The squad has been stretched to it's absolute limits by an unprecedented injury crisis corresponding with the most intense period of fixtures ever known. Some players have been expected to do ninety minutes upon ninety minutes because there has been so little on offer from the bench. It is no surprise that after starting the game well, playing very well and virtually putting a tightly packed Hughton defence under siege at times, apart from some dangerous of breakaways, that we faded increasingly as the game progressed. We still found enough resolve to respond to their goal with one of our own and to hold onto the hard earned points by resisting everything that a competent Forest team had to offer. Even two of the subs we were able to bring on were straight off the treatment table and would probably not have been risked under normal circumstances. No team is going to lie down in front of us in this league, especially one that contains the likes of Lolley, Knockeart, Arta, Ameobi** and others, all guided by the experienced Chris Hughton. A manager for whom every point is a prisoner. I noticed the onset of fatigue, others noticed it, you clearly didn't, preferring instead to fall back on the kind of hackneyed use of the term 'luck' that one would have expected from a typically biased and un-insightful opposition supporter. Our goal was indeed very fortunate, but in the context of the game it was deserved. Even the commentator repeatedly expressed his view that, with so many shots being reigned in (many by the 'poor' Buendia) one would eventually hit the target or get a lucky deflection. It duly happened. Things went our way, as they had previously failed to do so against Luton, but the win was not down to luck, imo. ** Very impressed with this skilful and awkward customer (Ameobi) to the extent that I couldn't help but feel that he was the kind of player more suited to us than the hapless Hugill. Let's just hope that the latter proves me wrong now that he will soon be up and running and will inevitably be given plenty of opportunities to prove his doubters wrong.

No luck at all, we are grinding out results with a threadbare and knackered squad and to be honest it’s nothing short of miraculous what the manager and players are achieving. Some players are of course going to look off colour and short of their best because their energy levels must be way down on the optimum level. Results are all that matter right now and we are doing remarkably well, I’m surprised there isn’t more rejoicing on the forum and social media about how well we are doing. If we get players back for and the injury list remains short until May we could potentially run away with this league as other teams pick up their own injuries and players get picked off in January (yes I know the latter could happen to us too).

Lucky we didn't get that penalty in the first half, as I sure we would have missed Lucky that the Ribena player who blatantly clocked Pukki wasn;t sent off as he should have been, or folk would have been whining that we only won because we were playing ten men We were also lucky to have Sorenson, Aaarons and Martin.............................yep, lucky they just turned up on our doorstep one day

What I respect about you is you're constantly proven you don't have a clue what you're talking about but still spout the same drivel with the same level of confidence as someone who's been told by the entire forum they're consistently right about everything.

This popped up on youtube while looking for something else. You may have been there or even rushed the pitch at the end. (Apologies if already posted and for the blurriness as it goes on.)

Swansea at home (so far). I'm reading a number of posts declaring how lucky we are with results, deflections, penalties etc etc. The simple fact is that especially at home we have dominated every team, bar one with 60-70% possession. Yet a few posters believe we scrape results and are in a false position. Utter rubbish. This seasons litmus test so far was against Swansea (Steipermann scored late on, Aarons was flattened and the brilliant Mumba came on as sub and tore them a new one). Swansea are a class team and went toe to toe with us yet despite our injuries, we won. That is the type of set up we will be against if we get promoted again. No other team has come here and set up to match us team wise, they have virtually all been defensively. Therefore, we will spend most of the game trying one tactic to another and eventually 'our luck' or rather endeavour will usually pay off (Derby aside). We make our luck and long may we continue to do so. The more we persevere the luckier we get! Get behind the team.

I eagerly await the 9000 ejections once full crowd capacity is back for the use of foul, abusive and aggressive language in a public place and where children are present at the next home game then. Where actual laws would have been broken.

Exactly, yes it was distasteful but it’s a sorry state of affairs when it seems we are being brainwashed to all have to comply. as said no laws were broken.

