  1. When teams fail to take advantage of red cards it’s usually when the dismissal is only 20- mins from the end. Considering how early the dismissal was (also forcing them to make an early sub) I really felt we should have taken 3 points. I think it was mainly down to Rashica’s absence though Yes this looks a really poor performance when you compare it to our previous two, but like Ian has said when you compare this 4 match unbeaten run to all our previous games this season I don’t think you can say we’ve been poor recently - 8pts taken from the last available 12, after only 2pts had only been taken from the first available 30 Yes 2pts dropped, but at least we still denied our relegation rivals their first win and clean sheet of the season
  2. I think it was all down to Rashica’s absence. His speed has played a major part in our previous 3 games. However, no team can afford to rely on certain players in case they get injured/suspended/sold. You need everyone in your squad to be scoring goals and playing a key part in every game
  3. Toon. Clark got sent off in 9th min for tugging Pukki back when 1 on 1 with keeper
  4. 2-1 City. I’m pretty convinced we’ll win. Yes we’re both under a lot of pressure at the moment, but the Magpies are still yet to win and without a clean sheet this season and it looks like we may have changed into a completely different team since Smith’s arrival when you look at our performances against the Saints and Wolves. Although we will be without Normann but we still did really well after his departure on Saturday (probably better 2nd half than 1st) and Lascelles and Ritchie picked up their 5th yellows against the Gunners so they will be suspended for this game. Victory would put us 6 points clear of Newcastle and only adrift of safety on GD, victory by a 3 goal margin (which I’m afraid I can’t see happening) would also draw us level on GD with them
  5. Buy themselves out of trouble? Yes they have the money, but how many top players are going to want to be involved in a relegation battle this season when they can earn high wages at clubs like Man City and Chelsea, and can also be pretty confident of also qualifying for the Champions League next season? I'm not very convinced they will be able to strengthen their team much in January if they look likely to be involved in a relegation battle, but if they survive I think they will be able to quite a bit next summer. However, I think they need to at least qualify for the Europa League before they will be able to sign world class players I do believe we can stay up, but to do so I think we have to keep our current performance under Smith on for the rest of the season, rely on teams at the top of the table to do us favours against our relegation rivals, and cannot afford to slip up at any point
  6. An outstanding performance - 14 attempts to their 4. We are now 3 points clear of Newcastle thanks to a favour from the Gunners and only behind Burnley on GD (who host Spurs tomorrow) so victory on Tuesday will bring us 6 points clear of the bottom
  7. Yesterday was the first time Cantwell made a first team appearance for absolutely ages, and when players have out for a long spell you have to give them time to get back to form Jersey and Uncle Fred have got it totally wrong. Cantwell’s poor performance was not deliberate, it was due to lack of game time as he’s stated that he wants to get back to his best soon
  8. Was lovely to see us win, coming from behind as well but for me there’s no verdict on a new manager after just 1 game in charge, even if it is a win
  9. I’m really glad he went out for a Championship loan this season, and it looks like he can cut it at that level as if we get relegated I think we may very well need him next season
  10. But is it really nice to see Watford win? Had the result been the other way round the Hornets would be sitting just 1 point clear of the drop zone. In the first half of the season it’s always best for our result to be victory, and all the other teams to draw
  11. I had huge doubts about Smith being appointed at first because he’d just been sacked by another PL club, but when I read Shakespeare was the coach and that he has huge experience in the PL, I had much more confidence in him. I agree with your opinion on Cantwell, possibly Sorensen, but not sure about Placheta or Idah as I think they’re quite far behind in the pecking order
  12. I actually feel very sorry for him. Very injury prone and last season was the first time we saw much of him. As we still hadn’t seen masses of him in the PL I’ve always had belief in him, and so have never had a verdict on him in the PL. 2 weeks ago we got our first win, changed our manager, and have just won our next game as well, so maybe things are going to change? Listening to the commentary I agree he’s made an error in just about every single game, but I also agree with TVB’s opinion that Kabak has been the bigger liability, as I think he’s made the bigger mistakes
