Harry Kane would rather go to Germany than have to try and say Postecoglu on TV.

You've got to admire the ability of a company to **** up something they have a monopoly over like Thames Water. Personally I'm all for nationalisation of key utilities. They are a societal need and shouldn't be subject to the whims of shareholders and short term drives for profits over actually being efficient and doing what they should.

There is a poster on the PinkUn talking absolute drivel in this thread. I won't name him as that would be highly unfair, let's just call him Popular Search Engine Droid. No one will have a clue who I'm talking about.

It is not a preagreed system. This is a club-mandated system that puts commercial income above fan-loyalty (the earlier points-based scheme was put together by a fans' group and had far fewer problems than Kensall's botch) "The usual suspects" will be the ones supporting the team at far-off grounds, and at inconvenient times, and (often) whether the team are performing well or poorly. There are no logical reasons why these fans should not have priority for in-demand matches.

Problem is: what we call GOOD money is absolute peanuts in EPL terms.

Don’t think that is correct. We paid up what we owed to Coventry along time ago. One of Webbers good decisions

So much for Webber's original statement that he'd ensure the succession plan for his role would be sorted before he left as he didn't want to leave a burden for Smith & Jones. The guy bull****s every time he opens his mouth.
  8. 3 points
Yeah I've not bothered getting an away membership since relegation as you can usually get a ticket for 75% of games on general sale.

If Bethnal hadn't reported it some other journalist would have done. It is a newsy insight that seems to go a long way to explaining a player's lack of impact for Norwich City. Totally valid to make it public.

Webber's time at the club is very much a tale of two halves, wonderfully successful initially and pretty woeful thereafter. It strikes me a little unusual that he remains in place working his notice. Here, we have a man structuring our rebuild and then leaving before we get to judge the results. That he is strongly rumoured to be joining a Championship rival makes his presence even more questionable. A previous post on this thread was critical of our owners for not following the lead of other listed clubs in not chasing success with more (borrowed?) cash. Could it be that the manner in which £55m. was sprayed up the wall two seasons ago, has deterred them from that idea? Such terrible recruitment that the purchases were not only not good enough for the league for which we bought them, they were not good enough for the league to which we were relegated.

I’ll see your “recruit athletes and train them as footballers” theory, and raise you Przemysław Płacheta.

This is what happens when ideology overrides commonsense. Water is a natural monopoly. It has to be owned and run by the state, not carpet bagging spivs.

Absolute disgrace that the giver of life which is plentiful in this country is dependent on whether or not a private company, preferring its shareholders to customers, can refinance its debt. And yet was still willing to pay its CEO a massive bonus on top of her contract. Thatcher said privatisation would put the companies back in the hands of us the people who would be shareholders but would be run by efficiency experts. Within two years all the shares had been bought out by large investors. South west Waters largest investor at one time was Rank Organisation. How crazy is that? Are the trains any better? Is energy any cheaper? Is BT really interested in your telephone (you have to email a phone company to get in touch or complain)?

My Grandfather went to 11 away games in the 1951-52 season, he was also a shareholder......that must put me in group 1 doesn't it?
  16. 2 points
Which is especially weird as he has generally been very good at getting strong fees for our players. I can't think of a single player we've sold where I've thought 'that's cheap' at the time.

Getty Oil sold its oil reserves to Texaco in 1984. Selling Maddison basically allowed us to keep the club afloat and rebuild the squad for Farke to achieve promotion, it was incredibly important to us and we should always be grateful. I hope he does well at Spurs. I struggle to see why Mount is valued at so much more, I think they're both free agents next summer. I know it comes down to supply & demand but I still can't see it.
  19. 2 points
Yeah I can't imagine you'd get sell on %'s of sell on %'s. Would be very odd.

