Mark Bobbins lost at home to Cardiff. Tiny Keefy's dream manager lost 3-1 at Leeds. Preston lost to Birmingham. West Brom dropped 2 points at home to Watford. Dry your eyes together and get some rubber pants for the next few weeks. It's going to be a rollercoaster so buckle up... OTBC CTID COYY 💛💚💪

Batth was signed under Webber, though, alongside Duffy, Forshaw, Barnes, Long and Hwang. At least that was part of a clear strategic decision, i.e. we need more experience and grit in the squad (much as I didn't agree with that course of action at the time, and even less so with hindsight). The SVH/Idah one is really perplexing. This is pure speculation, but I think it could have been Idah and his agent angling to make it happen. From his POV, he's been given a five-year contract here, been roundly criticised by fans for his performances and is rarely starting matches. An opportunity arises for him to play for Celtic (always a big draw for a young Irish lad), and the promise of starting matches that he's likely to win for a team that's always on the front foot, in front of 60,000-odd fans, and a probable Scottish Cup Final at Hampden at the end of the season... what's not to love? Maybe the club accepted that in the long-term, with four years still to run on his contract, it might serve his development better to let him go to Celtic, and then try to loan in a decent replacement. Alas, it appears that the 'decent' element of that replacement hasn't quite worked out; whether that's due to attitude, match fitness, adapting to the new environment or a bit of all three, we're now saddled with a lump who's very clearly not in the manager's thoughts. I'm sure we'll get an explanation about the situation at some point, but only once Idah is back in the building and we've (hopefully!) opted not to pursue Donk on a permanent deal. One can only assume that we've given up on trying to get Aboh to stay beyond the summer; it's a chicken-and-egg thing. If he's said he's leaving, only giving him match time is likely to change that decision; however, why give minutes and development to someone who's not committed to the cause and will be pulling on another shirt come the summer? Once the season's over, it'll be interesting to see how forthcoming Knapper is with his reasoning, as this is clearly a suboptimal position for us to be in – going into a potential playoff run with only one number 9 who the manager has any faith in, he's managing an injury and the manager doesn't trust anyone to play more than a handful of minutes to ease the burden. It's an odd one, for sure.

If you listen to players who played for us under Lambert they all say that he convinced them they were better than any team they played against. He gave them confidence to compete with sides we had no right too. He backed that up with his decisions that he had faith that they could. It’s very much in the mould of Brian Clough. If you tell players they are capable they think they are. The flip side of this is Wagner and Hughton and that when you tell players they are playing against someone better than them and they can’t compete inevitably we don’t. The words managers use tend to manifest the belief squads have within them.

Purposefully refrained from reading much on here post the game as it's always a little OTT and silly, particular with Wagner in charge, where fans who were wrong about him are twisting as much as possible to ensure they're still right, somehow. Anyway... I thought Leicester were good. I thought they were in control both before and after our goal. They have quality in pretty much every position. I don't think we set up "too" negatively. People seem to confuse set-up with outcome. They're different and there's 22 players on the pitch that impact it. We still tried to have the full-backs high. We still kept Nunez, Sara, Sainz, Barnes and Sargent in the starting 11. We still started Sorensen for his ball-playing ability, over Duffy. The problem was not only are Leicester's wide players some of the best in the league (potentially the best), but their central midfield are excellent too. In reality too good for this level. So we had some excellent wingers vs our incredibly high full-backs. Eventually we had to concede that a bit, or it could have become a cricket score. Of course we naturally sat a bit deeper and more compact anyway. Losing Sorensen to injury wasn't ideal. McCallum vs Gianoullis has been a debate but one thing Gini can do is dribble out of the opponents press - Sam can't. We lost a lot of ability to play through the press with a rusty Duffy. Mclean and Nunez were poor and didn't offer enough rotation to help. Bad day at the office, but I don't think it was down to a simply "negative" manager - both coach and manager have said the intention was to be on the ball, aggressively, a lot more.

