Cantwell was stunning on occasions yesterday. His shooting was the opposite on the day. He is our hardest working player, imo. He was everywhere and involved throughout. It was he who put Pukki through for the super save their 'keeper had to make. The last player we need to scapegoat. I guessed the critics were baying when, during the interval yesterday, one comment/type in from, I believe a lady supporter, asked the question, "Why is Cantwell on the pitch?" Risible, they always need one.

As a teacher, I can honestly say that you should be pointing your anger towards Gavin Williamson and the Department for Education. Teachers are currently unable to plan anything in advance because those inept **** keep changing the guidance every 5 minutes. There have been 5 versions of "guidance" since Thursday. How the **** can any of us organise anything when they don't tell us what we're meant to be organising? If the work sent home continues to be **** then by all means make complaints and contact your MP - schools have a duty in law now to provide 4 hours at least of education per day and your child is entitled to receive that, but cut them some slack until Tuesday, give us chance to put things in place. I will also point out that remote education is not just a pain in the **** for parents. Teachers hate it. All of us. Without exception. Nobody chose to become a teacher to sit in front of a screen all day. I won't be invoking Section 44 which is what the unions are telling us to do, because I don't feel like it's the right thing to do at this point.... but I entirely sympathise with colleagues who has. Teachers want schools open, but we want them open safely. Schools are not safe. For the staff and for the kids. The government have consistently failed to provide support for online learning. The "laptop delivery" they promised ended up delivering pretty much **** all. I know schools who ordered 188 laptops to allow all their kids to access online learning. Guess how many they received? One. One solitary laptop. The sensible solution would have been blended learning and rota system for face to face from September. That would allow smaller class sizes for proper distancing, regular face to face teaching for all. That requires government support to provide laptops and broadband for those that can't access it. The government have consistently failed to support any sensible solutions. Other countries have managed it perfectly fine. My school are working on the basis of lessons set every day online, according to timetables, and every lesson should have a video attached to it, either of the full lesson, key points or instructions (at teacher discretion as per appropriate for lesson). Gavin Williamson is literally the worst education secretary in history. Gove was bad, but at least competent. His ideas were ****e but at least he had the nous to implement them. Williamson is incompetent to the highest degree, has no ideas and no idea how to implement them.

Horrendous mismanagement by the government but also an absolutely staggering level of wilful ignorance and selfishness from so many. The impact of decisive, strict, informed government, and an understanding populace is stark in those places that have so far dealt with it successfully.

Most likely. Or they could start stripping knighthoods from tax avoiders and actually start collecting tax from the super rich and multinational corporations, take some of the burden off of the middle classes and British SMEs. I suppose that is far too sensible a proposition.
  5. 4 points
Concentration camps? Grow up. Only China fits that bill. Australia, Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, South Korea, New Zealand. All have dealt with it very efficiently and successfully. The UK hasn't.

If the virus is so serious can anyone explain why most of our modern clean surgeries have been closed over the weekend for two days. There have been plenty of volunteers with previous vaccination experience who would have been quite willing to assist. Numerous people would have been quite happy to deal with admin parking etc. Quiet two days for car owners to bring in the elderly. (OK some slight risk in this). We need to get a grip sooner rather than later. To help NHS I see no reason why everyone should not pay a fiver for the vacc.

It’s scary if you believe every positive COVID test is actually a positive test, if you believe every case is an actual case and every death is a death from COVID. I follow all the rules carefully as I believe the virus exists but I am highly sceptical about the numbers we are fed and I trust very little that the government or mainstream media tells us.

Given the awful refereeing performances of late, how about some appreciation for today's ref. I thought he had a very good game, and was almost anonymous (as it should be). Can't remember him giving a decision I didn't agree with.
  12. 3 points
The double dragback pivot thing he did to get out of trouble and start an attack was incredibly skillful. If that had been done by Buendia everyone would be going crazy. He has the ability to be one of our best ever; just needs more belief.
  13. 3 points
Ughhhh. How about you save those kind of remarks until something actually happens? I thought maybe some posters would reign it in a bit after the fantastic job the club did in keeping Buendia, Aarons and Cantwell over the summer - in spite of everyone hurling abuse at the club for a lack of ambition and poor ownership before they had even sold anyone! But no, same old same old... just can’t wait to stick the knife in. You know the club aren’t responsible for transfer rumours right? I just don’t understand how these kind of comments are remotely fair? Also what does a ‘history of selling our best players mean’, please can you explain this statement and how it applies particularly to our club over other clubs? Because I think literally every club in England or our size in a similar position and face the same issues. And not even a comment on the last window where we kept our 2 best prospects (Max and Emi) from last season??? Where’s the credit for that? Just don’t get it.

