No more joking about. The poor lass is rather ill. All the best to her and hope the treatment works.
  2. 9 points
Indeed. It's always a shock when you get told you have cancer but these days it's not a death sentence. There are lots of new treatments coming on line all the time. Best wishes to Kate, I hope all goes well with the treatment.

This week has been the anniversary of a friend taking his own life. I've also sadly heard another friend has done the same thing. Added to that a few other people I knew in the last 10 years or so. It's so sad. I know life is **** alot of the time but PLEASE just talk to someone if you feel that way. Perhaps random to post on here and also I'm not always great with words but I'm not going to apologise for that. Just don't do it. The world would be better with Aaron, Karl, Carl, lee and Richard in it despite what they may have thought...

What's controversial about it? Nike decided to fiddle a bit with a flag from a saint born in modern-day Turkey who served in the Roman army and LeeAnderthal went apoplectic for absolutely no reason whatsoever, as far as I can see.
  6. 4 points
I can't see how the blame is on Nike as everyone is implying, they're making the kit based on the requirements and subsequent sign-off from the FA surely? I'm quite patriotic but it doesn't bother me a great deal, but I get the argument that if it was done to certain other countries there would be outrage and the more I hear people pushing that I can feel me start to feel that anger. However, as a design I quite like it. It's not supposed to be a flag but a homage to it, isn't it? i.e. when have we ever had a flag on the kit to start with? The identification has always been the four lions from what I can remember. Edit: Just had a look online at old kits and this come up from 2010, why was there no outrage then? Is it because we hadn't all turned into arseholes trotting around americanisms like 'snowflake', 'woke', and 'butthurt', perhaps?

The saddest thing I’ve seen on this message board is @King Keano pledging £1 per point difference between our clubs in 18/19 for our ds guys and then not paying up when it went wrong for you lot. Those of you who seem to be allowed to post freely on here, including King Keano, could club together to pay? It’s £63.

I particularly enjoyed the lady in the judgment (Mrs R I think) who would have held off on buying her second home for a couple more years if she’d known she wouldn’t have got the pension later. Quite right we find compensation from the tax money paid by (among others) all those young tax payers who can’t even afford a deposit on a first home in order to compensate this old lady for having to pay the running costs of her second home from another source of funds.

How dare they change the colours of a flag? This has never happened before
  11. 3 points
If we are going to criticise the kit, based on the flag, why is there any blue in it at all? The flag is red and white, for the badge the roses are red and the lions on all other heraldic devices are gold, so the kit should be a combination of red, white and gold! No-one (other than me) ever got worked up about that in the past did they? All this nonsense with prats like Barton leading the charge and even Starmer playing the patriot. What a load of **** and storm in a tea cup.

4 lions on our chests😂 The flag wavers have been out in force on talk radio this morning. One Taxi Driver was so upset he could barely work. Bless.

Any points reduction wouldnt be until they next play in the premier league ...however the uncertainty cant help. Imagine knowing that if you got promotion you'd start on a minus in the premier league. Godfrey £25 -Everton Omobamudele -£11m+ -Forest Maddison -£25m -Leicester We're selling to balance our books as a self funding club , to clubs who cant afford it and are cheating the system Hope justice is done

In bocca al lupo 🦮 @nutty nigel…what a wonderful ambassador for the PUPs, a good man and a fine friend 🤗….….thank you so much for all you do and all you have done. £29,000 plus…amazing 🥂🥂💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼…what a proud, proud achievement 🦮🦮💫💫💫🙌🙌🙌…. Not sure I’ve got anything very original or insightful this International week, so I’ll bond with @Hammond1612 for: Argentina vs El Salvador - Home win 🏡 🏆 As for the ever-helpful @KiwiScot…I also really like @PurpleCanary’s selection of: Man City W vs Man Utd W .…. I suspect City will score several more than Utd, though Utd always have goals in them across the side 👍 Parma

There is no coincidence in the timing. They have cashed in to protect their investment. They're not stupid and they know if Ipswich don't go up and the manager leaves their investment is worthless. It's the business equivalent of cashing in early with Bet365

I have tried to explain before . This is how pension funds/ investment work. ORG were managing funds for a pension fund . They have sold (nearly) half of their investment to another investment company. They put the proceeds into the fund . The fund may well have rules about how and when assets are sold , and the increase in the value is exactly the point of a pension pot. It doesn’t mean there is anymore or any less money available . It does mean that the pension fund will be pleased with an increased value and cashed in. It could be argued that this increase is due to potential returns (in the prem) rather than actual.

This takes me back to Saturday afternoons as a kid, and in particular wrestling. I was fascinated by one wrestler in particular called Kendo Nagasaki, who always fought with a mask which he never took off . He had a samurai honour theme, throwing salt around the ring before fighting, and had sworn only to take the mask off when he lost. There’s a good Arena on iPlayer about Peter Blake painting his portrait. So when I heard Stuart Maconie play a band called Kendo Nagasaki, I really wanted to like it, which I did, they remind me a bit of The Comet is Coming. When I found out what instruments comprise the band, I liked them even more. Have a listen and try to guess.

Reminds me of this which I read earlier today: “Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times.”. Or, as argued here: https://unearnedwisdom.com/strong-men-create-good-times-analysis/, maybe this would be more accurate: “Hard times, if optimally gauged so as not to produce too much stress, create a few strong men, sometimes, who create good times, if the good times are excessively good, they create a few weak men, who create hard times, but mostly for themselves, and only sometimes.”

All these rules do are keep the top clubs in their place and unthreatened. Talk of Villa having to sell players to keep on the right side of these rules even if they finish top 4. Either let it be a full on money spaffing free for all or put it some rules to actually level the playing field. This half way house **** does nothing for the good of the game.

