No. But there is a place for virtue signalling. So out of all of the players who virtue signal weekly down on one knee how many do you imagine will be thrilled to play at the world cup hosted by a country that treats women like second class citizens, outlaws homosexuality and which only banned slavery in 1952? Not one will refuse to go because of their conscience. Every player who takes the knee and gets on that plane is making a display of their own moral bankruptcy and the shallowness of their own superficial virtue. My guess is there wont be one conscientious objector among them (unless he's injured or dropped). These multi millionaire players will leave their army of PRs to square the moral circle on this and to create a more appealing narrative such as their flying to Qatar means a poor kid gets a sandwich or suchlike or that it is racist to not have a world cup in the Arabic world etc. The FA will look the other way- despite the position that supporting this world cup puts them in with regards to the women's game. It was the same with the sale of Newcastle United. Virtue signalling is good for the brand and part of the rather narcissistic world we live in, but actual conscience? That will cost you money.

Is it possible to not be a Cantwell hater, yet still recognise this is for the best? Clearly a talented player, but unfortunately that isn't always enough, which is a shame as it's always nice to see local players in the side.

So you can decide to leave out key elements of the finances to suit your argument, but if anyone else does, they're a board apologist? This is absolutely f*cking hilarious 😂

Putting everything aside, it’s a real shame that it has come to an end like this. When Emi left, Todd had an opportunity to step up to the plate and be the “main man” this season. For whatever reason, that never materialised. He’s now dropped a division and, while there is every possibility that we may trade places, it’s a gamble. If that does transpire, he’ll get the same opportunity he has just had here but a year later in his career. Whatever happens, he had a chance to build a legacy of gratitude and goodwill that now seems to be permanently soured. His contribution to two championship winning seasons and those premier league goals can never be taken away, yet it still feels like what should have been a farewell laced with pride for what he achieved here is now tarnished. He’s undoubtedly a talented footballer though, maybe it’s just best for everyone that this ongoing saga is finally - possibly - at its end.

If that is the case it begs the question why (as far as I am aware), there is not one openly gay professional footballer amongst the 92 league clubs. I am not having a go at your view, I understand where you are coming from and I echo your comment regarding people being kind to each other. That all said you would have thought that by now there would be at least one openly gay footballer, that there is not suggests a lot more needs to be done within football to get to a point where an individual has no qualms in "coming out"........

My sister is taking part in a social experiment. She has to wear a “Boris is doing his best “ t-shirt for 2 weeks and see how people react. So far she’s been spit on, punched and had a bottle thrown at her! I’m curious to see what happens when she goes outside.

Anyone who thinks this squad couldn’t do with help in terms of quality is delusional. The only reason we didn’t bring anyone in is down to money. We are two injuries away from calamity and outside a handful of the the starting XI are players nowhere near good enough at this level.

Well, I for one will miss him. I think that he is a very talented player and that it is a great shame that it had to end like this. We will never know the full truth but it is pretty clear that he has not been happy for some while. I don't know the extent to which being a Norfolk born and bred talent placed extra pressure on him. I know some aren't in the least sympathetic but he is a young man and subject to a level of scrutiny that few of us can imagine. I wouldn't want to be judged by some of the things I said when I was in my early 20s! I really hope that he goes on to fulfil his potential even if t looks like it will not be with us. Good luck Todd.

Tell me you don't understand football without telling me you don't understand football. Being able to read the game at the top level, be in the right place at the right time, making the right runs and avoiding attention of defenders / getting there before Premier League defenders is essentially one of the most prized assets in football and what has been the basis for some of the worlds best players. There's enough weaknesses in some of Todd's play to not try and die on the hill of "Yeah he scored goals but they weren't good enough"
  10. 4 points
Well, we beat Watford after exploiting two of their new signings. Pukki robbed Samir to set up Sargent's first goal, and Sargent absolutely aerially overpowered a new, small full-back in Kamara when heading in his second. If we are showing signs of a lot of new players gelling, why over-complicate the matter by adding even more new players to a relatively embryonic team unless they are a very clear upgrade on what we have? We've surely seen enough trouble from signing players in January that didn't hit the ground running and were seen as liabilities. Rupp and Duda were probably the main two there. It took Rupp a relegation and then a pre-season to hit the ground running with us, but he really did look the part after that.

On the contrary I feel. Because he’s a local lad he’s had to endure more abuse than your average player. Being away from local idiots that will him to fail may just be the best thing that happens to him. Good luck Todd

Oh pi$s off 2 managers didnt want to pick him this season...and no premier league club wanted to sign him He's ended up back in the championship the absolute waster. Another Alex Pritchard

Tbh Aggy i know about as much as you do, i just had read a report saying that the official dashboard would now include reinfections and that it would likely cause a spike mountain in the new cases, but looking at the data Pete above found its getting so dang detailed now with all those rows of stats that it looks as clear as mud to me. I much prefer the more simplified daily read out on Covid that our Ricardo provides each day, even though he likely gets it from the official dashboard to. But better is our Ricardo than any official dashboard i say.