I was gutted for Todd at his misses. If he'd have tapped in that low cross and then finished either of his one on one chance or the one Pukki put on for him, he'd be receiving similar plaudits to what Buendia is receiving today. He tracked back well, won possession several times, went on a handful of successful runs, beating several players in the process. The only thing missing from his performance was a goal or two. The annoying thing is, had he not been as on it yesterday as he was, he'd never have been in a position to miss those relatively straightforward chances. If he was playing bad and not getting any chances, maybe I'd be grumbling but as it is, he's playing well and getting chances. Yesterday he just couldn't finish them and anyone who has ever played the game knows that if you miss an easy chance, the next one you get is that bit harder. If you miss two, then the third gets even more difficult. That was the case for Todd yesterday, he just had a mare in front of goal but every other part of his game was brilliant. Given his lack of game time so far this season, he is one of the few players I would keep in the lineup for the FA Cup game. Without Emi's awesomeness having a potentially overshadowing impact, I think Todd will step up and be our go-to attacking outlet and probably get a goal. Hopefully that will kick him on to get more clinical in the league.

We had all this b*llocks in August and September though, with loads of posts bleating about how we were going to sell all five of our crown jewels, blah blah blah. Just calling this out now before it gets started in earnest. The only way anyone will leave in this window is if they throw their toys out the pram and demand a move, and only then if we get some serious dollar. Of the three, I think Cantwell is the only one whose sale I would accept, as he only has 18 months left on his contract and may have indicated he doesn't want to sign a new one. Even so, I'm supremely confident in saying that none of those three will be sold in this window.

‘I bet our win ratio is worse with Cantwell in it’ *Shows stats which show win ratio significantly better with Cantwell in the team* ‘But he gives the ball away too much’ *Shows stats which show he doesn’t give the ball away more than our other midfielders* ‘But he gives it away... differently’...
  18. 2 points
He doesn't give the ball away too much. This season hes given the ball away less than Vrancic Mclean Buendia Placheta Stiepermann Sorensen And a load more others. Look up the stats its there for all to see. My suggestion would be to stop seeing what you want to see 🙃

We are doing a good job, just Johnson has over promised. This is a race the ‘ world ‘ needs to win, it’s not a battle against each other. India have today approved 2 vaccines ( one of them Oxford AstraZeneca and an Indian one ), and the Serum Institute will be supplying 60% of the world, in 2 months they will be producing 300 million doses a month and increasing.

To answer your question on Cantwell in the OP. Games started: 12 Won: 8 Drawn: 3 Lost: 1 Win ratio: 67% Win or draw ratio: 92% Games not in starting team: 11 Won: 6 Drawn: 2 Lost: 3 Win ratio: 55% Win or draw ratio: 73% So looks like the results show the exact opposite of what you wanted them too! But I think we all recognise how much stronger we look in attack with Buendia / Cantwell / Pukki all interlinking and on the same wavelength... Well at least most of us do anyway 😆 Source: https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/todd-cantwell/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/332341/saison/2020/wettbewerb/GB2/verein/1123

Got to say, Branston, and just my feeling anyway, but I think we’re probably going to be in a lockdown closer to March than November. Can’t see pubs etc being open for at least 2 months or so. I can honestly say I’ve been as careful as I can possibly be, but I’ve been given a positive test result yesterday. The symptoms take you all over the place, one moment nothing, the next moment BAM! I’ve worn a mask at all times when out and about, but what do you do when people escape a tier 4 to the likes of this area (tier 2 over Christmas so nice enticing pubs for them), and these visitors just come and stand right next to you in a shopping aisle without as much as a mask. It’s a nightmare, and one thing I’ve learnt in 2020 was how many people have zero respect for others at all - it’s quite staggering. Of course, a mask is not there to ensure you won’t catch it, it just means if you cough that the particles won’t carry the distance that they would unguarded and therefore they at least help prevent transmission, even if it is to only a slightly lesser degree. Hard lockdown coming I think, possibly even the hardest we’ve had to date. What this will mean for the football, I do not know.