It speaks for itself. Championship promotion going onto Premier League survival for a newly-promoted side are huge achievements. Failing to keep up already failing sides when coming in part way through a season doesn't negate that, however much people like to pretend. He is clearly a decent manager as far as people who are involved in actually running football clubs are concerned or he wouldn't keep getting jobs at Premier League and Championship level.
  21. 2 points
What ever the system chosen, there’s always going to be winners and losers in certain situations. Personally, I’ve always been of the opinion that the match pick proposal was always a bit of a sop, following the previous version and typically unnecessary, especially in the Championship, with the exception of Ipswich game.
  22. 2 points
Well that would be Webber's fault wouldn't it? It was marketing as being open to the public. If he didn't know that then that is on him. The people running it marketed it as an 'openclass' that anyone can attend. Heck there is a link to go view it now if you want to, that they are also promoting. Seriously the lengths some will go to to defend this man is beyond me.

This feels..hyperbolic. Some people seem to want to assign some great significance to a man who was responsible for two great seasons and one awful one. There is a curious amount of people who at times appear to be more Daniel Farke fans than Norwich City ones.

For what it's worth, I agree. But the wider fanbase didn't at the time. Every poll online suggested fans felt we had to move on from Farke after a diabolical start to another Premier League campaign. It was spoken about in the stands after most home games. Don't forget, those home games at the start of the season included: 3-0 Home loss to Liverpool 2-1 Home Loss to Leicester 1-0 Home Loss to Arsenal 3-1 Home Loss to Watford 0-0 Home Draw to Burnley 0-0 Home Draw to Brighton 2-1 Home Loss to Leeds In between those were 7-0 away loss to Chelsea, 5-0 to Man City, 2-0 to Everton... We can pretend all we like but we'd seen 3 goals at home vs 11 conceded. The end of every match in the Lower Barclay people were bemoaning the clubs lack of ambition and that's why we'd stick with Farke.. Of course, we didn't... For what it's worth, fans not being able to enjoy the previous title win because of Covid would surely have had an impact on patience as it's not the same experience. I'm also not 100% convinced we'd have been any better off for having kept Farke.

Growing up in rural Norfolk with no siblings or parental interest in football I fairly randomly chose Liverpool as ‘my’ team. Went away to uni and felt the pull of pride for my homeland and a realisation that I had a connection with my city in my county. Success or no success if felt like I was able to be a ‘supporter’ rather than just a ‘fan’. Those lucky to have a hereditary influence saw the light sooner than I, but I got there by 18 and decades later don’t regret the parochial pride one bit. OTBC TID

I guess some just don't have it in their souls Parma. I didn't choose to become Norwich City fan, Norwich City choose me. I certainly wasn't attracted by the glamour because in one of my earliest seasons we finished stone last in the old Division 3 South., had to apply for re-election and nearly went out of business. Survive that and you can survive anything. I am reminded of friend from my youth. We both loved football and played the game together at an amateur level. For some reason he became Liverpool fan when they were in their pomp in the 1970's. Yes, I could appreciate their quality but it used to stick in my craw when he would refer to them as "We". With both of us being Norwich born and bred it puzzled me, I couldn't see where that conection came from. For me it is part of my identity as a Norwich person and not something I can just discard when times are bad. There have been many moments of pride and achievement over my lifetime but the style and togertherness of the Farke years was something I had never experienced before. I am not ashamed to say that I think I will always miss it.

Maybe 2017/2018 Webber with a fair wind and a dollop of transfer good fortune is more difficult to replace Webber of recent seasons is a total bust. “Backbeat , the word is on street that the fire in your heart is out”. Nothing lasts forever and that includes Webber. He outperformed for 2-3 years then regressed dramatically to the long term mean as all unsupportable trends do. 2020s Webber as far as recruitment and comms is concerned is replaceable by Blind Pew with a pin

I'm afraid that I have to disagree with this analysis. I won't pretend to speak for all Norwich City fans but i would be very surprised if my view is minority one. There is something far more important than winning football matches and it shocks me that you should think otherwise. Many years back at the end of a dreadful season that ended in relegation I was trudging up King St with my dear late son Neil. After a long period on silence I tentatively ventured to suggest we might save ourselves further pain and chuck our season tickets in. He literally stopped in the street and lectured me about the reasons we were Norwich City supporters and that we would always go to Carrow Rd regardless of what division we were in. When I thought about it I knew he was right, he had the knack of putting things into perspective. Of course we want to be successful and enjoy our triumphs but it goes much much deeper than this. It is about making memories, a sense of pride in our city and our community and the joy that shared experiences can bring. I know it, my son knew it and I sincerely believe that every true NCFC fan feels the same. Our fortunes may fluctuate, Owners, Managers and Our footballing hero's may change but they are not Norwich City Football Club. We are.

