Watched WBA play Posh (my local team) at the Hawthorns a couple of weeks ago, booed off at half time and talk of 'happy clappers' and realists in the pub beforehand - I felt quite at home

I think we are all in our own ways trying to say the same thing. The difference we had always hoped for in our unwritten constitution between our UK politicians and elsewhere was a sense of honour - if they made a mistake they would apologize and if necessary resign. It's not that there haven't been some bad apples in the past but once found out it was game-over - their own colleagues would if necessary see to it else they would all be tarred by the same brush. There is nothing honourable about Johnson or his Tory party. They are (or those that haven't sent in letter publicly) clearly dishonourable 'gentle' men and women out for their own narrow interests - simply people you would not wish to associated with. They are as others have noted, no different in character to such as Berlusconi or others in banana republics or indeed oligarchies. Such is the sorry state of UK politics that we also when we need it no effective head of state to remove such bad actors (and noting that the Queen has already been lied to once). Shame on them.

He's better than a lot on here are suggesting. The problem was he picked the wrong club, at the wrong time and now his confidence is low. I'd take him back in a heartbeat.

Quite. A pathetically lazy term, and frequently used by people who either are opposed to the particular moral stance in question or dislike (or are embarrassed by) all moral stances. It tends to go along with whataboutery and accusations of hypocrisy on the lines of 'OK if you care about this issue why don't you care about that issue and that issue and that...'

I read the rest, and it all chimes with me YF, but what I've quoted is what stood out most. He is lying scum, and those in that party that don't call him out are treacherous scoundrels.

Brexit is like spending £200 on £1 scratchcards, then bragging about the one that won £20 to everyone, never mentioning all the rest that went straight in the bin.

Typical of the idiocy on here. How can you be sure when you haven't got a clue what has gone on???
  14. 3 points
Yep, the club have failed as much as Todd here. Maybe it all started with that Webber comment after relegation, maybe it started with the Farke fallout but there's no way things should have played out the way they did. Todd speaks really well in the interview, as he typically does. Some on here were desperate to stamp on him even when he was flying with us so I dread to think the sort of abuse he got online from some of 'our own' . Bournemouth looks a decent fit for him to try and find his form back but it's a desperate shame it appears one of our more talented players, who's come through the academy, won't be playing for us again - and this time not for a career step-up.

Here is what I don't understand...why does this bother so many people? Taking a look ast the article on the website the sum total of this seems to be... Rainbow social media avatars A matchday programme focusing on LGBTQ+ experience in sports/Justin Fashanu Some videos on their social channels. If you're one of those who this isn't of interest to then surely just ignore it and move on? It doesn't harm you in any way and it might possibly make a fan who is struggling with their sexuality or identity feel a bit more welcome and included in the sport they love- what's not to like about it? Finally, the fact this sort of thing attracts these sorts of comments both on here and on social media kind of shows why its still needed. If people who didn't care for it could just shrug their shoulders and walk on maybe people wouldn't feel the need to make a big deal about this sort of thing.

I'm in my early 60's now and spent my whole working life in a compliance roll. I have to say that I don't think I ever encountered anyone quite like Johnson and I met some quite unpleasant people. It came home to me when I saw Rory Stewart interviewed on the BBC on Monday night. Whether or not you share Stewart's politics I don't think anyone could doubt his honesty. His view was that Johnson will say anything to get through the day and has no line in the sand whatsoever. At the moment I'm listening to a Tory MP on Radio 5 repeating the false allegations about Kier Starmer and Jimmy Saville. She claims it was the number 1 topic when she was knocking on doors in Grimsby last week. Nicky Campbell came as close as he possibly could to calling her a liar but she really didn't care. She went on to say that the BBC should stop critizing Johnson and let him get on with his job. That sounds a bit like Russia to me. My God, what a mess.

Well I'm obviously in the minority on here, but I'm proud to support a club which clearly has higher ethical standards than most. I don't think I'd be willing to follow a team backed by a dubious regime. If we had a similar takeover to Newcastle then that would be the end of my connection with Norwich City. To be honest, being a football supporter is at odds with my general philosophy in life. It's only really the perception that Norwich does things a bit differently that allows me to overcome the uneasiness I have with the whole thing. I'll personally be boycotting the world cup. I have no interest in being any part of that particular aberration. I know that won't make the slightest difference in the scheme of things, but it's just a personal conscience thing. I detest the term 'virtue signalling'; as if it's somehow offensive to say and do kind things. While there might be tiny proportion of people who are really only interested in the image of appearing to be a good person, the vast majority of people are genuinely compassionate. There are obviously hypocrisies built into having a Western lifestyle, but that doesn't mean that making efforts to do better should be scorned. At the end of the day, I need to be able to look my children in the eyes and say that I did my best to make the world a good place.

