I thought the extra man in midfield would help but I didn't realise it would be Hayden.

Oh c'mon this is just... Because a different manager hasn't led to significant improvement in the squad, this points to the fans being the ones in the wrong about Webber? And in no way does it point to the guy who assembled this squad maybe not doing a good job? Incredible cognitive dissonance on display here.

It’s strange, as eventually the figures will stabilise. At that point we will be told see we told you we would bring it down. Many will bite and celebrate, however in reality the prices will be way higher than they were a year ago. As BBC just pointed out, inflation falling will have absolutely nothing to do with any government plan. They simply rely on their supporters buying into their s***.

He put every forward player in the squad on the pitch. It was like watching an under-8's team. Absolutely clueless.

I shan't believe it until Lakey says so.

There's a fundamental lack of cohesion in our team. It's all in the midfield and mainly around the defensive structure which should be underlying our 'system' but compounded by a lack of ability and application in key areas. Hayden is hugely deficient due to his glacial pace and lack of passing ability - I understand he's suffered injuries and is not up to match fitness, but he looks non-league or maybe 'veterans' level to me. Marquinhos is simply unable to perform the basics of a Championship midfielder - he starts too high, basically trying to play as an outright winger/wide attacker without any regard for his position in the buildup and transitions. He doesn't have the pace or ability to scare the opposition defence so they don't worry about him. Hernandez we know well. He can threaten when he runs with the ball, but he offers little otherwise. Ultimately there's not dynamism or creativity in the midfield, no one dropping deep looking for the ball, no one pulling defenders out of position and no one creating or utilising space. I would replace every one of our midfield with the players we had in 2020-21. The team has gone backwards.

Wonder if Onel is on his YouTube channel again, apologising for the team.

Personally I'm enraged that someone who's been fasting all day has run rings around us.

How is Webber still in a job here, has to go in the summer.

Complete silence in the away end at the final whistle tonight. We are done. This side doesn’t have the heart. This manager doesn’t have the nous (taking off Onel and leaving on Sarg was riduculous). That was a game we needed to win against a crap side but after dominating the early stages of the second half we retreated into our shells after yet another idiotic playing out from the back error that did not cost us a goal but killed all momentum. Webber is a complete fraud and must go.

Still love Delia, still love the club. It's been a poor season, we've had plenty in the past, and we'll have plenty more far worse than this.
  15. 3 points
You paint such a bizarre picture of our club sometimes. In your world it seems like Webber, Smith, Wagner, Farke are all just powerless actors buffeted this way and that at the demands of the fans, with little to no role to play on their own decisions or fates.

All we needed was to have won one of QPR, Rotherham, Huddersfield or Wigan, all pitiful games vs sides at the bottom (in which we scored just twice), and we’d have been 6th.

Oooh - I know this one! It’s ‘who do you think will score in the 46th minute?’

I put the 5-1 defeat solely down to the awful weather. How were we supposed to play that slick, front foot football we have been enjoying all season in those conditions? It should have been called off.

The issue here is that Ramsey was undeniably injured, and we presumably decided that it might be longer term before he was back. Given that information, the decision made sense and is only stupid in hindsight as he’s played a number of times for boro. The thing is, I can well imagine Ramsey having been kept on and his injury having taken ages to heal - the bleating about us keeping a crock would have been incessant, as it has been re: Hayden. Tbh you need a bit of luck with transfer and loans, and we seem to have used ours up with Pukki, Skipp and Emi…we are surely due another dose of fortune though.

Michael Bailey is surely our most respected local football journalist and i have no reason to doubt what he has said. Webber needs to be gone from this club ASAP !

Webber gone, that's what we need.

Lakey’s blind optimism is always in the face of facts and the obvious. He’s the biggest happy clapper on this site. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was an alias for someone at the club

I watched Bailey's latest video podcast last night and he suggested that Ramsey celebrated as he did because it was Norwich who decided to end his loan once Dean Smith was fired, not the player himself, because they wanted to replace him with Marquinhos. If this is true (and Bailey is not some wannabe in-the-know poser, but a respected football journalist), it would be yet another poor decision by Webber, since Ramsey was having quite a good loan spell at City and Marquinhos has been largely ineffective since coming in. Bailey was quite direct about this and didn't hedge his words. He also said that he believed Sara would be sold in the close season. He didn't go on to add 'so that Webber can waste yet more money on poor recruitment decisions', but IMO the implication was there. EDIT: I know it can be argued that it is due to Webber that we have Sara in the first place, but even so I'm scared that he is going to repeat his earlier mistake and sell the player we should be building our team around and replace him with a bunch of bad loans. In Buendia's case, there may have been a gentleman's agreement that needed to be honoured; there would be no such mitigating factor if he sells Sara and replaces him with the equivalent of Gilmour, Kabak and Normann.

Fair to say they deserve it and more so than us, and to think a lot of it's down to a certain Carlton Morris..

It is not even speculation. It is an infantile accusation with nothing to support it motivated purely by an animus against Delia Smith. There is no evidence there is an unexpected delay. Takeovers are often long drawn out affairs. But as you indicate, if anyone was holding things up it would be more likely to be Attanasio.

There was I thinking we scored early in the 2nd half and would really push for a winner. Instead we got worse as the game went on and never looked like scoring again. Wagner panicked and nullified the impact that Idah was having, it was a mess really.

If it's "unacceptable" how do we refuse to accept it ? Ask for a rematch ? Pretend it doesn't happen ? What does this even mean ? We've been totally inconsistent since Wagner took over. Before then, we were consistently poor for the last part of Smith's reign. Under Wagner we have good games mixed with games where we are poor for part or all of the game. Right now, we've lost our first choice CBs and the player we've been using as DM, meaning it's a makeshift defence that is very vulnerable. People love to have a go at Hanley, Gibson and McLean but the truth is they are really good players at this level. Also, Pukki is massively out of form and Sargent is still coming back from injury and Idah is struggling. So I can see this game going either way honestly.

I love that comment on there "They're trying to get in the playoffs And we're trying to avoid relegation So it comes down to who has the most desire"

This seems a fair summary to me. It's understandable he's judged primarily on recruitment and coach hiring-and-firing since those are the parts of his job we as fans can easily see the results of. I don't feel confident in judging his behind the scenes work, but it's probably worth remembering that the board are judging him on all aspects of his role, not just the bits we see. Purely in terms of recruitment, I think an objective observer would say that the club did this outstandingly well in his first four years, but that we've lost our way since the second promotion. And I think Webber would have more chance of fans seeing his whole tenure in this light if he'd been more humble about his failings. His straight talking bullishness when successful has not been matched with similar honesty when he has failed.

That’s my point. *If* and when we sell him, then criticise the decision. Don’t start doom-posting about things like haven’t happened yet. It’s like those posters on the derby thread convinced we would lose to 1p5wich. Why get riled about something that hasn’t and might not happen? Live in the moment not a possible disastrous future.
  49. 2 points
It’s pretty simple . DO NOT play Lungi at CB DO NOT play Pukki and Sergeant. DO play Lungi as DM along Sara DO push Gibbs further forward. Put Byram or Warner at CB. We will win if we do this but I suspect we will keep the same line up which would be a disaster !
