4 pointsGot sent this today. What a cracker! Don't think I've ever started a thread before. Cherry popped.

3 pointsWho remembers the Kingsway? For the younger ones, it was on the junction of Bracondale, King St and Carrow Road. I can't remember the name of the pub on the other side of the junction

3 pointsThe Tour de France attracts the highest live attendance of any sporting event. Cycling is hugely popular around the world which totally baffles me as most of them seem to be on drugs. Quite impressive really, when I was on drugs I couldn't even find my bike

3 pointsPoor Oakeshott, her night was ruined. We used to rule the waves, now, due to an act of self harm we are forced to waive the rules.

3 pointsNot long back from the Aveyron in France . Had these gorgeous Swallowtail butterflies in the meadow below house . A few years since I’ve seen them in Norfolk .

2 pointsIt is a recognition of the reality that we are not at the top of the football food chain, even if we are in the Premier League, so really talented players, which Rowe might turn out to be, will sooner of later want to move on. In percentage terms there are very few clubs for whom this is not true. The upside, from which we frequently benefit, is that we are closer to the top of this chain than the bottom.

2 pointsI'm somewhere in the crowd right behind the goal as a 14 year old kid, knew that was in as soon as he hit it, had the perfect view.
-
2 pointsI cant really see that happening although personally seeing how angry posters on here would get over such a thing, I'd welcome it.
-
2 pointsI'm sorry, but whilst he picks Maguire over one of Serie A's best centre-halves, he has no right to complain about his lack of defensive talent. I saw a tweet yesterday that said something along the lines of "subbing off Bellingham whilst Jordan Henderson is still on the pitch at 1-1 tells you everything you need to know about Southgate's management". The fact that the above doesn't instantly will the most stupid Southgate act award as there are myriad other examples is damning. He's such a poor coach.
-
2 pointsI'll say this: Southgate has to be careful with opposition teams simply as England's defenders are not up to it at the highest levels. That's one thing Southgate, a cultured and classy centre-half in his own right in an England shirt, appreciates from experience far more than most. If he went gung-ho with that England squad, you'd end up with a load of Norwich performances in the top flight from Farke's first go, possibly with a bit more counter-attacking. Look dangerous going forwards, but would be easily opened up. Prime example, that 5-3 win against Kosovo, who are a very average side in the UEFA scheme of things. Play like that against France and it'd be men against boys.

2 pointsI reckon the Attannassios want to hold onto him as long as possible - possibly to deal with Jan window as well.

2 pointsSo what you're saying is that the DOF consulted with the manager he employed to determine the transfer policy. What a B******.

2 pointsNot sure about that…. Wagner has to keep his players on board with kind words but when your 2-1 down to ‘Rotherham’ (no disrespect meant) and needing a change of approach, some creativity, something to make a difference and you don’t throw Nunez on, that begs questions about how influential Nunez is considered at this level and it doesn’t bode well for him.

2 pointsThe comment comes up that England look a bit scared to attack. Problem was, they faced a Ukraine side at "home" who are excellent counter-attackers and indeed got a goal off one. On top of that, England have very little top-drawer quality in defence - a lot of solid Premier League pros but not much genuinely better than that. Same with defensive midfield (Bellingham isn't a defensive midfielder for me, he should be a bit further forward), and in goal. In fact, I'd even argue there's not much depth up top beyond Kane and to a lesser extent Rashford at the moment. There's plenty of firepower in theory as England have a veritable gaggle of very good attacking midfielders, but the foundations behind it aren't quite strong enough so England can't go gung-ho. Prime example of when Southgate got this right was the 2-0 win against Germany in the Euros. Germans were excellent on the counter, so England hogged the ball after initial problems, then managed to work it accurately enough into the gaps to get the chances, converted one and then posed Germany the question of "can you get on the front foot against us now?" You don't attack teams set up to counter. You try to draw them out. England lacked that yard of precision and pace in their passing to consistently put a well-organised Ukrainian defence under steady pressure. When that happens, too many players start coming forward trying to force the issue, and then the counter is on when the ball is lost. We suffered that enough even with Farke's best teams.

1 pointBrilliant thread! So many memories. The bridge used to open a lot and Nortwich was quite a busy port. My nan used to have her hair done on Thorpe Road and while she was there my grandad would take me to have a look at what was gorn on up riverside. The big ships would be there with cranes unloading often timber but coal too. The ships would then turn where the wide corner bit of the river is. (I guess it has a name!) and the bridge would go up to let them back. I always hoped the bridge would be up... I've got lots of pictures but can never find them (not mine but pics I've saved for reminiscnce.) There is this one.. And this link has some great 'then and now' pictures... https://www.broadlandmemories.co.uk/thenandnow4.html

1 pointYes it was, that was where the Harbourmaster lived. As kids we were often shouted at to stop whatever it was we were doing, from swimming off the Kingsway Caves to skimming stones and hitting the coasters moored along the river. Just down the river from the bridge next to the Queen of Iceni, going towards the Nelson is where the coasters used to turn round to head back towards Yarco........

