To me, this is the reason why James should not receive the vilification that Beckham did. Not because she's a woman, or because women's football is less important, or anything like that. Rather, we should recognise that the abuse Beckham got was completely disproportionate, we should learn from that and not inflict it on anyone else, male or female. Surely it should be possible to criticise James for something that was at best stupid and at worst malicious, note that she might well have cost her team the chance of progressing at a tournament, but then get off her back and allow her to learn from her mistake. As others have said, most of us probably did things at 21 we regret - we just had the benefit of not doing them on TV in front of millions of people.

I'd love it if one day the club took one of the fans up on the offer to drive a player to a destination themselves. It'd be a long and awkward journey, that's for sure... 🙂

Sorry if this has been posted already but found Rosenior's post match comments both interesting and enjoyable. Goalkeeper didn't time waste and it took him 15 seconds to distribute goal kick - ridiculous comment it took him more like 45 secs-1 min to distribute, quite rightly booked and quite rightly the time was added on Ball was in a dead zone when the defence dealt with the initial corner - I don't call the edge of the box the dead zone Ball was out of play, even I could see it from where I was - well maybe but the linesman is in line with play and its the whole ball that has to go out, fine margins Their bench were screaming time wasting - good I want us to be a little bit nasty and hard to play against, I'm sure Rosenior won't be the first or the last to come out I know Keith Stroud, he is a good referee and watched him when my Dad was playing - just about says it all really, doesn't it? I hope to see more manager's come out with their poor old us comments, shows our strength in character and new mentality this season, if we have annoyed a manager on Day 1, god forbid what we'll do when the season really gets going.

I can't remember an opening day quite like this one for weather. Usually the stands are a sea of yellow and green, bathed in the warm sunlight of high summer but today was more akin to a fairly drab day in early November. According to the Met Office radar there was a dry window at 2.15 just in time for me to bike off to CR. Unfortunately somebody closed the window and I was more than a bit damp upon arrival. The lad is away on his hols this weekend so my grand daughters husband took his seat today. In the past he's been a bit of a Jonah but he did see a couple of wins last year so he may have turned the corner at last. I normally watch at least one of the pre season games but to be honest I have had a job getting enthusiastic after last season and today was my first look at the new boys and the new formation. It was a lively start with City coming quickly forward down their left and as the ball ran across the edge of the River End box it was Sara who took a quick pot shot that was only two or three feet wide of Ingrams left post. It was immediately apparent that Wagner has asked for a much more up tempo game than last season and the forwards were soon adopting a very high press that Hull found difficulty dealing with. My early impressions were that Jon Rowe really looks like developing into a top talent and that with Jack Stacey at left back we are not going to miss Max Aarons all that much. Stacey looked solid with his defending and readily available when the ball was moved forward. Rowe looked beautifully balanced and with pace and trickery to match. This was richly displayed on ten minutes when he danced across the edge of the penalty area and skimmed a low shot back beyond Ingram and off the foot of the post. At this stage the home side looked well in command and we were just waiting for a chance to finally find the net but as was so often the case last season a moment of madness turned the game on its head. Duffy and Gibson got in a right old mess and between them they allowed Delap to nip in and hold off a defender before giving Gunn no chance. There were a few groans from the crowd who can be forgiven for a moment of Deja vu but the response from the team soon got them onside again. Rowe got away down the right but tried to dink the ball into the box and got a bit of an earfull from Ashley Barnes who was not too pleased and it was good to see that heads hadn't dropped. City piled forward with some nice quick passing and the visitors defence was all hands to the pump. Hernandez was unlucky to see a close range effort beaten away and Sargent should have won a free kick when obviously fouled just outside the box but Keith Stroud is nothing if not Keith Stroud. On the plus side he did book one or two when the fouls started to get out of hand. Duffy almost got on the scoresheet just before the half hour when he connected well with Sara's free kick but again the ball rebounded off the foot of the post and neither Barnes nor Sargent could convert. Then a lovely reverse pass from Rowe to Stacey ended when the full back blasted over from a narrow angle when a pull back was the correct course of action. I don't know what Barnes said but I bet it wasn't complimentary. Chances continued to come thick and fast and Hernandez should have done better than fire wildly over when the ball came back to him in a central postion 18 yards out. Then just before the break Sargent got on the end of a cross and appeared to nod the ball beyond Ingram from close range but somehow the Hull custodian stuck out an arm to palm it away, a quite brilliant save. That appeared to be that but in the dying embers of time added Gianoullis, I think it was, intercepted and sprung Rowe from the halfway line. He still had a lot to do but made ground quickly before curling a superb effort to the right of Ingram's despairing dive to send the home side in with a richly deserved equaliser. What a difference that made to the halftime mode around the ground, City had been totally dominant and could well have been two or three clear. Hull tightened things considerably when the second period ensued and chances came less frequently. There were calls for a penalty when a defender handled Rowes attempted cross but I couldn't really see from my end and with it being Keith Stroud it was pointless to get upset about it. A couple of corners resulted in headers skimming the bar but a City goal didn't seem to be coming. Indeed the best chance fell to Hull and only a superb finger tip save from Gunn kept things all square as the dangerous Delap pinged in a goalbound shot. from range. I was a bit concerned when Wagner made a mass change on seventy five minutes. Rowe and Sara departed to be replaced by Springett and Nunez but Omo came on for Gibson which was a plus and I think Rowe had taken a bit of a knock anyway. The game now seemed to be settling into a draw with neither side making real chances although Nunez did pull a good tip over out of Ingram with a twentyfive yarder as time ticked down. Here I must make a confession, I didn't see the winning goal. On ninety three minutes I reconciled myself to the draw and made a bolt for steps. I was unlocking my bike when the roar went up. Oh well, perhaps its a good omen and I should scoot out early every week from now on. I was more than a bit wet when I got home but it was worth the effort. Ricardo's verdict: I was pleasantly surprised at how well the new players fitted in and the new style is still quite pleasing on the eye when its played at pace. MOM Jon Rowe, he looks really special to me, lets hope he stays fit and it might be a good season after all.