Yes. Why can't we be more like Derby, Hull, Cardiff, WBA, Swansea, Huddersfield, Blackpool, Wigan, Stoke etc. This 'living within our means' has cost us, whereas those clubs have been a roaring success.

I went to the last one before the fence was put up and it was a really horrible experience and not just because of the mud. Mugging, burglary, fights, car break ins etc. I don't think it would exist if they carried on in that way. Admittedly I feel it has gone too far the other way, being very sanitised, a bit like modern football in some respects, but it is better than where it was headed.

So £40m it is then… anticlimactic but could have been worse if he’d left on a free one day a la Tielemans. So what’s the sell on clause then? 10%/15%? On profit or total fee? Either way, that’s one punt from South America or something to add to the kitty.

Tottenham are a far bigger club than Leicester. Massive move for a player like Maddison in his prime. London, 60,000 crowds every home match and in the best stadium in England.

Please explain how we've got it all wrong oh wise one. And thirsty with hatred? I'm not the one calling others idiots for posting a publicly available quote. If you believe Ben Marshall was signed because of his 'exceptional physical data' then I don't know what to tell you.
  39. 1 point
Sure, seems I'm the only one who remembers Ben Marshall and the club having to terminate his contract as unable to get his head into gear to play. But PP fits the narrative better, so carry on all.

If I understand Parma correctly, he is saying that a policy of 'letting the managers manage', allied to Webber's 'obsession and ambition', led to the railroading through of a terrible decision that has dragged the club down ever since (apologies if I've misunderstood, but Parma will soon correct me if I have or if my reading of the situation is too simplistic). In many ways, D & M seem the wrong kind of bosses for someone like Webber. He needs strong bosses who can slap him down occasionally and put him in his place, not bosses who idolise him (he can manage that by himself). As a result, that threat of self-destruction that seems to lurk within Webber came to pass, and the footballing identity on the pitch which he had been a vital part of building was collateral damage. As I've said before, he's history now. He just needs to leave asap so that we can start building again.

£40million for Maddison seems like an absolute bargain to me. Can’t believe that other clubs were not interested at that price. Man Utd failed with a £55m bid for Mount. Maddison is just as good if not better in my opinion.

How do the add ons work for us in a deal like this. Say there’s 10 million worth of add ons do we get our % when Leicester receive theirs ?

Huge kudos there, Botty, yet more brilliance - there seems no limit to your enviable capabilities. Despite years of effort I have never mastered the elusive art of typing with a spoon. Not even close. I suspect I'm not alone.....
  46. 1 point
Webber said he didn't want to name the player but went on to mention how much he cost and the length of his deal, basically making it very easy for anyone with google to figure out. Bizarre to blame the person reporting back what our Sporting Director is saying publically but not the Sporting Director himself for saying it.
  47. 1 point
Well that is the loan paid off then..........

Another club have signed a player that Webber decided against making a move for. Things don't have to make sense for it to be a stick to beat Webber with.

It's ridiculous that we're limited on capacity even now. Huge catchment area. Potentially a fantastic multi purpose stadium for not just football but beyond. I get it, the investment wouldn't be returned for at least a decade on face value but it would potentially unlock more lucrative non football events such as concerts and dare I even say future sporting events due to the fact that nothing else is close in this part of the country.

That doesn't sound like a fun experience. Have been a couple of times but only after the fence went up. Was never into the main stage stuff and found most fun was to be had in wandering round the smaller stages and discovering new bands. As a festival it is still very different to any others in the UK which are always separate arenas where you're forced to drink whatever terrible overpriced alcohol is sold and can't even take water or food into it. With Glastonbury, once you're in you're in and it makes for a much more relaxed experience.