What is absolutely obvious now is that the average Brexiteer clearly didn't, and most still don't, have any understanding on the position the EU would take on preferential access to its single market. Many warned that the EU they would not, could not buckle - they don't need us more than we need them, the German car industry will not force them to change and so on. In short there is no cake and eat it - just crumbs of humble pie. If you leave the club - well you've left the club. It may be cold outside. Now given the above the Brexit leaders were either foolish, intellectually challenged incompetent dreamers or they knew they were selling snake oil to the gullible but had a deeper agenda. Given that most are right wing Tories I believe the true reason why they pursued Brexit was simply that in order to promote their 'US' style free-market, relaxed employment rights, bare minimum safety net economic model they needed as a start to remove the UK from the EU (and generally European) societal norms - the 'welfare state' that grew up since WW2 and largely now enshrined in EU SM rules. This is what drives a no-deal brexit as no other 'level playing field' deal will allow such a potential relaxation in employment standards, amongst others, to occur. In short it's what makes the two positions irreconcilable and no-deal a certainty. Now, that's fine if you want to live like this - but I very much suspect most Brits don't (or won't) - and especially those that tend to need more state help. I guess for them it will be a case of get on your bike. Literally. So wind up the gullible with nonsense about 'sovereignty', faux patriotism, add some nostalgia via rose tinted specs for the 1950s and 60's and you brew up a perfect storm - a witches brew. Thing is though - Can the Brexiteers survive the whirlwind that they will have created when the awful truth comes out!

Not going to criticise anyone (I clearly can’t be trusted to be impartial regarding McLean) because the players are giving everything at the moment. There was one period in the 2nd half where Forest were building an attack just outside the box and multiple City players were just throwing themselves at the ball to try and prevent a pass or cross coming in. They’re putting everything on the line and they deserve our appreciation and support right now. Can’t wait to see how well we play when we have more players back from injury as well.
  13. 3 points
It isn't just that though. We are a superbly coached club now, with an embedded style of play that is superior to almost all sides in this division. I don't think I can remember us dominating games like this consistently as we are at this level before. It's quite brilliant.

Yup, figured you would say that. You focus on the slant I left for you to fall into. You understood the overall picture I was painting. I was simply painting the picture of how a situation without context doesn't provide all of the answers. But you would rather apply that to suggest I am sympathetic to her or supportive of her, yet in the same breath you suggest I have a poor knowledge of her - which I do. At the time of reading I had never heard of her, so the video you posted was the first example. I do find it strange though, that you cannot separate the movement, which involves many people who are not part of the BLM group, many of whom would condone the type of actions and the tweet shared by someone else. I also find it strange that people often confuse taking the knee with a lot of things it was not part of. So for example, it originated in 2016 in sport as a way of expressing sorrow and solidarity with the families who had lost members to police brutality. They two American footballers consulted a US Green Beret veteran and he shared that is how some had done so in the past. It was meant to symbolise a flag at half mast. It had nothing to do with BLM at the time, it had nothing to do with an officer kneeling on anyone's neck as that didn't happen until George Floyd's death in June of this year. Yet all of these things are muddled in with it. Despite the gesture spreading predominantly through sports in support of, and solidarity with Kaepernick who has not had a contract offer since. Like I said, there is context, there are different things happening. The hippy movement wasn't all pushing and pulling in the same direction. It was born out of all sorts of different things. Sexual inequality, gender inequality (they are different), pacifism, more peaceful approaches to the resolution of conflict, better foreign policy, legalisation of drugs... BLM is no different, who voted Sasha Johnson the leader of that group? How big is that group? Do people in Manchester support BLM because of Sasha? Do they know who she is? Would they support her? So far as I am concerned, if people are protesting peacefully I have no problem. It's what people died to enable people to do. Freedom of expression. If footballers want to continue taking the knee, so be it. Whether I agree or not, whether you agree or not. It should be respected, because next time it could be you protesting and I am sure you wouldn't want the same response. Obvious typo is obvious: "All of the things you address are issues and issues that need addressing. But you assume wrong and if you keep doing so this discourse will end with me not being involved." "Is this some kind of message board intimidation.. 😂 I've really sh it now Chicken is involved! " I do find it interesting that this thread has seen your posting regularity leap up somewhat. Must be a very invoking subject for you?