it's been mentioned before, but as for the winner, the last Norwich player to touch the ball before Idah tapped it in was Nunez, and when he crossed it, Idah was still onside. The ball was then chested (badly) off a Hull defender, so he couldnt be offside. Goal. Deal with it Rosey jnr.

He's probably got a valid point here, as his line of sight was completely clear: If there was a player... or three, in the way, then you'd probably question his words.

It really strikes me as odd to sell a player because he only plays as wing back ... To then convert a winger to that position who is bound to play the position more like a wing back because he lacks the defensive nous to be a full back.

For my sins I took a look on the Hull supporters forum and for the most part they agreed that the result was a fair one on the balance of play. Most point to a pretty poor performance by their own team as being the reason and that the away result was no surprise against us as an expected top 6 team. So his comments are all really just self-preservation. There are a number of comments that Rosenior is running out off credit in the bank and the performances just haven't been good enough. This is probably the reason he's highlighting everything he can to take the spotlight off himself. Can't blame him.

If he thinks Keith Stroud is a good referee I’m worried he banged his head as he went down the tunnel on Saturday.

People say things when they’re angry which they don’t mean but you shouldn’t be immune from criticism based on whether you’re a man or a woman. I’m sure Lauren James will know herself what she has done and will face the consequences and come back a stronger player, Sabrina Weigmann doesn’t strike me as someone who would cast a player aside for an act of stupidity rather embrace it and work on how that player can move on from it

Football is a 90 minutes game, however teams were regularly wasting up to a third of that. Why not a happy compromise, go like rugby, the ref says stop clock and the clock stops, it also stops after a goal is awarded until it restarts and for the duration of all substitutions. Then full time is at the end of the phase of play when the click hits 90.

no this is great. Completely levels out all the time wasting, dark arts nonsense that has populated this league for the last few years. Wánkers like Gareth Ainsworth and his teams have perfected slowing the game down. I want entertainment It gives teams with better fitness an edge, we should be exploiting that

Totally agree with you - this should see a lot of timewasting ended, as sides know it’ll be added on. As it should always have been, of course. It seems some have become conditioned into acceptance that it’s ok to pay through the nose only to be short changed.

Come on Buh, England weren't brilliant but Nigeria are no pushovers, all they lacked was a decent striker. Their physicality (c.f. China for instance) made them really tough to beat, any side trying to play around them would struggle, England did okay to create so many chances. And Chloe Kelly, although her hold play was found wanting (probably because she was a sub trying to catch up with the pace and physicality of the game), has to be the coolest penalty taker in England!

The Athletic has basically become the thing it set out to destroy. Upon launch in this country the model was local coverage for PL clubs and a decent amount of the bigger championship ones. Since then they've been bought out by the New York Times and in both this country and the US have ditched the local model for a more traditional style of coverage. As a company they fall in line with a lot of other start ups we've seen over the last 10 years or so. They arrive with huge backing promising to completely upend the current status quo, all while using their financial backing to lower the prices for their product in order to boost the number of users. This leads to more funding and the cycle continues until eventually the backers turn around and say it's time for you to start turning profits now. That's when you see the sudden cutbacks and rise in prices.

No, FIFA rules are different. It is an automatic 1 match ban, although the disciplinary committee can extend it in extreme cases-which I don't think this is.