1 pointIt's not 'rule Britannia, Britannia rules the waves' it's 'rule, Britannia, Britannia rule the eaves!' The lyricist is exhorting the government to invest in naval power so that Britons will not be slaves. As you quite rightly say it was written and a time when being taken into slavery was a valid fear for coastal Britons and a subject of national interest (for instance the 1751 book 'The History of the Long Captivity and Adventures of Thomas Pellow in south barbary'). History of the Long Captivity and Adventures of Thomas Pellow in South-Barbary. It was also just after the Dutch stopped handing out regular spankings to the British, Like they did at sole bay. the more modern interpretation that this is boastful jingoism came later, when britannia did rule the waves, but that was long after slavery was abolished in the Empire and the navy was employed making sure that everyone else did it too.

1 pointFor starters I’m one of the most critical posters of the current owners if you really care to read back over the years, their constant dismissal of any potential new owners have been frustrating and those who say there weren’t any buyers I question that as other clubs have changed hands. Secondly we have had a three year stint in the top flight in the last 20 years so that point is mute! Premier is a tough stay ask Fulham, Burnley, Watford, WBA etc….there’s loads of clubs whose fans can ask the same! Like it or not the current set up have control on how things go, the additional shares have been made available without these it would be near impossible for anyone to gain that 30% trigger needed, so as much as criticism can be aimed at the current owners the fact is they have made the club available, for a fee that means they don’t take a huge profit out of the club as they’ve stated in the past! As frustrating as it is we’ve had seven seasons at the top flight in the 26 years so really not that bad when you look at clubs bigger than ours still struggling to get up! As for selling our Crown Jewels, I’ve been watching since 1977 and we’ve always sold tue Crown Jewels from Bond days to Farke we have sold to survive no different in this current set up to the old days. I fully get the frustration of getting relegated and you can argue that which I fully back the last one getting rid of Farke for Smith was utterly stupid and one I was ultra critical at the time correctly so! Webber should have been sacked on our relegation along with Smith!

1 pointId say you are probably right ref his role at Bayern. Though in tougher European games I can see him dropping deeper now and again, we'll see in time.

1 pointThe Lambert years gave us two titles for starters and throw in a playoff final win as well all in recent memory.. I won't go too far back in history as that is beyond your remit.

1 pointThere was me thinking he was going to hold 40% alongside D&M jointly and all decisions are to be made jointly also something that never happened under Chase.

1 pointNeedless to say the last night is nothing like the proceeding concerts. Although not much into classical music (not brainy enough) I've been to a couple at the RAH and they are quite sedate affairs and really mainly for true music devotees. It is an experience I would recommend anybody to put on their list of 'things to do before I die.' The first time was a fabulous experience, the music, the orchestra, the setting will never be forgotten. Hearing a symphonic orchestra live for the first time is an exhilarating experience and was akin to hearing Led Zep. singing Kashmir live at Knebworth for me. You feel that you want to burst. Recommended. I watched most of last night's coverage and remember thinking that the number of EU flags on show was well down compared to the almost universal showing in the years immediately after the referendum and perhaps that a certain weariness was setting in.

1 pointIf it is agreed, he will be a joint majority shareholder won't he? Or his group will be. So what does t hat make him? People have called Delia "the owner" before, and she's not. She currently is joint majority shareholder. This is about as close to a takeover as you can get without someone having an overall majority. It's as good as. I would hasten to add that this is also looking very much like a handover period. Mr A gets two and a half years to operate within the club, make some tweaks and changes. Then in 2026 he can step in as the majority owner - though of course, it's a group rather than just him.

1 pointWow what a balanced response, it’s anytime after two years and a few months, and if you can read I never said for certain I said after….but with your constant need to find something to whine about you try and make your own narrative, but hey well done on your negativity, and as i pointed out the two relegations a number of times! But don’t let that distract from your whining! I don’t need to win the lotto each week I have all I want thank you, maybe if you learn to become content it might enrich your life!
-
1 pointSmall point. I didn't say forwards, I said attacking. All 4 that I mentioned are used in an attacking way by their clubs. It appears not by England though. It is no use just throwing on more forwards if there is no creativity behind them. Shades of Norwich under Smith?

1 point"......and The Nest eventually became a victim of their success. Promotion to the old Second Division in 1934 saw crowds rise exponentially. Then City hosted giants Sheffield Wednesday (kids, ask granny) in the fifth round of the FA Cup in February 1935. A record 25,007 crowd bundled in........" 25k at the Nest!!!😬

1 pointSmith & Jones history of their own financial support of the club and the Shareholder Agreement gives me some hope that Attanasio is not a Glazer type investor.

1 pointWe paid £40k for Martin Peters, one of our greatest players who played more than 200 games Probably less than the weekly wage of Gibson? That's as good as a free.

1 pointJust over a week for me..... but getting a bit hacked off because we don't seem to have bought anybody and we haven't been taken over...... probably go back to Chelsea on Sunday, there always something going on there 😊