So one of ours was booted out at the Forest game. Not quite crime of the season is it. When did booing become a punishable offence. What next? Being yanked out for shouting at an opposition player? Reprimand for telling the ref to hurry the time wasters up? I and many others have had enough of this almost daily charade that seems to have been afforded a higher status than any other in my lifetime. The fear being created by the media and authorities that anyone disagreeing with the political BLM gesture is a criminal is seriously concerning. And Archant, why cant we comment on the story? Scared that there will be sane people expressing support for the person ejected?

You're stockpiling soil from NI??? Don't tell me - you've found an incredibly obscure loophole in the Withdrawal Agreement whereby anyone who covers their garden in a metre of NI topsoil remains in the Single Market along with all the attendant rights, so you are clogging up all the ports with container loads of NI soil which you'll be flogging at an exorbitant price after Jan 1st - you are going to make an absolute killing 😀😀😀

I too was very disappointed by this news as I had a ticket and went last night under the assumption that I would not be required to wear a mask in the cold outside air. I wear glasses for distance and as predicted I could not see a thing with my face fully covered. In the end I wore it over my mouth only and could thankfully see. There were plenty of people around me in the same boat and in fact quite a few that didn't wear one at all. The stewards let it go and did not seem to be enforcing the rule. That's not to say that they wont going forward. However I do agree with others who have posted here and if the club or the EFL are going to pursue with face masks in the stand, then I wont be rushing back. If the club are wondering why they are struggling to sell tickets, they can add this to their list of reasons why people are put of attending.

Skipp may be here next season Gibson may be here next season Aarons if he leaves will mean a huge input of cash to be able to buy one or two good players Quitilla may be here next season Tettey will retire from us, with huge honour Rupp will be better next season for his success this season in his preferred role McLean will always be a useful player, whichever league we are in There will be money for buying another keeper, or getting one in on loan as we did before.

Agreed. As I said earlier, we are the only side in the top 6 that have won more than 2 of their last 5 games and they don't have our deep injury list either. Our team has picked itself in recent weeks, not based on form but who isn't on the treatment table. We've had no ability to rotate and rest tired players or simply make changes for players lacking form. There needs to be a certain amount of pragmatism and realism shown by the team and the fans at the moment. The injuries, the constant 2 games a week, the general competitiveness of the league and the fact that unlike 2 seasons ago, we are not a surprise anymore. No one expected us to win the league given the mediocre season before, we lost our best player and had 5 points from the first 6 games. Teams are just not going to allow space in behind against us anymore because the runs of Pukki and Steipermann/Buendia feeding the ball through to him is too dangerous, Bristol City did and we made them pay. Most teams are going to just sit back and counter.

It may be reasonable to consider, but it isn't reasonable to extrapolate that to the entire movement. For example in the US 90%+ of the protests went without incident. Those that did typically had aggressive responses either from the Police or from far right groups, or, like Umbrella Man, had far right protagonists deliberately instigating the damage to property and looting. It's not really any different to any other movement in that sense. I took part in marches in London against top up to tuition fees in the early 2000's. The overwhelming majority were peaceful and did what we set out to do. Towards halfway, a bunch of kids, clearly no older than 16 tagged along. They weren't at the start of the march, they didn't have any placards handed out. But they tagged along. No one had any issue, they were old enough to be protesting about the possibility of tuition fees they might face in the next few years. They did interact a little with the actual protest, but minimally. Then, closer to Trafalgar Square where the march ended, they started to become vocal. They were not saying anything in support of the march, they were swearing and throwing insults at people who had stopped to watch the march, with particular intensity and animosity reserved towards the police. In the end other students and I told them to 'go away' or behave. Though I am sure we may have worded it a bit stronger than that. The police had seen what they were doing and didn't want to strong arm youths in the midst of an otherwise incredibly peaceful protest. They left us in the end when it was clear they weren't welcome. So yes, you can assume there is more, but what you cannot assume that they are the core, or the majority or even something coming close to a strong force within a movement which is made up of a hodge podge of peoples from around the globe. Some will join it to take advantage of it's support. Some may well even be narcissists looking for their 15mins of fame. But your suggestion is to boo the majority for the acts of the minority - which is very poor. Especially when it is something our sport supports, our club supports and our players support. If you really want to show opposition to it in a way that doesn't bring embarrassment on your club don't take to your seat until you hear them kick off.
  34. 1 point
I sincerely hope that any so called Norwich fan who boos players taking the knee is ejected and banned. We are a respectable club and don't need that kind of 'support'. It's not suppressing free speech, it's making a clear statement that we do not allow racist abuse in the stands. Whatever swing you attempt to put on it, booing a gesture of racial equality *is* racist.

