I don't think there's ever been a soft Championship. Apart from when we've won it, obviously.

It's a terrific opportunity for her. I would be inviting him every week. Ratings could only soar.

For me it would have to be Kevin Keelan a loyal servant for SEVENTEEN years as a player here and our record appearance maker turning out 673 times.

Number 20. Carlo Nash. This is the way. Plus it would mean Drmic has no shirt number so would just have to leave.

So LDC has a moan about Liverpool who have just won the League by a mile. Meanwhile, he only has praise for the Club that is currently 75 points behind them.

Bit harsh. He's unemployed and an employer in his local area is thinking about giving him a job.

I have heard a number of people argue that even though we don't have a lot of money, if we had just gambled on 15-20 million this season we would have had a chance. I think people are really overestimating what that kind of money gets you, especially being a Premiership team. If you take a look on Wikipedia at say Southampton, Brighton, Wolves, Burnley, West Ham, Bournemouth, Sheffield Utd and review their squad, you will see that they have a number of players who were bought for £10-18 million. A number of them aren't really setting the league alight. Trust me, you will be surprised at just how many there were. Once you factor in signing on bonus, wages, agent fees etc 15 million is about right for one Premiership player. The Murphy brothers have had no impact on this league at all and they were near this figure. Things have changed over the last 5 -10 years. You aren't going to out scout other Premiership teams, if someone is good and available we would face competition meaning a bidding war. Add to the fact that teams see the Premiership as a cash cow. The richest league in the world means you have to pay premium because... you billionaires can afford it. Truthfully, were we one quality player away from survival? No we were well short unfortunately. Also what is the impact of someone joining on 60k when everyone else is on 15k? Could it have changed how much players were asking for when we renewed their contracts last summer? My opinion is, while it is frustrating to admit, we had to do what was right for the club long term and that was to not overstretch again at a point when we had made so much progress in recovering from past mistakes.

Chris Martin would be a good option if we needed another bollard for the car park but I'd imagine a concrete post would be cheaper.

No one is afraid of the truth, the virus is having a disproportionate effect on some groups but you'll forgive those who read into your recent messages an accusatory tone. Whats this got to do with voting patterns though? If you can't back it up dont waste people's time with it. If you can back it up then you should add to the debate here.

Pleased to see Hughton back in management. Although some of the football under him here was turgid, he never deserved the tirade of abuse he got when he was sacked (and still receives by some on this forum). He always conducts himself with great dignity and has a high level of respect within the game. Whether he can push Bristol City up a level to get in the play offs / automatic is another matter of course but only a fool would back against that. Another club who could be very dangerous next season is Stoke who have finished very strongly and a good manager in charge. Fully expect them to make a charge.

Mate, it was Til who went and messaged the Adam chap (who started the banner idea) about me posting on here, which they now think is me reporting it to 'the media' and i'm now a mole or something or other. I'm shocked it started with Til 😅 I think that's why that Adam chap now responds to every comment I make on the fan group with "mole c*nt" etc etc. Priceless. They should be thanking me for the exposure. Then again getting less than £200 out of the £1000 or so they needed for the banner suggests it's not quite according to plan.

How could you possibly know that we want £25m for Cantwell? You seem guilty of reading over many PinkUn evaluations. For a youngster (very) he has also achieved quite a bit at the highest level. Are you yet another binner? They seem to abound on here since our relegation and it's always detectable by bitter, sour grape type comments. I'm no Matthew Hopkins, but my sense of smell hasn't deserted me.

If we had spent £35 million on Duda and Amadou at the start of the season and we were likely relegated all the same (based on the impact both players had) everybody would be grumbling that our recruitment is crap. As it happens, we've been relegated and everybody is grumbling that our recruitment is crap- but we're £35 million better off. Football is a sport of passion and excitement. The majority will never be comfortable with a self-aware, sensibly cautious approach because it goes against the emotion of the game.

Not one of ours but I couldn't fail to notice how pleased Scott is to extend his contract. 🙂 In case you missed it. Forward Scott Quigley, last season’s leading scorer, has extended his contract with Barrow until June 2023. https://bbc.in/3fRFJIE Photo: @BarrowAFC

Fair points. It'll be interesting to see to what extent Farke is prepared to change it up based on the harsh lessons from this season. I love the guy, but he does seem pretty strongly wedded to his style of football. I'd love to see him develop more tactical weapons in his arsenal, rather than just expecting to walk the league again playing the exact same formation and style that worked last time. A little bit of contingency planning will go a long way to securing us promotion.

