It's perhaps worth remembering that Farke didn't leave our club by choice.

No, what's ridiculous is people demanding that their petty playground tribalism is more important than normal human compassion. Some of us take a bit more of a balanced view of the world. I've enjoyed our past rivalry with Leeds and, while I don't like the arrogance of some of their fans, I hope Farke can impact the culture of their club. That's the thing I love about Daniel: he's pretty honest and humble. Ultimately it's better if teams can be successful by playing good football rather than just spending money. You either want managers like Farke and Martin to succeed, or you accept that the only path to winning is with the backing of billionaires.

I think we’re going to lose the first one.

I agree. I don't buy this "Norwich isn't attractive to a buyer" vibe. Only 24 teams can ever be in the biggest most global football league at any time and we've seen our fair share of time at the captains table in recent years. I'd say we are probably one of the most attractive clubs to buy right now as we are under achieving with a premier league set up already in place.

Thanks @PurpleCanary excellent stuff. You don’t mention money. And the contention that it wasn’t Farke who failed at the top level, rather that our finances were grossly insufficient regardless of model? That the club failed rather than Farke per se? That football has changed so dramatically, and is thus so distorted that ‘competing’ at that level with a rigid adherence to self-sufficiency simply is too great a sporting handicap? That 2 championships in 3 years is - as Webber himself said - ‘historically successful’. That Farke paid for an ambitious personal gamble - and a desperate appointment of Smith - that only proved that what we had was the apotheosis with what we’ve got? That selling Buendia at the point of the promotion - to get a juicy £40m sale on the CV - simply proved that the golden touch of conveyor belt replacements was a mirage? That it utterly destroyed all precious momentum and psychological high in players and staff alike? That ‘belief’ - the ultimate commodity - simply vanished overnight? That subsequent evidence proves we have lost far more than we gained? Parma

It's interesting to see diverse opinions and perspectives in football. While fans may have different allegiances and rivalries, it's important to acknowledge the achievements and efforts of individuals within the sport. I appreciate your passion for your club and hope to see more of your contributions in the future. OTBC!

This does somewhat point to another issue I have with Farke. I never liked his quotes about how we were never going to get anything v Liverpool or Man City and I have to wonder how much did his own lack of belief in our players rub off on the team? Thomas Frank and Chris Wilder kept up teams with not much more talent than ours and I bet you wouldn't catch them dead talking like that.

What, because he went for the Leeds job? Having been sacked by us, he has every right to go to a rival club. If he had chosen to leave us for Leeds, that would be different, but he didn't.
  11. 3 points
He owes us nothing. This is all on Webber.

Every. Single. Season. Pre-season games are catnip for the miserablists.

I like that in our first title win under Farke, we ended pre-season with a 1-0 loss to League One Charlton. I also like that in our League One season under Bryan Gunn, we were unbeaten in pre-season, including games again Manchester United and Crystal Palace. In our first Premier League "embarrassment" under Farke, we beat Tottenham and Shalke away from home. Are people getting it yet? Some of the same posters wetting their pants in full view of the rest of the forum made some comments back then that look as hilarious as I suspect the one's tonight do. Genuinely funny.

A big mistake by the club. Not a rumour, nor any speculation at all. He just turns up, and a few hours later his playing for us. That is not the way to do things. We had a good run with Tom Ince. Plenty of mileage out of that one. Makes you wonder if the club are going to do this sort of underhand stuff again.

'Ex Watford' doesn't really narrow it down much, does it?! 😆

It's a more acerbic play on words for anybody with an engineering background given your 'limited bandwidth' quip. A limited bandwidth signal is likely consistent with a low pass filter (it only allows or limits slow things to pass i.e. frequencies or in this quip people). Your (analogue not VOIP) phone has an ADSL filter in-line (low pass) before it meets the BT socket most likely. It stops the much higher frequency 'internet' or broadband signals from confusing your 'slow' (audio frequency) phone. Of course in the days of dial-up modems and faxes many of us will recall the slow beeps and buzzing of the 'slow' low bandwidth data stream!

Yes. This has turned into a virtual bodyline series, so a bit of pace(96mph) won't go amiss. The batting is strengthened immensely with both Ali and Woakes included, whilst Lawrence for Pope doesn't seem to have weakened that position considering Pope's average contribution so far. Woakes, so often unfairly left out, has a point to make .... yet again. Useful with both ball and bat and tough.