In all seriousness, have to agree, Hanley has been very good indeed. Sorensen has hardly put a foot wrong. Max superb. Emi his usual brilliant and frustrating self. Krul a colossus and leader. Rupp a revelation. Skipp outstandingly combative and efficient . Add the potentially excellent Placheta and the glimpse we got of Bali Mumba and not forgetting our cool Finnish Finisher...... it's a tough question TvB but if the season ends now has to be big Tim Krul for me, leadership , his pens , but most of all it's because I believe that we wouldn't be where we are without him.

There is a Steipermann bandwagon which trundles along beside the McLean and McGovern ones unfortunately. He’s not brilliant and he’s not awful, but is doing a solid job for the team.

Ha ha the funny thing is that Toubab IS being used to discriminate against him, he will paying 'Toubab' prices at bars , restaurants etc, probably taxis and accommodation too. I have spent time in the Gambia and 'friends' pay less than Toubabs. Toubabs are cash cows, simple as that.

If it was up to you though we would have got rid of Farke before this season and likely be lingering around midtable trying to rebuild. As for defending, we are conceding less than our last promotion season.
  43. 1 point
Those who thought Emi and Steipermann had a hard time need to consider that Forest packed 5 players across quite a compact midfield, leaving just Lyall Taylor chasing things up front. That's was Forest's game plan, 10 players behind the ball, at least until the 62nd minutes when Taylor was withdrawn and they slowly became more expansive with Knockeart and Ameobi give permission to push on a bit as Norwich tired (notably Josh Martin and Steips). Personally, I thought Forest should have been a bit braver, but maybe if they had it would have been a 4-1 or 5-1 game. They remainded in the game and the delivery of their set pieces was so good that they always had a puncher's chance of catching us. In his deep role, Mario Vrancic was allowed by Forest to see plenty of the ball. My feeling was that they had had Norwich watched in games when Mario wasn't playing. In the event of course, he was a very deep pivot and not a major, major factor in the win, so maybe they knew what they were doing. Everyone did their job last night - Sorensen had a hard time, in fairness he is not a natural defender and gets caught a bit square on - so we should be celebrating a hard-earned win.

I agree with all you said about City but for me, this is the crux of it. With most of the squad fit, there would have been rotation with the relentless fixture list, although I do note that we do have a whole week off soon between fixtures. It's implausible to expect players to keep up a high level over 90 minutes all the time, even with a fully fit squad. That's why teams make substitutions or rotate, to change systems or players that aren't working. We have not really had that luxury and some players have just been doing 90 minutes after 90 minutes after 90 minutes. I honestly don't know what people are expecting when we've had an injury list that if you added some decent centre backs to it, would make up a team likely to push for promotion on their own. This season more than ever with the congested fixtures is going to be about grinding out results and we're doing that. No side is playing consistently well and a look at the form table shows that we are the only side in the top 6 that have won more than 2 of their last 5 fixtures. All with a horrific injury list. I think it's fair to say that we aren't playing with the same attacking fluidity as 2 seasons ago but then last year we were criticised for being too open and clearly Farke has tried to address that, add that to the fixture list and injuries and it's not surprising.

Cantwell instantly sparked the midfield and set up Emi for his "goal." He didn't quite come off after that and was lacking a bit of sharpness. He made up for this with effort.

Let's be honest, we were playing a team in record levels of bad form and scraped a win with a fortuitous deflected goal. It was pretty poor. But we were up against a ref who wanted Forest to win and obviously with our ongoing injury crisis so gotta be pleased. Can we all now agree that Stiepermann shouldn't be anywhere near the first team? I don't know how much more evidence you need.