Why this agenda and not others? it’s no longer the 1970s when discrimination was widespread; in fact lgbt is now one of the most fashionable causes and barely ever out of the media spotlight as a result. Is it bad that I yawn a bit these days- so frequent and forced is the messaging? As for many of my gay chums for that matter. Personally I feel the most inclusive thing is to stick to football and ask everyone to be nice to everyone else. Simple kindness and courtesy - job done. the woke politicisation of football which is a cheap way of garnering support through easy virtue signalling is a little trite. Fashionable though - especially amongst the unthinking - so doubtless some will delight in using this as a great opportunity to signal their own moral superiority- off you go…

I could be wrong, but when signed Gibson and Dimi on loan with a view to buy, didn't the club actually state that their signings were not conditional upon promotion (though promotion obliged us to sign them) and that the money for the permanent signing of those players had been budgeted in the 20/21 season accounts. I could be mistake, I've taken to imagining quite a few things that haven't actually happened, but it seems like an odd thing for my mind to fabricate. I know Farke said they would be with us the following year several games before the end of the season and before promotion was confirmed. If that is the case, then isn't it a little duplicitous to now say that actually, Gibson and Dimi's transfer fees are to be included in the 2021/22 spend? If you take away the £14 odd million that we were told was accounted for in last season's budget, that net spend figure starts to look even more unambitious for a team genuinely trying to stay in the Premier League.
  19. 3 points
No I’m not. It’s pathetic given our situation and the fact we’ve given ourselves a sniff of safety but it’s par for the course with the attitude of the club to retaining premier league status.
  20. 3 points
Indeed, it was becoming a bit of a circus. The difference between Cantwell and, say, Max Aarons and Ben Godfrey is that the latter pair are motivated by their football career, and being the best players they can possibly be. Cantwell seems to be motivated by fame and fortune, with football being the vehicle that got him there.
  21. 3 points
Cantwell haters? 😂 He hates his home team which had given him the chance to play in the Premier League, which he snubbed by being spoilt and petulant, and also thinking he was bigger than NCFC. So to answer your question of "Happy Now?" Absolutely f**king delighted.

Because he is young, contracted to Chelsea, extremely talented (even though he doesn’t fit the system we play and lacks bulk for a fight) and will go on to have a glittering career
  26. 2 points
Oh right, is that what scouts do, I had no idea. In that case could they find us a new team of £20m players in every position who will come and play for £15k a week. We'd have a chance then.

If I'm remembered for being the guy who sorted out the tap situation at Carrow Road, then I'll leave my position with my head held high 🙃

It's an interesting side note to our "model" that comparatively few of the players that we have so far built to sell go on to do any better elsewhere. Maddison definitely - but he is in a midtable team and not in the England team despite his talent. Godfrey maybe - but after his early promise and one England squad he is now getting criticism - will be interesting to see what Lampard does with him. Lewis is turning down loans back to the Championship. Jacob Murphy can barely get in a struggling Newcastle team. Josh Murphy is on loan at Preston from Cardiff. The jury is still out on Buendia. Even Redmond hasn't achieved his potential despite a good solid career at a club no bigger than ours. Cantwell was never really in this class for us. He had a few good games but was never consistent and has never had the adulation or respect these players had. £11m would represent a good return for him. I think perhaps Aarons is a bit wiser and understands that holding down a starting place in a PL team isn't quite as easy as others might think. Omobamidele could be the best of them all, if he isn't just another injury prone centre back.

Can I ask for your indulgence as I tell you a story about wallpaper. I was the National Secretary of the NZ Printing Union. And it covered wallpaper printing although there were only two companies producing it in NZ. One day I had a phone call from the MD of one of the companies. He asked for permission to body search the staff as they left each shift. I said it was more a matter of civil rights than a Union matter. But I did ask why naturally. He told that there had been quite a bit of theft from the factory and couldn't find out where it was happening. I asked him how he thought people were going to manage to conceal rolls of wallpaper on their person🤣. He said that it was the only option left to him. I then asked him how much had gone missing and he said 15 tonnes!! (A full trailer load of wallpaper of the unprinted reels they could get on was, wait for it, 15 tonnes!!) Trying to cover up my laughter I did urge him to check his goods in department before going any further with a body search of the staff which could well land him in court. And cheekily did ask him to look out for anyone with a silly walk leaving the factory. Probably a relative of Boris.