  13. Lol I don’t think the uneasy start helped us either. Farke was great in the Championship, but his style of play and tactics just didn’t work in the PL. Was dubious about Deano when his appointment was first announced as he’d just been sacked by another PL team, but when I read about Shakespeare’s coaching history I felt a lot more confident Would love OGS to still be in charge when we face Manure, but I don’t think he’ll last at Old Trafford for much longer
  14. Before kickoff I saw the result as a 1-1 draw: we’d just achieved our first league win of the season and changed our manager, but the Saints hadn’t been doing too badly
  15. Great signs. Last time round in the PL every game we went behind in resulted in defeat. This time not only have we come from behind to get something out the game, we’ve turned no points into 3 points. I think we have to be grateful though that we conceded very early but equalised soon after
  16. I had doubts on Lampard, Smith, and Knutsen at first. Why?: Lampard - Yes he has some managerial experience, but not much. Should really spend a few more years at a lower level club first Smith - Changed Villa round and got them promoted in a similar way that Alex Neil did with us. Only scraped survival in their first season though and hasn’t done much better with them than Farke has with us so far this season Knutsen - Yes he’s done really well with his Norwegian team but he has no experience in English football. How strong is the Norwegian 1st tier in comparison to the PL? However, I have more belief in Smith now after reading the news that he’s bringing Shakespeare with him as his coach who has vast experience of coaching in the top flight and has even worked for the England national team which makes him sound very good. Hopefully we’ll get some success, if not hopefully he’ll get us straight back up next season Whether we stay up or go straight back down, I’m going to back him
  17. Despite not being first choice for most of us we as the fans have all got to get behind Lampard and support him. Just because we’ve signed someone who sounds like a bad option doesn’t mean they will turn out as a bad option. Look at Lambert - did great for us, how’s he done since he’s moved on though? When Pukki was signed as a free agent I saw people moaning on here saying things like “we don’t want a Celtic reject”. Who on here wishes we’d never signed him now? Personally I think Lampard’s too inexperienced to manage at PL level yet but we’ll see. After all, no one is guaranteed to turn out the same as they did before when they move on
  18. Simple answer: If another club make a bid for Cantwell ask for £30m + maybe 5m add ons and 25% sell on If Newcastle make a bid for Cantwell ask for £50m + £20m add ons and 75% sell on
  19. Although I would be happy to have him, I seriously doubt we’d be able to get him. For a start he’s the favourite for the Villa job, and is also being encouraged to snub it by some pundits as it’s believed it could be a massive blow for his future (possible failure at Villa leading to failure to succeed Klopp at Anfield)
  20. Can’t see how Hasenhuttl would leave Southampton to get an almost certain relegation on his CV with us Can’t see Smith being first choice considering he was sacked after Farke was, although may be considered an option as he kept Villa up in the last 2 seasons Lampard has insufficient experience for me, although he did play under some decent managers at Chelsea and has a little bit of PL and CL experience Not very convinced by Knutsen. Yes he’s won a Norwegian title but if the next manager is set to be announced by the weekend I can’t see how he would take the job when by staying there a little longer he has a chance to get another title on his CV. The strength of that league is also nowhere near what the PL is. Does have a little experience in the Europa Conference League though
  21. I’m not so sure. Most of the world class players are at clubs that regularly qualify for Europe and are earning high wages there. I think first they need to at least make a top half finish, preferably nearly qualify for Europe before they can attract many top players to the club. If they are still looking like they are going to be involved in a relegation battle in January I also doubt they will be able to attract many stronger players. In other words I think they need to: 1) Reach about 12th/be at least about 15+ pts clear of the drop zone by January before they can attract many players from the regular non-relegation battle clubs 2) Finish at least about 9th (or reach that by January) before they can attract many players from the regular Europe qualifying clubs. I also think that they barely stand a chance of signing any first team players from clubs that are still involved in one of the Europe competitions in January
  22. Agree with that - all we needed was a draw and we ended up with a 6-0 defeat
  23. We went straight back down under Worthington in 2004-5
