**** me the constant beat down on Idah is so ****ing tenuous and ridiculous. Every. ****ing. Time. Let's try getting through a SINGLE ****ING TOPIC WITHOUT SLATING OUR OWN PLAYERS shall we?

Couldn't agree more. Surely our requirements for players are pretty simple and straightforward. Between the ages of 19-24, never had an injury, ideally a league winner or at least experience of promotion. Strikers simply need Pukki's finishing ability (as a bare minimum), whilst defensive players should have a similar set of skills that would be expected of a modern Beckenbauer. Also, available for somewhere within our budget (e.g. free/minimal transfer fee). I just don't understand why Webber and team haven't been able to find anybody to tick all the boxes, clearly his heart is no longer in it.

A tremendous talent and just watching some youtube videos what a frightening forward line Birmingham had with Trevor, Bob Latchford and Bob Hatton. Who can remember his first encounter with Brain Clough when he received an award with his hand in his pocket ? https://www.itv.com/news/central/2023-07-24/get-your-hands-out-your-pockets-brian-clough-tells-off-trevor-francis RIP Trevor.

Wagner had no intention of playing Mumba this season. Mumba knew this. Plymouth offered the going rate, probably above the going rate, for a League 1 experienced player transferring between two Champs clubs. All three parties are happy, probably a perfect transfer.

Exactly. Anyone saying the BBC is left-leaning in its reporting is simply wrong. In domestic affairs, the BBC has always had a slight house bias towards the government in charge. This current set of shysters, with their perpetual use of BBC funding as a political football, are trying to increase said house bias.

Tides as constant as constant can be, can someone explain to me why the UK, with some of the mightiest (the mightiest?) tides on the planet, is not harnessing this potential? I suspect the costs would be huge, but there are no cheap options. There's been talk of the Severn Barrage for decades, and more recently a proposal to stick one in The Wash, there must be a reason why it's never come to fruition. I drove over La Rance last year whilst on holiday in Brittany. It was a pretty insignificant looking structure to be honest, but I Googled it and realised that it is the world's first meaningful tidal energy generator and four decades on is producing 500GWh of energy a year. I'm sure with our stronger tides and forty years of technological advancement, we could be building similar or larger structures capable of producing significantly more energy. On a windless day where clouds-fill the sky, the tide will always rise and fall.

The biggest reason to vote tactically next year. These people have owned American politics for many years and by stealth they are trying to buy ours. The funding would dry up if our political right wing is marginalised. I'm convinced that the majority of people in this country just want sensible, moderate government. I'm sure LYB will tell us that only PR will give us that. I doubt PR will happen any time soon but voting tactically on a massive scale at the forthcoming election is the next best thing.

As I've always maintained - there is a systemic need among Norwich fans to find some sort of blame within the team, even when it's going well. For a couple of years it was Cantwell, even when we were winning leagues and watching incredible football. Now it seems to be Idah. I remember when it was Thomas Helveg when Worthy was in. Ian Henderson often got it too, didn't he?

    1. He's missed 45 games through injury in 7 seasons. In the same period he has played 283 games, so he has been injured 16% of the time. The same rate would see him play 39 league games next season and miss 7 through injury. 2. Even of these 45, 11 have been with concussion (which is not really an injury in the traditional football sense that he he had muscle/ ligament or bone damage) + 2 for illness, meaning he has missed 32 games for "normal football injuries" in 7 years. This would give an injury rate of 11%, which if repeated would mean he would be unavailable for 5 league games out of 46. 3. In his worse season, he missed 25 games (nine with concussion) but still played 28 games so he missed less than half the season. 4. In addition, the injuries seem to be of different type and not repetitive - he doesn't have "a dodgy knee" or any other recurrent injury. I think that it would be very harsh to describe him as injury prone. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christian-fassnacht/verletzungen/spieler/250490

I'd be inclined to say thinking of them just as wingers might be slightly misplaced and you're seeing a combination of wingers and attacking midfielders that start wide-ish. Buendia started on a wing, but didn't really play like a classic winger much at all. Wouldn't be totally surprised to see Sainz (from what I've heard) or even Tzolis spend some time at number 10 or more in the hole at least.

So are you going to give the evidence then? It just say there’s loads and not give it? Mumba might turn out great, he might not. He will never be worth so much we will kick ourselves and certainly isn’t at this moment. Players are worth what someone will pay for them. If he becomes a world beater I’ll say ‘well I didn’t expect that’ and move on without having to mourn our loss. I’m not blindly backing the clubs hierarchy, I’m pretty much just assuming that he isn’t that big of a deal. You can try and make conflict/us vs them all you like, you’re clearly of the weak-minded Twitter debate generation that have to sensationalise everything because they’re told that it’s either black or white and no grey.