We didn't get rid of Smith til it got too toxic to keep him. It only got toxic because the results became disappointing. They became disappointing again later on but it got toxic for Webber. He's gone too now. If this forum is anything to go by it won't take many defeats for it to become toxic again.

Hope yes, think no. There's a player in there. Weirdly I think his ceiling is the highest out of all our recent signings. However I think the move to Norwich has been awful for his development and he might not push on until he leaves.

Any opportunity people like Farage get to use any negative thing that happens to them in a way to blame the establishment will be thoroughly rammed home. The Jim Davidson, Piers Morgan-loving swathes will lap it up. Silly old gammons.

Good luck to her, I hope she's got the position on merit which is possible as she's only worked in the men's game previously. However with it being Dale Vince I worry about it being a publicity stunt.

He was sacked. Owes us nothing. Plus it was, to him, just a job, a means of earning his living, one of many steps he has taken in his career with, no doubt, plenty more to come after Leeds, whatever happens there. With very few exceptions, managers and players are not going to have the connection with a club we have as fans. Yet its sometimes expected of them. But, again, for them, it's just a job. As for Leeds. Don't 'hate' them myself. Its only football and they're only another football club, one that needn't bother us or occupy our thoughts at all other than for 90 minutes on two occasions next season.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and insights on Norwich City's recent decisions and the footballing philosophy associated with the club. It's clear that you have a deep understanding and appreciation for the unique style of play Norwich City has traditionally embraced. While there may be differing opinions on the specific decisions made, it's important to remember that football is a complex sport with many factors at play. The choice to part ways with Daniel Farke was undoubtedly a difficult one, but sometimes tough decisions are necessary for the sake of the team's progress and success. The split management structure with a sporting director and head coach has been a notable feature of Norwich City's approach in recent years. This model aims to ensure continuity of footballing philosophy, which is commendable. The emphasis on the academy and infrastructure, as well as the club's financial constraints, demonstrate a long-term vision for sustainable growth and development. While there may be uncertainties and dilemmas that arise, it's encouraging to see that the continuity of purpose and style is likely to be maintained even after Stuart Webber's departure. It's also worth acknowledging the credit due to the Webbers for their efforts in building the club's foundation. As for the future, it's difficult to predict the exact path Norwich City will take if they return to the Premier League. The balance between spending, playing style, and aspirations can present challenges, but with a strong foundation and a clear footballing identity, the club can navigate these decisions effectively. Your passion and knowledge about Norwich City are evident, and your contributions to the discussion are appreciated. Let's continue to support the club and hope for the best as we move forward. On the ball city!

I really enjoyed my evening out at the hive, decided to drive and parked 5 metres from the entrance, saw an old colleague of mine Tom Hart who is now head of academy coaching at NCFC and despite the 1-1 draw thoroughly enjoyed the match with a tea and twix in hand. both sets of fans impeccably behaved with NCFC fans giving a rendition of Happy Birthday to a fan who in return gave them the (Something that rhymes with) banker sign good to see some of the kids, the other centre back (not hills) will go very far in the game and fisher looks like a genuine prospect.

What are you talking about? Do you:we have a need to know absolutely everything about everyone? No. Will it impact our season? Unlikely …what is the problem?

Rubbish. We had one of our best runs of the season with Kenny and Sara alternating at dropping deep. To say otherwise is just wrong.

The tail certainly looks a lot shorter - but we’ve effectively swapped a top order batsman for an all rounder in Ali. Saw an interesting stat earlier : In this ashes series England have a higher collective batting average than Australia. Both teams have lost 38 wickets (England declared in the first test 8 wickets down and Australia won by two wickets), England have scored 1260 runs off the bat and Australia 1245, making England’s collective average 33.1 and Australia’s 32.7. This England team are the 274th team in men’s test history to be 2-0 down in a series and the first to ever have a higher collective batting average. The difference is England have bowled 118 extras compared to Australia’s 58.

Shows how much respect I have for Farke that despite my hatred for Leeds I’d be happy for them to be successful under Farke for his sake. (Not at our expense though obviously). I hope he gets a hell of a reception when he returns - he deserves it.