An illegal referendum in Crimea under the Ukrainian constitution that wasn't recognised by practically all countries largely due to the presence of invading Russian forces, then confirmed as such by the UN General Assembly? This is a stupid war as there was no sensible reason for Putin to invade Ukraine to start with.

Davitt is a good football reporter, trained to print newspaper standards, and so capable of joined-up writing. But much of any newspaper’s coverage now isn’t actually print journalism at all, but carried out in cyberspace. And by people hired mainly for their cyber-media skills. Which is fine while they are doing the cyber stuff, but the lack of proper journalistic training (plus nowadays the absence of any sub-editing to make stories error-free and readable) really shows when they attempt - as they sometimes have to - actual print journalism.

Nonsense! It absolutely does. It gets songs started and helps keep things going. Carrow Road is a morgue too often. It would’ve been the same after the Hull goal, but for the drum. If you think different, you’re deluded! There are countless examples of terrible atmospheres… Carra needs all the help it can get at the moment. Viva la drum! Viva la Flags! Out with the Namby Pamby’s!

They won't sell both and the one they'll sell will be McCallum, that's if we even get a bid. I'm not sure it looks paper thin in any regard. We have at least two players for every position.

Idah could not be deemed offside. The Hull defender intentionally tried to play the ball, it hits his abdomen and fell kindly for Idah to tap in. It is classed as a 'Deliberate Play' by IFAB rules, therefore no offside offense can be awarded, as no advantage has been gained as a result of the Hull Player's failed clearance.

Yobocop’s day started in Stevenage at 9:40 AM, where I met up with an old forum buddy, Pete, at the Esso service station in Broadwater. It was great to catch up after not seeing each other for a few years. The A11 resurfacing works looked to have come to some sort of conclusion however there was still a 40 mph restriction in place so we hot footed it down the wymondham short cut, ( @The Real Buh will be delighted to hear I had secured a car parking space at the wig and pen for yesterdays game) I then headed to the Wig and Pen for some delicious pub-style fish and chips before braving the rain and making our way to Carrow Road. The game got off to a promising start, with our team pressurising Hull City and forcing some mistakes from their defence. Giannoulis and Stacey were impressive, getting involved in the attack. However, we had a defensive blunder from Duffy and Gibson, and poor Gibson will probably take most of the blame for it (as usual). Thankfully, Gunn made a superb save in the second half, and Hull City didn't pose much threat to our defence otherwise. Let's talk about the goals! Giannoulis set up Rowe beautifully, and he scored his first goal for the club. I have a feeling he's going to be a key player for us this year. And Nunez, wow! He provided an incredible cross, and Idah finished it off instinctively. (Probably what he needed) It was a moment to remember. In midfield, Sara and McLean put in a lot of hard work, and Nunez showed his potential when he came on later in the match. When it came to picking the Man of the Match, Rowe took the honours, closely followed by Giannoulis. After the match, I found Pete waiting in the doorway of the Wig and Pen, soaked from the rain. We then drove back to Stevenage, arriving around 7:30 PM. All in all, it was a fantastic day with good company and an exciting match. Struggling to remember a more defining match at Carrow Road since the Man City game (with fans in attendance), we haven’t had many moments to savour but this one surely was.

Friend of mine bought an electric car more or less 12 months ago. His wife isn't keen on it and he is becoming a driving instructor (instead of a No1 on the Webs Ricardo) so thought maybe he might sell it. He paid £31K for it and the best deal he can get is £16K from WBAC.com. That is nearly half the price in 12 months. It appears that the electric revolution is not happening at the moment.

Can we really go on about selling Emi Buendia forever and ever? We have sold better players in the past who showed less desire to leave the club than he did. Besides, he ended up at Aston Villa, a big club with money, but neither top six nor contenders for Europe. Where were Citeh, Liverpool, Spurs, Man.U, Chelsea when he was available? I accept the stories that he wanted away and that he was given some sort of assurance that he would be sold upon completion of another year at Carrow Road. The club therefore had no choice. A disgruntled Buendia, with his heart not in the club, could well have made even Milot Rashica seem dedicated to the cause. He was a temperamental character after all. I am betting that this obsession with the sale would not have arisen if the money received had not been spent so badly.

Much smaller accomplishments compared to these (but massive for me) but the last 2 weeks I've been out every day for walks as part of my recovery! 14 months of complications from the surgeries and now I'm able to walk or do 20,000 steps (my goal per day) Monday - Friday, instead of sitting around and "taking it easy and letting my body heal and recover" Keeping that up for the next 6-8 weeks (all being well) then will start bike rides again then the aim is back to work before Christmas!!!
