I decided to revert to the old scarf today in the hope that after a rest over Xmas it had regained it's magic properties. The initial signs were good for it was a nice bright winter day and the conditions underfoot seemed made for a decent game of football. It looked like Farke had gone for a back three with Godfrey restored to the line up and a first outing for Duda just behind Pukki. Both teams looked nervous from the off as the opening exchanges were littered with mistakes. The Cherries were the first to cause a moment of danger when Wilson glanced a header from a left wing cross straight at Krul. Back up at our end City buzzed about a bit with plenty of possession but could not work an opening. Duda immediately impressed me with some astute first time passes but after a promising build up the final ball into the box lacked quality. We have seen some inspiring stuff at CR in recent weeks but City didn't seem to be quite at it today. Thankfully Bournemouth looked as poor as anything we have seen at Carrow Rd this season but City were still finding it hard to put any sustained attacking threat together. Indeed we were past halfway before Duda's low ball sent Aarons clear on the City right. There was a good cross and plenty in the box but Buendia's header went a yard wide. There were a couple of blocked efforts as City tried to up the ante but generally there was little real goalmouth action at either end. On the half hour a nice through ball set Pukki away between two defenders. Ramsdale was quick off his line to block but the rebound fell kindly for Duda about twenty yards out. His curling shot was destined for the top corner only for Cook to fly across to his left and tip the ball onto the post and away. It would have been a fabulous save had he been the keeper, but for him it was the walk of shame and that rare thing for City, a Premier League penalty. Even then, we had to wait a couple of minutes for a man two hundred miles away to agree with what was patently obvious to everyone in the ground. This sort of thing must put extra pressure on the taker but Pukki stepped up confidently to rifle the ball high into the net. With eleven against ten it should have been plain sailing but the home side spent much of the remainder of the half with lots of possession but very little penetration. Tetty had a couple of long range sighters, one went a couple of yards wide of Ramsdales right post while the other finished high wide and not very handsome up in the River End stand. It was nice to be in front at the half but it had been mostly uninspiring stuff and surely it could only improve for the second forty five. City tried to crack on with Aarons making a foray down the right and Buendia beginning to look more and more influential but apart from the odd corner there was little to get excited about. Meanwhile Bournemouth began to get up a head of steam and twice balls flashed across the City box without anyone getting a touch. Just after the hour the visitors could have been level had not Wilson made a complete hash of a chance from six yards out. Finally City seemed to get the message and with just over twenty minutes left Pukki did everything right when latching onto Buendia's lovely through ball. He would net nine out of ten of those chances but somehow Ramsdale blocked it. Then it was Duda's turn from about twelve yards but again the visitors keeper was equal to it. Buendia then decided to do it all on his own and dragged the ball past several defenders before having his effort blocked. With less than fifteen minutes left VAR made another unwelcome appearance when Godfrey was red carded for a late tackle. I didn't look any worse than many that had recieved yellows but there you go, once it came up on the screen we all knew what the result would be. City brought on Hanley for Duda, Drmic for Pukki and late on Rupp for Pukki. Those last ten minutes were untidy and nervous stuff with little in the way of chances but I think most of us just wanted the whistle to blow and it was a relief when it finally did. It was a nice change to come away with the points but as a spectacle it was a load of old tosh and I think most would agree it was the poorest display of the season by a fair margin. MOM Buendia who again looked different class with a mention for Duda who made a promising debut. My old scarf also gets a mention for regaining some of its former luckiness.

Looks class. Vision, touch, range and only denied a debut goal by one of the best saves I’ve ever seen. Great start and hopefully a catalyst to the season

Enough of the negativity, how about some positives Duda looks class Buendia is finally looking the part in the PL Cantwell continues to improve and learn Mclean was superb in the first half, his interceptions were spot on and was great in the air. Doubters need a rethink We overcame the consistent cheating from Bournemouth who had little else to offer We scored a penalty! oh and we won the game OTBC

First half we were very good. 2nd half we let them pin us back too much but broke well and you wouldn’t be moaning had we converted one of the clear cut chances we had. A wins a win. We did the job. Happy days i feel sorry for anyone that can’t be simply happy this evening

Played the ball? No! Made contact with the opposition player with force? Yes! Reviewed by VAR? Not a f*****g chance! I'm talking of course about Sebastien Haller's foul on Christoph Zimmermann in the West Ham v Norwich game earlier this season. A foul which led to West Ham taking the lead while Zimmermann was still injured and Zimmermann being ruled out injured for 11 weeks. I've got no issue with Ben Godfrey's red card today, but it's the lack of consistency (always to our disadvantage) which makes my blood boil.