I hate the little old Norwich attitude we saw from the usual suspects on here yesterday, it's actually baffling how they can't tell the difference between people being pissed at us not even competing yesterday as opposed to simply losing. Yesterday was imposter syndrome and it's not the first time we've seen it from Wagner, its very Hughton-esque and should neve ever be accepted by fans. Losing is one thing, but at least have the balls to have a go, it's more irritating by the fact that whenever we try this tactic we're just so bad at it, similar to England our better players are those in attacking positions, utilise them. Leicester are a good side, but were on a woeful run of form, and were terrible at Bristol on Friday, we should have had nothing to fear but were scared ****less of them.

Jesus! That's some denial of what is presented before our very eyes. Ok, they are well managed and have belief, but how can they possibly lack 'skill and talent' given the season they have had? I hate to admit that, and I have yellow and green specs on with regard to that lot but come on! Also, you surely don't ride this league the way they have for most of the season because of luck. Rivalry does not include ignoring the obvious. Let's just hope we deflate their bubble somewhat this weekend. It's the best we can hope for. (Now I'll get "binner" taunts, of course, but I'm a football fan as well as a Norwich City supporter.)

Don't really understand all the "we're going to sell everyone and everything is terrible" vibes. We've been beaten today by a team who were expected to walk this league, and on the back of a few poor results for them. They just came out and things clicked against us today. It happens. Any other time and people would have been expecting us to lose this one. The point is, play offs still very much on and we could yet get out of this league and keep our best players.

...... and out they all crawl. Firstly there is not too much Wagner can do once the players are in the pitch. I expect the fans of Cov, Preston and even WBA will be complaining about their respective defeats. It happens. For every Hull away there is often a Boro away. Wagner and the coaching staff have taken us from 17th to a play off place. Today was always thought the hardest of the final 8. The bollox about Leicester low in confidence is just that....bollox. We travelled to Cardiff (Nov) having managed 1 point out of the previous 18 so theoretically we were 'low on confidence' and we were subsequently............ err, we won. All runs come to an end, and previous games are never any real indication of how the following game will be, unless you are completely ****. Leicester players (ex Pl, many) have not gone away. They were runaway leaders not long back. Look at their bench compared to ours today. We've cobbled together a side of Duffy, Barnes and Stacey, plus low fee players with a couple of freebies thrown in. Undoubtedly the usual malcontents will whinge about that, but needs must. And far from steadying the ship for a season the coaching staff have actually got them working as a tight-knit squad taking us to the play offs. Today was not the end of the world, as some on are whining. But it does indicate (on this forum) where loyalties lie with a number on here - and it is not in NR1. As for me, we are still the same (Hull ?) for 6th place, only one less game to go.

This reminds me very much of the hype Mumba had last season, so it's likely we'll cash out on Kamara should Portsmouth get promoted. Omobamidele we cashed out on, Mumba we cashed out, Idah looks like we're in the process off cashing out, Tzolis we're mid-cashout. etc. etc. It's no wonder we faced Leicester at the weekend with very few options out wide so we had to put Sara there while our CBs struggle to play basic balls around. Honestly, if he looks like he's worth 1-2 million probably best to not get excited of the thought of him coming back and doing a number here. I feel like one of the moaners now, perhaps it's just a spot of post-bank holiday blues and watching the scum pull it out the bag last night. 😉

Extract from The Times .... How privatisation went wrong The dire financial plight of Thames Water is merely the latest evidence of an obvious truth, says Libby Purves in The Times: privatising essential services is a “dead 1980s dream, fit to join Joan Collins’s Dynasty shoulder pads in the dustbin of history”. When Margaret Thatcher entered office in 1979, there was some logic to selling the likes of steel, aerospace and shipbuilding back into private hands. Even some on the left could see the value of replacing “weary jobsworth managements” with “go-getting business-like dynamism”. But more critical services soon went the same way: power, railways, water supply, sewerage. By 1990, more than 40 state-owned firms had been sold, often at knock-down rates. Apart from perhaps BT, few of these privatisations have been a success. Ofgem has had to fix power prices and bail out failed companies; the rail industry is a shambles; “and let’s not start on the Post Office”. Other countries were much more cautious: Ireland’s mail, rail, buses and water have stayed public, along with Denmark’s national grid, France’s postal service and Switzerland’s “immaculate” railway system. Strikingly, almost no one else has “entrusted clean water to private profit”. The reason is so obvious it’s barely worth stating: in the absence of decent competition or effective regulation, private companies will alway prioritise their shareholders over the public. Of course, the Tories will be loath to undo “St Margaret’s legacy”. But with Thames Water, they need to bite the bullet: let it fail, “pick up the assets dead cheap and run it properly”.