I agree but Henderson and the rest are not Joe Public. They are easily worth 20 Million plus I would say probably more. When you are that wealthy why make decisions based sorely on money. Henderson children’s children’s children will never have to worry about money. Bit depressing if you ask me.

No way in the world Plymouth wouldn't take another loan, given the regard they clearly held him in. It's very similar to the Skipp situation here (IIRC the club tried to secure another loan when we went up, but Spurs said no). Letting him go on a permanent for 1m just seems negligent. It's basically us saying he has no future at this club. Quite a statement given that there's a not unreasonable chance we'll have a new manager come season end. Perhaps an engaged DoF might have realized that.

You guys all said it, not me! @hogesar @Branston Pickle @TheGunnShow @BigFish I understand that now the transfer has happened, you are happy to get behind it because the club has made the decision and ultimately that trumps all as supporters and we have to respect the underlying professional knowledge behind the transfer which we are a million miles away from. But at the same time, its clear that you all had similar expectations to what I did for Mumba's potential in the team, and I think its okay to feel a bit disappointed if it transpires that your expectation and the reality differ significantly. Perhaps you are all better supporters than me, willing to set aside all of your expectations at the drop of a hat, as soon as the club does something which goes against the grain of your understanding. And fair play if so, I just find it more difficult. It's just very anti-climactic that a player to me who has been spoke about in such a high regard, probably the best youngster we've had out on loan in recent seasons, is now being sold for a very small fee without ever being given the proper chance in the first team that we all wanted to see. I think its okay to admit that personally, without it being a great attack on the club either, hell you guys are entitled to feel bummed out from time to time too!

SW has always been astute on sales. Remember when Glenn Middleton went on a free to Rangers? Similar angst about that one…we had a hefty sell on in that deal…..to protect our interests. Now plying his trade for Dundee Utd in Scottish Championship, approx L1 level.

I'm pretty sure you'll find under Wagner that if he stays consistent with his previous approach the full backs will be at least as attacking as they've ever been for us - they'll be expected to be pushing beyond the wingers who'll come inside a little. So more or less a 4-2-3-1 in defence and something like a 3-1-4-2 in attack (depending on where you draw the lines.) I think both Sainz and Fassnacht - although starting off wide - both have the capacity to play as more of an inside forward type of wide player and will be expected to drift inside to allow the fullbacks to provide the width. Both are also pretty adept at the defensive side of the game from what I've read so will at least fit in with the high press approach. Jury remains very much out for me on the overall tactical approach, but at least we have a plan and are looking at finding some players suited to it instead of the square peg round hole approach of the past couple of seasons.

No. He played 34 times last season. He had a knee injury and missed 11 games.

I'd like to think he's way out with his positional prediction, but difficult to argue with his comments. This one is particular will probably rile the pro-Webber brigade but is particularly spot on; "When the club won the title at this level in 2020-21, they could afford to minimize the hangover effect of relegation by adding fresh talent, but it's not something the club could afford to do last summer, or in this one, due to 2021's wasteful extravagance." Another (correct) perception about our fanbase too; "while the Canaries have a largely patient fanbase, they've been put through the ringer over the last two years, as the gap between club and supporters has felt wide as the Norfolk Broads." Yet if you believe some of the people on here, that largely patient fanbase next gave Smith a chance, booed constantly and forced him out of the club, and are then attempting to repeat the trick with Wagner. Admittedly, this bizarre premise tends to be peddled by those who don't attend games, but there are one or two that do who would have you believe this nonsense.

There needs to be a 2 week soft ban / throttle for any idiot starting a thread calling for a new striker.
  34. 2 points
Personally, I'd prefer to ditch the wingers, but we're clearly not going down that route. Doesn't make too much sense when Rowe and Springett are potentially two youngsters to be readied either.

Jools, this lady knows what she is talking about. Read her points. @Frances_Coppola The BBC caved to pressure from the right wing, yet again, but these are the facts, as explained simply in the following thread.

Not sure why pictures are disappearing in this thread. Anyway, a few more before I came back from Germany last night. Sombre one to start with, this is Strasse der Nationen (Road of Nations) at the memorial site of Buchenwald concentration camp, near Weimar. Theatre in Weimar. Can't avoid the Goethe and Schiller statue, really! Most of Weimar's city centre was like this!

Henderson has been heavily criticised by the LGBTQ community, and you can most certainly see why.
  48. 1 point
Tax free too, which is what I find so mental. Henderson's probably going to be clearing the equivalent pay of 8 seasons at Liverpool for every 1 played in Saudi. I mean, the incentive is insane.