All domestic games count towards the ban.

I often wonder what does make some people actually smile and enjoy football. We won in a game we desperately needed to win. Rather that than another top performance but a defeat. Imagine the pressure on Bournemouth now.

Three points is three points, win is a win and best of all no LDC thread needed this week! Win all round!😂

God that was nerve-wracking. We dropped deeper & deeper ... Looked totally knackered half way through second half. Cantwell was like a duracell bunny fortunately, chased down everything on the pitch. He never fails to surprise me with his gangly skills & determination. A real find. How they didn't score I'll never know. Mind you, how we didn't score more is also a mystery. But that's the same most weeks. Tempting fate, but Duda looks utter class. We're gonna have to improve on that to stand any chance at all. A bumpy ride awaits ..

So was this "clear and obvious red" more clear and obvious than the one that got overturned against sheff utd? I have my doubts...

Well done Gary, another £7 in the presentation pot. Bluddy Linfield lost us the six but Kev's Scottish acca is still alive for £193.21. Come on Celtic and Motherwell!

Like I said earlier. We've played beautiful in the past and wound up with nothing. An ugly win like this might give the squad some confidence that they can dig deep and gut one out. They did what they needed to do and gave themselves a chance. Great result.

In that case use some of the evidence of when we've played well for large periods and not got what we've deserved. If you choose to take the most negative view each time I'll never understand you, just glad I don't share it

Yep, this thread existing is proof that some just want to give each other grief for absolutely zero reason. It is truly a shame HHS, i love being able to share opinions and see others, and remain always open. I also enjoy a good debate about differing opinions, it can occasionally change my mind, or clarify my own view, but it's nice when it's conducted in a healthy way. I had one as recently as this week in fact. This, I'm afraid, is an art lost to too many on here. The very definition of a forum is the exchange of ideas and views, that's why I keep coming back. Unfortunately too many threads descend into this - petty point scoring and trying to be 'clever'. When in truth, to their peers (in shared interest only of course), they just look desperate for the attention. And opinions aside, the fact is that it's when certain posters get involved. We all know who they are. They know who they are. They love it. You can't fight that. It's all very 'look at me, why aren't you looking? LOOK AT ME'. Best thing to do is genuinely ignore them. I've started doing this, just dont rise, ever. Makes the forum more enjoyable for sure. I've also started to 'play the post, not the poster', it is difficult sometimes however, admittedly.

Becoming a regular feature of games at CR where I'm looking at my watch around 60 mins and thinking we need some fresh legs on here. Happens so often and the whole place just gets flatter and flatter, we sit deeper and deeper, and we all see the same thing repeated. The crowd tried to lift the game today but its so hard when players are nervous, sitting back and looking drained of energy. One request to Daniel, please FFS make some subs earlier on, when it's so obvious we are running out of steam

Yes fabulous Kev. What a star🌟 Getting six has been soooo frustrating this season so you go and get TEN!! I know this means a lot to you because it was this weekend. Means a lot to me too. Ray's Young Gun🙃 Soooo here we have the new updated totals with the £200 we've added today... And here is proof that you've joined an exclusive club with five wins... We all love ya Kev, you lovely old boy!

100% agree with the OP. I'd be really surprised if anyone can make an argument for Farke's decision to essentially not to make any substitutions. We've been punished too many times by teams finding a second wind, whilst we fatigue. It was unnecessarily close to happening again today. It feels like we have self created disadvantage. Would love to know Farke's thoughts on this. Be nice if Archant could press the issue a little.

I dislike VAR a lot. But it's very cynical to suggest the time was taken to try and reverse the decision. What's the point in saying that? A few Norwich fans need to stop feeling like victims, this isn't helping. As FTW said, there were a number of things they were checking. Yes, it needs to speed up, but those are the reasons. And it did get everything right today, can't hide from that.

At least DF forced to make a sub😐

Should have killed this off against 10 nen, Pukki, Duda, Buendia.

Cantwell crosses, who's that there, Duda, Duda

I'm calling it now...McLean has compromising photos of Farke ..barring Klose, a fully fit squad....Trybull Vrancic Leitner Amadou and even Rupp available but somehow we're back to McLean in a holding midfield position?!?

What a player for us. Was at Charlton when he got us up! A warrior in yellow. Enjoy your retirement Admiral.