I have defended the Norwich city management team for the whole of the season, but today it was simply unacceptable. Parking the bus was fundamentally the wrong approach!! Leicester were woefully short of confidence coming into the game. A defence with errors in it, and we decide to park the bus! Dreadful tactical error - it was only a matter of time, for them to score. A disgrace manager!

It is always an odd decision to loan a player in on a short term deal who is both unfit due to lack of game time and coming from a different league with a totally different style of football. You look at our rivals and their January loanees were generally playing in England or Scotland and thus didn't need an extended period of adjustment to make an impact.

The fact that yesterday was away and Saturday is at home is a big factor. Plus Leicester's squad is by far the strongest in the division. As for yesterday's game, yes we were poor and the approach was very disappointing but we can either keep bleating on about it or look forward positively to the weekend.

We loan in a player to plug a gap, but that player is just not ready to plug that gap, and how long has he been here? Perhaps they should just admit he is not or ever will be good enough? As it seems increasingly likely that this is the case. Complete c-ck up. I was quite pleased to see the back of Adam Idah, and I note his gloss is quickly fading at Celtic, but at least he had something to offer in the now, when it is needed. What a peculiar affair! If this was instigated by Ben Knapper, then it augurs badly for the future. If Wagner pushed for the move, then no surprise there. Either way, it was terrible scouting. My little bubble that we could actually get promoted this season has been severely deflated by yesterday's efforts. I expected nothing of the sort in terms of performance, although the result might well have been on the cards. Neither was it a one-off, as we have seen similar capitulations against 'Boro and so many times earlier in the season. A manager who seemed to have lost the plot and a team of decent performers totally incapable of getting their act together. In the meantime, those down the road go from strength to strength at this crucial time of the season. Is it a microcosm of management capability, scouting and a gap in the way the clubs are run that whilst they signed Kieffer Moore to plug that gap, we signed SVD? This is not a knee-jerk reaction to one bad performance, and it truly was that, because we have seen it all before so many times this season, and at the moment there can be no excuses for injury to star players, bar Rowe. Yesterday's appraisal by Wagner was nonsense. It was desperate stuff from beginning to end, and I cannot see any other club in this league ever putting in such an awful, disorganised performance. Perhaps the team is not good enough after all, but they are better than yesterday's display

Out of the 6 Clubs in the Play Off places, 5 went for it today and 1 didn't. Being one of those 6 at start of play and with a handful of games left you really have no option but to go for it. At this stage of the season nobody would be complaining if we had gone for it and lost. But we didn't, Wagner lost his nerve, put the shackles on and set out for a draw. That is why people are unhappy.

Indeed. Yet 'trying something different' is not a characteristic one can hang on Herr Wagner. Nor is his giving opportunities to young players. Aboh should have been given at least 20 minutes to run at their defence.

All this talk of protecting Sargent, he could have come off for the second half today and given Sydney a run out. After all there was no intent to win the game today so might as well have tried something different.