Just to be sure, we shouldn't be tolerant of people taking the knee but should be tolerant of those who don't like people taking the knee? Is that where we're at with you guys now?
  20. 3 points
Here we go - the haughty moral superiority of my view to yours. Stop it please - it’s nasty and it’s what is making our culture ever more intolerant in the name of tolerance. The woke puritan movement.
  21. 3 points
If you've grown "tired" of a 3 second kneeling demonstration of players showing solidarity with their (BAME) colleagues, or mention of LGBTQ+ issues, that says plenty about your levels of tolerance and nothing at all about the relevance of addressing those issues within football.

Is this post for real. Why do people have to try to imply Cantwell isn’t very good? He is quality. It’s such a shame how things have panned out for reasons I’m sure pretty much none of know, but he is a serious player so give the lad credit for that at least.

Some of the Bournemouth fans have commented that Todd looks like Erin from Derry Girls. Can't say I had ever noticed it myself, but I can see where they are coming from..........

I'm sure we can Parma. Last time we were there was for the Euros draw in the summer. We've got a record presentation at some point in the spring so perhaps we can combine that with a PUPs tour of the Nest? 🥅💛⚽💚

I personally find it bizarre you don't want to know whats going on at the club. This has clear ramifications. It is the difference between a healthy budget and a mediocre one in the future. It's the difference between staying up and going down. It's the difference between a petulant player who is getting paid to treat us like fools or managers who couldn't get the best out a talented player. We aren't wealthy enough to write off 20 million assets and when it happens we want to know why. He has pulled out of training late for Smith too and you haven't mentioned his unhelpful social media messages that directly contradict the manager. There is a huge difference between 'slagging him off' and wanting to know why our most potent attacking midfielder didn't want to play football anymore and why we now have a massive hole in future finances.

Must admit I never rated him as highly as many. Looked good when we were a strong team in the championship but never really premier league class. He's a decent footballer but not strong enough either physically or mentally (in terms of determination and tactics) for the top division. Shame for him but must admit Webber did a great deal on his sale.
  40. 2 points
With respect, the surprise would have been if he hadn't brazened it out. What he did was totally in character, if 'character' is the right word.
  41. 2 points
Did we over rate him? What, by realising that even right footed Sam Byram was better than him at left back and barely playing him for half a season before flogging him at the first sniff of a decent offer? Steve Bruce overrated him, not us.
  42. 2 points
Not at all. We should not claim moral superiority of our own view and look down on other people simply because we disagree with them. It doesn’t make you a bad person if your boat is not floated by political correctness. Nor if it has become your new religion. My message - be kind to everyone is a better rallying slogan than getting football embroiled in woke wars. Take black lives matters as the perfect example. I detest racism and would happily take a knee for the kick it out campaign whose only objective is the eradication of racism in football. I would never take a knee for BLM because they are an extreme left wing agitation group with strong socialist impulses which I abhor just as much as racism. What is worse they hide behind the cause - labelling anyone bad if they refuse to now but then raking in cash for other political causes. No thanks from me. if it’s your thing - fair game. But keep it out of football

Here we go- refusal to address very simple issues of treating people of all ethnicities and sexualities as equals in a sport that should be judged purely on footballing merit alone. The let's not challenge bigotry movement.

Thanks loads for this Feedthewolf. Please thank other panel members for me too. The long game at this point is the best game. It's early doors with having this sort of panel around and it is all about, like you say, building relationships with various people in different roles at the club. Going in all guns blazing and demanding immediate change will never work. It doesn't work anywhere else, at least not for the long term. Keep up the good work and great effort, it's much appreciated.

It's absolutely hilarious that anyone is taking any of this anywhere close to serious. Transfermarket is the most entirely unreliable source for player values. They'll put up totally inaccurate transfer fees even if they have been made public. Someone has then used this to write an article?!! And then some of you are using this to, yet again (shock horror), beat the club with. What a joke.
  47. 2 points
I think that can be said about most "normal" job roles (not just at football clubs) compared to players salaries. Its the players salary that is out of step.
  48. 2 points
Tell me you don't understand football without telling me you don't understand football. Being able to read the game at the top level, be in the right place at the right time, making the right runs and avoiding attention of defenders / getting there before Premier League defenders is essentially one of the most prized assets in football and what has been the basis for some of the worlds best players. There's enough weaknesses in some of Todd's play to not try and die on the hill of "Yeah he scored goals but they weren't good enough"
  49. 2 points
What can be gleaned from this is that the real issue behind his lack of training was not wanting to play for our club anymore! Regardless of the personal issues, if he’s happy enough to relocate away from his family hub to play football then it’s not all down to personal issues as some supposedly were in the know! Personally as some on this I’m a little saddened by the whole 6 months, glad he’s found a club to take a chance on him and glad City will get something back on their development. Good luck to him hopefully he’ll grow up in his attitude and realise he’s 24 now!

If that is the case it begs the question why (as far as I am aware), there is not one openly gay professional footballer amongst the 92 league clubs. I am not having a go at your view, I understand where you are coming from and I echo your comment regarding people being kind to each other. That all said you would have thought that by now there would be at least one openly gay footballer, that there is not suggests a lot more needs to be done within football to get to a point where an individual has no qualms in "coming out"........