On one side we have stats, goals and appearances - i.e. Farke's verdict - and on the other your "imo". Nuff said.

I don't think any should hang their heads in shame. As with other parts of life the strong can help the weak cope. Is there anything I can do for you?

They have Ipswich Town PLC, Ipswich Town Football Club Ltd, Ipswich Town Stadium Co Ltd and Ipswich Town Property Co Ltd. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.

Hernandez should have 100% been on prior to the sending off and the obvious replacement is either Cantwell, Buendia or Duda. I would have removed one of those; probably Emi, because, as good as he is with the ball, when we're winning, the likelihood that he will throw a strop when he gets tackled / fouled / lose the ball and not track back potentially outweighs his massive benefit of being magic with the ball. However, today, as others have said, Cantwell ran around all day and was one of the few to keep going full speed, even at the end. His running disrupted them and helped see the game out.

As always great report Ricardo I will take my old faithful scarf to Spurs on Wednesday

Apologies, got the wrong end of the stick!
  36. 1 point
Apparently the handball they were checking was not the defenders but a possible one by Cantwell in the build up which is why it took so long to decide

So you'll be pleased with the clean sheet today. 👍
  38. 1 point
Yes it is. We had one (totally inexperienced) centre back for several games at the beginning of the season - & he was playing with a hernia. VAR has just been introduced. Look at the league table without it. We'd be 2 points off 15th. If you think everything in life is under your control you're seriously deluded.

Soft red!! That’s as clear a red card as you could see. An absolute leg breaking challenge

Awful game management from Farke again, should have made subs about 65/ 70 mins. Get Rupp or Hernandez on
  41. 1 point
Nuffo, the brain is a strange organ, sometimes it short circuits. He wouldn't do that 999 times out of 1000. Glad he did though, the idiot.

5 of them retakes after Krul saves and the other 2 by players sent off then allowed back on again....

I won’t blame VAR for this season. We haven’t been good enough. doesnt mean I can’t be mad at referees, the referee management and the premier league for willingly mess up this season. It’s incompetence or corruption and they should frankly be sued for changing so many refereeing rules as the season goes on

All too dodgy for my liking, got a feeling that in 4 or 5 years time we'll look back and say " jeez , we dodged a bullet there" by just doing our own thing, slowly but surely strengthening, improving quality and depth of squad, no major borrowing for players and wages, no panic ,, just self belief, determination and hard work backed up by an academy that is churning out players, not just for us and above, but players that will have good careers at a lower level, whose sales ,albeit unspectacular , contribute to the clubs overall ability to improve. Hare and tortoise springs to mind. We're Norwich City....we go our own way.

If he has been banned then he probably did that for himself. Surprised though cos if that was going to happen I would have though it would have happened ages ago. Presumably he's ok then so thats good news, if he'd been in hospital I would have gone to visit him.

Nobody has suggested playing three centre halves, which we could now do as we have three fit probably for the first time all season. I've been under the impression that it is an option that Farke has wanted to employ allowing the full backs more freedom to push on, again something he likes. Lewis better going forward than Byram. Krul Aarons. Zimbo. Godfrey. Hanley. Lewis Tetty Emi. Duda. Cantwell Pukki Maybe not a pick for Bournemouth at home but I can see something like it playing away or against the better teams

I’m really surprised that a number of people want to bench our second highest scorer and most creative player after Buendia. Yes Cantwell can frustrate at times but he scores goals, we are a team that desperately needs goals so benching him makes no sense to me. Plus he was one of the few players who I personally thought didn’t go missing against United.
  49. 1 point
Dont think Hernandez has done anything to warrant a start over Cantwell. I also think Hernandez works better as an impact sub whereas I dont see that being a feature of Cantwells game. Otherwise agree.

Well now we have the realms of fantasy, we’ve stuck to our guns, we’ve given it ago and we’ve found out we lack the quality, experience and money to compete at the top level. I have enjoyed it, losing will build experience to our players, we’ve built up a financial buffer for the future, we’ve signed some very exciting young players in our youth system, who might have not signed has they not seen our clubs progression with youth players. It was never going to be the Top 4 as so stupidly predicted by those who lived in Yellow n Green dreamland, it was always about giving our best. Farke is a fantastic coach, his system is superb, he attracts and gets the best out of our youngsters and I love watching the way we play football, it’ll be very exciting next year back in the championship. Give the guy the credit he deserves and enjoy him while he’s here, you’ll miss him when he goes.