Been to tonnes over the last few years (although I'd wager, not many on here will be on the same vibe!) Since May 2022, I have done: The Script x 2, Sheku Kanneh Mason x 2, My Chemical Romance + Funeral for a friend, Alterbridge + Halestorm, Liam Gallagher, Embrace x 2, Bon Iver, Papa Roach, Muse x 2, Blink 182, Bring me the Horizon + Bad Omens, Tom Clarke (from the Enemy) acoustic set, Corella, DMAs and Download 2023 where I watched: Ice Nine Kills, Bring me the Horizon, I Prevail, Disturbed, Ghost, Evanesence, Slipknot, Metallica x 2, Moionless in White, Asking Alexandria, Amity Affliction, Neck Deep, Bad Religion, Pendulum. Upcoming I have got: Smashing Pumpkins + Weezer Foo Fighters Liam Gallagher Leeds fest for a day (Taking my 7 year old to see Blink 182 for her first gig) Download fest - bought after last year but lineup is weak for my taste, so am going to sell the weekend tickets and just get a Sunday day ticket and a Slam Dunk ticket as there is much more for me doing it that way (Download - Limp Bizkit, Sum41's last UK festival show, The Used, Corey Taylor) (Slam Dunk: I Prevail, Asking Alexandria, You Me At Six last UK festival, the Dangerous Summer, Caskets, As December Falls, LS Dunes, Goldfinger, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus), Funeral for a friend (although they were awful supporting MCR in 2022), We the Kings, Head Automatica. I like music a lot. Of the gigs I've been to over last few years, highlights were Bon Iver who is just an unbelievable musician, Corella who are really up and coming, they're ace. DMAs who are excellent live, and Papa Roach who were awesome, and the whole of Download fest last year was bloody wonderful - every single band I saw killed it.... but Bring Me The Horizon are hands down the best live band I've ever seen, and I've seen ALOT of bands. They are on fire at the moment.

I think it’s a justified concern. But should we sell Idah or Rowe I would hope it makes it far more likely we keep Kamara. I’d rather we didn’t sell any talent, of course. But I can’t see how, should we not go up (and I don’t think we will), we won’t be selling at least one of Sara, Rowe or Sarge

For anyone interested, there's an opportunity to see Kamara in action tonight - Portsmouth v Derby is on Sky Sports. May also be interesting to see how Derby are playing under Paul Warne - I remember him being suggested as a possible manager for us in the past but he's been low profile while it has taken some time for Derby to get going but they're doing well now.

I for one love to see the whingeing and whining on here. It helps take away some of the disappointment. This place is lively, even vibrant, and of course much more fun. I’m told there’s twice as much to talk about when we lose. I’ve never understood why. But I say long live the whingers and whiners. It’s good to see them alive and well👍
  40. 1 point
So you think people should be happy after yesterday do you? If being solid defensively means conceding three goals then there is clearly something wrong. You mention the squad, why oh why does Wagner persist with playing players out of position such as Sorensen and McLean at centre back when we have the likes of Batth and Duffy sat on the bench? It makes absolutely no sense at all. Duffy is an international defender and Batth was outstanding last season so why not play people in their right positions? Also, when we needed a goal he took off Barnes but put a midfielder on and not a striker, is that good management? The way you defend the club is admirable but, if Wagner doesn’t trust proven players in their correct positions then something is not right with the set up is it? The SD and coach should work together in identifying which players to bring in, something that clearly hasn’t happened with Batth and SVH. It just goes to show in my opinion that not everyone at the club is working together to get what we all want, a successful football team.
  41. 1 point
Yes you’re quite right. We were playing away at a team with probably the strongest squad in the division. They have a game in hand on Leeds and Ipswich and if they win that they will be top. It’s obviously unacceptable that we didn’t go there and batter them 5-0!
  42. 1 point
I just can't see how playing two up top but having neither of those as an outlet when we sat back made any sense. It just allows the opposition to squeeze, and it was obvious what was coming. Very sad to see us play in that fashion, I could understand it if we're giving them something to think about when we break - but we were just handing them possession.
  43. 1 point
Wouldn't particularly be blaming the defenders today. Whenever we drop into that 4-4-2 low block and try to hold, we end up defending constantly and there will always be gaps. It's one of the great mysteries of the Wagner era that it has almost always resulted in points lost but we will persist with it. The real problem is a lack of adaptability, be it in the players or the coaching. Leicester had such a clear plan to isolate & target McCallum, for example, but we didn't seem overly concerned with doing anything about it. The best defenders in the world would concede goals if constantly faced with overloads for an hour.

How many billions does the government currently spend annually topping up peoples wage so they can afford the rent in private rentals, effectively subsidising the sector? Wouldn’t it make much more sense to spend that on building house, so at least the state gets an asset for that outlay? Ive got no real issue with towns becoming unbalanced if you prioritise young families. There’s many towns that are that way already, either by pricing the poor out or having been taken over by the elderly so I don’t really see having one largely populated by young families as a problem. As for capacity if space is at a premium then we have to build higher and engage in densification, plenty of other cities manage it