We are now paying the price for weak indecisive leadership from govt pre Christmas. Utter shambles. Worst case scenario it de-rails or delays vaccine rollout. Schools, Covid's breeding ground will have to remain closed for a while. From a football perspective I like to think that if the season is temporarily halted it will help us. Some of our boys need to recharge their batteries.

Love watching him play, the sort of player that can set a game alight, with the added bonus that he’s a local lad.

He is very good, the only one I would say I have seen who was (in my opinion) better was Ruel Fox, I guess it is a matter of opinion and how long we have been watching. Todd is technically very good.

This is an unprecedented situation, a team winless going into the new year with only 2 points. Add to that it’s a team we’ve had a little rivalry with over the last few seasons and is simply another enjoyable distraction from the increasingly gloomy situation escalating in the world. I enjoy opinion about anything football (and numerous other topics too) and as this is one of the few forums I’m a member of, want it to continue to discuss as wider range of topics as possible.

Nothing has surprised me here about this WBB. Somehow the administration is in a kind of campaign mode (despite such a majority). It seems it is so nervous of itself that it becomes ultra defensive, which leads to exaggeration and triumphalism (the more a person shouts the emptier s/he is inside) as well as covering its own back. It needs more of a administrative, stick-to-the-facts style of government and then it will build trust of the vast majority. Very few people expect miracles. I'm sure they'll get there. I'm a bit worn down with the promising and posturing of it I will confess.

Done for you Franko. With one caveat , it wasnt 'everyone' hurling abuse at the Club, just the usual suspects that have little or no grasp on what the Club is striving to achieve. They are beyond contempt and below ridicule.

I think Marcus Rashford is a superb role model. There are probably others doing their bit for society but your average numpty footballer is more of a Kyle Walker than a Marcus Rashford. I hope any of our lot flouting the rules are treated harshly by the club.

Todd is the most naturally gifted player to come through the academy in my time as a supporter.

But the leaders and role models need to set an example. Cummings was the first, but plenty of politicians, celebs and sports stars flouting the rules since. The youngster say "if xyz does it, why can't I?"

We could get 50m for Emi which we contractually couldn't reject because it activated a clause in his contract and some on here would have a party and dance about the fact they've got an angle to criticise a board that proves them wrong at every turn. Many on this forum told me our board would sell all our young players in the summer for the first offer received etc etc....geniuses, the lot of 'em

The reason Quintilla isn't playing at the moment is because Sorenson has done superbly at left back and is fully deserving of his place in the side.

I was under the impression Hugill stalled at West Ham because Pelligrini came in soon after he was signed by Moyes. I still think Hugill is being judged from scraps of evidence since he’s been here, whereas Soto would benefit enormously from playing regularly somewhere over here (League One I suspect) for the rest of this season. I think we’ll have a better idea of what he can do from that.

It's on iplayer. And it's as fantastic as ever. No Monsieur Le Juge of course, which is a loss, but the complex interactions between the various components of the French justice system are as good as ever (& the politicians possibly more corrupt than ours). And the Paris depicted is a million miles from the usual glamorous metropolis. No attempt to sidestep the immigration problem either. Yet the characters are so well drawn, mostly empathetic; flawed people trying to do their best in a flawed world. And I adore the French language. Utterly brilliant!

I actually think some are rather desperate for us to sell players just so they can have the satisfaction of being “right”. In the real world, everyone - and that means everyone at every club - has a price. We aren’t under pressure to sell in terms of finances, but there’s more to it than that. Should anyone leave, for me it is then more down to what’s done to maintain the overall strength of the squad that I’ll be interested in, rather than the weird notion that some seem to have in that holding onto disgruntled players leads to a successful side.

There's more with Buendia. More natural talent, more in the locker. And he puts it in for the team. As good as it gets in a Norwich City shirt.
