbank); Stranraer v Annan (Nutty Nigel, DJ11); Spain v Germany (Feedthewolf, Mandie Moo); Shrewsbury v Peterborough (Kathy, theBaldOne66); Cambridge United v Grimsby Town (Mr Angry); Altringham v Eastleigh (Kiwiscot); Notts Count v Barnet (Diesel Doris); Oxford v Exeter (Indy) Thanks again folks for your help.

Wales haven't got a midfield. Bale, Ramsey, Allen etc are not or no longer, good enough.
  41. 1 point
Well, Page is going flat-out with those changes. Not sure that'll work considering the problem is the balance in central midfield being skew-whiff (heck, it's like watching Norwich on occasion but the Wales central midfield is even more out of kilter).

That's like betting on Norwich to lose so you can have something to enjoy no matter what.

I always find the arguments for and against expanding CR to be fascinating because there are valid points on both sides, it's a huge risk with huge potential rewards and the financial landscape is ever changing which makes it's viability change frequently. For me the idea lives or dies on whether you believe we can fill another 6-8'000 seats every home game from as soon as it's completed. If we build the new stand at the right time, say right before a great promotion season like 18/19 and then manage to survive in the PL for 2 years we should get close to filling it week in week out and have it become profitable pretty quickly. If we time it poorly (which is more likely as we have more average and poor seasons historically than good ones) I think right now and in mid table Championship seasons the capacity is right where it needs to be and we won't need any extra seats except for derbys and the occasional big game and it doesn't make financial sense to spend 30m on redevelopment for a few extra 100k's in ticket revenue for the odd game. The argument for bringing new fans in is a good one as well, but it would require either some excellent marketing strategies (combined with good results on the pitch regularly) or a drop in ticket prices which will mean the new stand would take much longer to start becoming profitable. Even though I really don't like this idea I think the stadium won't be expanded and the future will be in increasing revenues through streaming. Eventually clubs will be allowed to live stream all of their games no matter what time or day of the week for a fee and that's how we'll be able to increase match day revenues without having to pay for bricks and mortar and how a lot of newer generations of fans will become supporters and follow the club. It's a shame and it doesn't compare to going to CR to watch a match but that's just the way things are going and if I was in charge of the clubs finances I'd consider it a much safer bet than building a new stand.

With a crowd of around 4,000 ( still a few tickets left ) , will be another great day for the club. A realistic chance of going through to the 3rd Rd and a chance of one of the big clubs, …Liverpool at home, Manchester United away!! Anyone who hasn’t recently been down to the Walks, will be pleasantly surprised with the improvements, especially the playing surface. Still a throwback to football of the past, terracing, free movement and a very working class support base. Recommended

You keep bringing it up mate, for the record I don’t want it to happen, I just don’t trust our absolute state of a manager with it.

I enjoy reading the posts from all you finance wizards. But I come from a different angle where I follow what's said and what happens. Where as you see what could have happened I see what did happen. I have learned much from your finance/accounting input. But I think you could couple that great knowledge with the realities of what happened. There's no doubt that Michael, Delia and their advisors understood much of this. Which is why from Bowkett onwards they searched for new investment and owners. Which is why we finally got Attanasio. None of this just happened and unless successive execs have lied there was no opportunity to do this earlier. None of the realities point to any reluctance on the part of our owners. Except the reluctance to sell to unsuitable people. Such a reluctance can only come from a position of strength. The only real unknown is whether we'd be better placed now if they'd taken more of a chance with the chancers. A quick look at other clubs suggests the odds are against it.

I think @Parma Ham's gone mouldy's point is the club never had the cash required to service the loan required to build the thing. e.g. they had a house, they wanted a new kitchen but the income didn't cover the loan. S&J have become asset rich but, relatively, cash poor through football club price inflation. Pretty common amongst their age group.

I agree. He was signed under Farke's time here and even he couldn't get him into the side ahead of midfielders such as Kenny.