As someone who despairs at the pushing up and up of state pension age my inclination is to side with these women but the more you read the less and less sympathetic I get. The case of the woman who had done enough planning to know how much state pension she'd get for her early retirement spreadsheet but hadn't bothered to double check when she'd get it is a case in point. The only benefits I'm entitled to are the free hours of childcare. I may get child benefit when the government raises the salary threshold. Best believe I'm going to be making sure I understand these policies properly before I start including any money from them in my budgets.

He's just been interviewed by Pink'Un and there are discrepancies aplenty in that interview on what he has been quoted as saying in the past - the biggest being he was going to try another sport entirely, yet he talks extensively about "conversations" he has been having with English football clubs, even positing the potential he might end up at a National League club. The guy don't arf spout a yarn!

Even more fingers in that very small pie. I now note that TWTD have presented it as investment in the club. They have bought a 40% share of the club. Not the same thing. The more these things mushroom, the more nefarious they become.

My old Grandad has lost his rag over this. Reckons he didn’t fight and die in two world wars to have King Prince Charles’s flag disrespected like this. If it wasn’t for the Brexit he voted for, I reckon he’d emigrate.

They were wanting access to his phone records based on the racing post article. I don't know what that consists of and how intrusive it is, but that could be a factor for someone in Barnes' position? i.e. Did they want access to his phone and private texts, or simply a log of who he had called over a certain period?
  35. 1 point
Sure - goals scored isn't the whole story - but as I said earlier in the the thread it is the single most important metric for assessing the performance of an attacking player. I think Mumba has got a couple of assists this season and I don't think Fassnacht has any, but even if you add Mumba's goals and assists together it's still less than Fassnacht in quite a lot more minutes played.

Note that I did say 'coincided'. Despite my dislike of Webber, I doubt very much whether the upturn in form since he left is anything more than coincidence, even if I wouldn't mind another stick to beat him with 🙂 His player recruitment was very mixed, although I accept that the good ones were very good - Buendia, Pukki, Sara, Sainz. I'm still delighted he's gone, though. He'd overspent his time here, he'd become toxic, and I suspect even he knew that.

You've posted about a very serious and profound subject TR. I took lost a dear friend 9 years ago...I'm serious when I say that I reckon he was the nicest and best bloke in the whole of the Leeds area. I doubt there was one person who thought differently too. Someone who took interest in others and someone I could never be like because he had all the charm and humanity. But, he was unsettled beneath and his passing will be felt for all the rest of the lives for his two daughters. It's why I harp on (a lot) and have done over the years, about being kind to people. You don't know what is going on. In terms of this forum, there's no point in getting upset about any views expressed by others. Views are nothing, not real in any physical sense. A view doesn't endure. But... it's our judgement about them that can upset us. When I remind myself of that when I need to, I realise the answer is there. Unfortunately some folk can worry forever and the issue becomes a big trouble for them. Our local farmer (getting on now) spent a good quarter of an hour just outlining his life and worries the other day...I've never spoken to him before. It was obviously playing heavily in his mind and I was just on my dog walk. Is it unmanly to wish people were kind? Or to call for it? I think it's the opposite actually, because you're taking on responsibility and a risk. You're showing some balls. People like to label others so they can feel okay in themselves I sometimes assume. I could be wrong. They appear to take on a tribal position and then find an enemy in anyone who thinks differently. That's what I've learned from this forum (20 years in April I will have been a poster). If ever there have been arguments too and I've tried to intervene because I love seeing harmony between people, even those who feel very differently about the world, I've always failed. Yet, I never think of giving up on doing that despite my obvious lack of influence. Anyway, just some thoughts your post has given me and I really appreciate a poster bothering to do it. I see by the reactions also that I'm not alone. Thanks.

I watched this the other day after hearing it on Hannah French's slot. Love the cellos! Julia Kent might be worth a listen too - she sometimes does darker pieces, often using loops. Edit: I will copy one here.

I think the first COVID lockdown did engender a similar sense of togetherness in this country. There was a general feeling of 'we're all in this together, pulling in the same direction' for the first few months. However it frayed quite quickly and that sort of unity only lasts so long.

I don't think it's fair to attack Knapper for the loan of SvH, even if he turns out to be a total flop. Knapper has said publicly several times that the club had been chasing SvH for quite a while, which means that this originated under Webber and was perhaps almost fait accompli by the time Knapper had his feet under the table. It's like blaming an incoming CEO for poor sales figures two months after he arrives. Let's give Knapper some time and see what he can do.

The Minister for Common Sense has had her nose in the trough and is in a bit of bother, Will she resign? I wonder how many more stories of this kind there are to come. Last year McVey wrote in the Daily Mail that she did not want you to see a single penny of your hard-earned cash wasted on unnecessary public spending. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2024/mar/21/esther-mcvey-expenses-flat-philip-davies

I suspect a hefty dose of survivor bias and the Pollyanna effect explains this notion that war made people happier. Would be amazed if there are any longitudinal studies for happiness dating back to World War Two.

That was the tragedy of Farke's second promotion squad - with Skipp and some tweaks in the set up, the game management was so much better than the first promotion season and the whole thing just seemed so controlled in comparison. It boded so well for another crack at the Premier League. But then Spurs changed manager and wanted another look at Skipp. And for whatever reason Emi moved on and suddenly the blueprint was aflame ...

We had a Ukrainian woman staying with us for a year-her daughter was one year old when the war began-she may well have been killed if her family had stayed in the Ukraine. I’m not sure what your point about a Russian baby being killed is but my point is that this is all on Putin.