The issue for Pukki this season is simply that the bulk of our possession has been in our own half which has meant that neither Cantwell nor Buendia have been able to deliver the volume of line breaking passes they did last season because they are back helping out defensively. For Pukki to be effective we need a platform of possession in the opponents half in order for Cantwell and Buendia to work their magic. We've rarely had that. Pukki is good at running into spaces on angled runs to through balls and most of this is from short passes in and around the box. Secondly we have lacked an effective number 10 who would be another supply line to our striker. Thirdly, opposition coaches are wise to how we play and in the Premiership they are much more astute tactically and the defensive manpower is of a far higher quality. Most negate Pukki by isolating him mainly by pressing us high. They know Pukki is our main goal threat and they prepare for him specifically. Once teams had worked us out we had no real plan B. We had to play through the press which did work sometimes but it always takes a lot of passes to move the ball from one end of the pitch to the other and each pass risks a turnover in possession. Without the ball most sides we played had the quality to play around our press and as a result we rarely won ball in the opponents half. Eventually teams worked out that they could just throw numbers forward against us as West Ham did. It looks like Farke is well aware of all of these issues, firstly because he's been toying with 442 which that means opponents have less manpower to commit to the press and his other solution is different players- Sorensen for example has a good record for long passing and Placheta has a lot of pace which will give us more options against the high press because of the threat of the ball over the top. The big question is who our number 10 will be. We have the scope to be a much more effective attacking force this season than we were when we went up last year because a season of Premiership football has forced us to address these points. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. The solution isn't to replace Pukki the solution is to beat the press and get Pukki into the game by not to allowing the opposition to keep him at arms length. I expect us to score more goals this year than we did in our last Championship season. Other teams are going to hate playing us.

Depends how you define poor. There's only three? teams there who've never been in the top flight, a former premier League winner, plus at least one other first division winner (I suspect a couple more have but I'm not bored enough to look it up) As well as European and English cup winners. It will be tough from the start. Well be ok tho. Or at least up for the challenge.

If that's your bag buddy - you might want to look into unrecognised countries too. Transnistria is apparently like going back to before the Iron Curtain fell - hammer and sickle everywhere etc (or so says Simon Reeve when I went to see him give a talk last year). https://theculturetrip.com/europe/georgia/articles/top-10-unrecognised-countries-and-how-to-visit-them/

I agree- but I'm constantly confused by the fact people bring up Naismith every time someone mentions spending more, as if they believe Webber would have bought us a bunch of duds on large contracts we couldn't shift. To your initial £20m extra spend point- I partially agree that is likely wouldn't have kept us up but we don't know for sure. What we do know is the approach we took played a large part in giving us one of the worst seasons in my living memory. What I also believe is that if you'd have given Webber £20/30m to spend he'd have spent it wisely enough that we wouldn't be staring administration in the face due to those deals.

Yep, everywhere has issues, but you're right, this particular issues is embedded anywhere religion still has a strong grasp. Look at the bible belt in the USA, Australia still has a lot of tolerance issues for a developed country, most Islamic countries and you find similar attitudes. I find Poles are quite cold until you get to know them, and then are incredibly hospitable when you do.
  37. 1 point
Unfortunately true, although there seems to be movement in a positive direction - Duda (very homophobic and right wing) just won the Polish election, but only 51-49 against Trzakowski who is incredibly liberal by Polish standards and campaigned openly for LGBTQ+ rights. That's a big jump for a very conservative country like Poland, so hopefully there will continue to be positive movement.

Did you happen to see what the Romanian FA have made him do as punishment for his comments along the lines of "Women have no place in football"? He got a 4 month suspension, think he got a fine too, and he is being forced to set up a women's team🤣

The proof of tre pudding will be just as much as the waistline expands ie.the cost and value for money,. I have always been excited and somewhat positive about these signings since the days of Drazan Musinic. How OTT was that hype? Some clearly fail, but I remain happy with this deal.

I know a bit (only a bit) about chess. It was banned during the Cultural Revolution and afterwards there was a determined push to promote the game and make a mark on the international scene. From not being a serious force at all China now has three players in the top 20 men's list and five in the top 15 for women and has won two the the last three world team men's championships.

Precisely. Most of that cannot be disputed by the rational supporter. Btw. I never said that Toney would be £5m. Looking back to my posting I put : "-£5m Ivan Toney from Peterborough." ie.Less than £5m. Probably quite a bit less with add-ons. I have heard and seen (limited) such good things about him that he is just the type of player that our history suggests we take a risk with. There may be others around, of course.

Personally I think if the shutdown had not happened we would be where Villa are now.
  45. 1 point
Villa did make it to a Wembley final this season and they beat us twice. They must have a fair chance of surviving on the last day whereas we have known our fate for weeks. Good luck to Villa. Somebody was brave and took a huge gamble. Whereas we spent pennies and Wycombe Wanderers will now have a fixture at Carrow Road next season.

No, what it indicates is that they have stuck to their word. It has to be in the best interests of the club - not their bank balance In a football world swamped with shysters and dodgy money men it is reassuring to know that we have decent folk at the helm, and those not willing to allow said ' shysters and dodgy money men ' anywhere near the club