Doubt it. I think there were some small protests at Newcastle but the inevitable happened. If the same happened to us, I guarantee the same would happen. Quotes of "not really happy BUT . . ". Football is one of the most self centred, bigoted, small minded parts of our life and its getting worse.
  32. 2 points
We are a Pukki or Rashica injury away from being game over. People say Normann coming back is like a new signing etc, which I agree and I think once we get the midfielders back for the wolves Cup game we will have plenty of options and cover in defence and midfield.. My problem is the top end of the pitch, at the moment we are playing Rashica, Sargent, Idah & Pukki which has worked last couple of games. What happens if one of those gets injured, which they will. Placheta, Dowell, Tzolis, Rowe are the only options, who are either not good enough or not ready for this level yer. Sadly I think the outcome of all this is inevitable and I can't wait to hear the we will learn from this next time spiel to come out. Smith has put us in a much better position with these last 2 results and I can't help but think a new creative, wide, forward etc player would've helped. I'm not saying go spend £20m, but we still had a overseas loan space we could've used.
  33. 2 points
But again, why are you including Bournemouth's option on Cantwell in the 'money in', but not including our options on Kabak and Normann in the 'money out'? It's almost like you're attempting to twist the story in a way that suits you, which is worse than the Pink Un, who even you admitted are being 'factually correct'.
  34. 2 points
Even if that were to happen, why would he have "egg on his face"? It's clear he needs two things from a footballing perspective: to play and to not be at Norwich. For someone who seems to want a detrimental scenario to play out, why wouldn't you want them to be promoted so that they're more likely, or even obliged, to make the deal permanent?
  35. 2 points
So just to clarify, your gripe with the PinkUn reporting is because its, and I quote you here..."factual"?

This is the sort of thing Cummings mentioned in that enquiry where he refused to provide evidence as he wished his evidence to destroy the clown. He told us 6 months ago, like the guy or not clearly he knows about and kept the evidence on everything. No wonder Johnson is not prepared to allow an enquiry. I guess he has proof of ‘ let the bodies pile high ‘.

lol Many others have pointed out that scoring a tap in is harder than just tapping it in. But I do agree that his goal scoring exploits, nice hair and celebrations lead some to overrate him, especially opposition fans who would only watch highlights. I mean there were a lot of people thinking he was better than Buendia which was nonesense then and even moe so now. But he is also a brilliant dribbler and will be a big miss.

Is this post for real. Why do people have to try to imply Cantwell isn’t very good? He is quality. It’s such a shame how things have panned out for reasons I’m sure pretty much none of know, but he is a serious player so give the lad credit for that at least.
  42. 1 point
No, I'm not and nobody else should be okay with it either! You can't tell me that we couldn't have pooled together £2-3 million somehow to get in a young, promising L1 or L2 player who might come good? One CM + one attacking player, both athletic and with physicality, would have made a big difference. Sign one and then loan one in. Should not have been hard!?
  43. 1 point
Thanks Shef, that was exactly the kind of answer I was after... So it boils down to, they will probably try to fudge it so the book cost is nothing until they have cleared the current accounting period though they may not be allowed to depending on how 'nice' their auditors are.... I fully expect to hear nothing more about this then and everyone to just pretend that they haven't broken ffp.

It is difficult to assess Putin's real aims over this issue. For sure he has every right to be wary of the Ukranine assuming closer ties with NATO, but whether he wants amother slice of the (ethnic Russian) part of that country or full invasion is never likely to be clear. A full invasion would seem highly unlikely as it is fraught with the kind dangers that even Putin's Russia would have problems containing. Nevertheless he already has blood on his hands and with the break of of the old USSR being to Putin what Versailles was to Hitler, one can never quite know the mind-set of such dictators. I suppose it is form to threaten Russia with sanctions and for the West to offer what military balance to Ukraine that they are able to. We are decades away from Vietnam though and besides there's no comparison, especially as this is seen by the Kremlin as more Russian incursion into 'Russia' than communist incursion into South-East Asia. The West might view it differently. Such expansion is very, very popular in Russia, nevertheless. Having read most of the works of Mikhail Sholokhov twice over I became fixated myself with the author's own (literary) fixation with the river Don to the extent that I once purposely took myself briefly to the region of his birthplace and Rostov-on-Don, armed with a young lady student guide and translator. I didn't like it at all. Having previouly had a very high opinion of Russians from visiting St. Petersburg these southern Russians were clealy a different breed. Perhaps I picked the wrong bar but even then (over a decade ago) some hostility towards an independent Ukraine (nearly 20% ethnic Russian) and especially those borderland parts with virtually 100% Russians needed to be expressed to this Englishman with a beer in his hand and who briefly represented the West. To the point. Why is Johnson blundering in there? If he cannot understand his own covid rules he has no chance of comprehending this complex situation, whilst Putin will surely need some face saver from the whole ****e-show as he has committed so much. Overmuch aggression might push him to beyond the brink..

  47. 1 point
The answer to the OP is yes, because the game is run by humans, all humans have a conscience, however, it may be that the conscience of some may not sit comfortably with the conscience of others, such is life, and yes the end justifies the means, if your conscience says it does??

You can't gripe mate until you have studied accountancy, have full knowledge of the cash flow associated with all signings and operating income & expenditure, studied the board reports from the finance director, Stuart Webber and Dean Smith and then decide the board made wrong the decision based on all the evidence put before you. Until then, you can just grumble. What's the difference between gripe and grumble, **** knows, but hanging on pop journalism's every word and getting hung up on it, christ go outside and get some fresh air.

Yes actually I think it's a great move for Todd getting some game time where he can shine in a team that's lost its way a bit. Hopefully he will come back and play a role in the Premier league next season.
