Thought he deserved a separate thread of his own. His highlights reel for us will be something else! Arrived with minimal fanfare and took a little bit of time to get going but once he did, what a great player he was for us! That free kick vs Sheff Weds was stuff of folklore!

Super Mario will always be associated with one of the most joyous few weeks in our history. He was absolutely stellar in the run in of our last promotion season; starting with a fantastic individual display away at Leeds. He then followed this up with that never to be forgotten 97th minute free kick against Sheffield Wednesday and then a 25 yard stunner into the top corner in the match against Blackburn where we clinched promotion. As if that wasn't enough he then scored from 20 yards away at Villa to seal the title. Those few weeks were a fantastic time to be a City fan and Mario will always be the player we think of when recalling it. Thanks for the great memories Mario and the very best of luck wherever your career takes you next.

Has there been some development on this today? I don't doubt Johnson knew of the Super League plan some days ahead. If you are Ed Woodward and you want to know what the government's reaction will be to some novel proposal you talk to the PM, and if not to them then to their chief of staff. And the chief of staff will usually either give the thumbs up or the thumbs down or say the government really doesn't care either way. And if the chief of staff isn't sure what the response should or would be (which one can see happening in this case) they will ask the PM. But either way they will brief the PM on the plan. And that is without the apparent fact that Woodward bumped into Johnson in the corridor at Number 10 afterwards and according to sources came away, either from talking to Johnson or from what the chief of staff had said, or both, with the impression the government either liked the plan or at least would not stand in its way.

I think you'd have to double it, at least, to get Tottenham interested. However, I very much doubt Skipp would consider a permanent move away from Spurs at the moment - he is on the cusp of the first team there and will definitely want to try and stake his claim this summer. Even if Spurs told Norwich tomorrow that they would allow Skipp to come on loan again, I expect the player would say he would like to do pre-season at Tottenham to see if he can work his way into the new manager's plans. It is such a vital position for Norwich to recruit that they can't afford to hang around waiting for Tottenham, or Skipp, to make their decision.

is it just me that doesn’t want this season to end? Winning the league, record points haul, maybe getting to 99 points, never as many away wins ? Have City ever been so dominant in so many games? At such a difficult time, it’s certainly helped me personally to get through it too. Next season will certainly be back to reality with a bump. I just hope we can keep the spine of the team together, strengthen sensibly and not have a horrendous injury crisis. And not get shafted too often by VAR. 😳

Postives outweigh the negatives when thinking about Mario. The posts here speak for itself, Mario will always be remembered fondly for his exquisite moments, a fine Canary who will always be welcomed in Norfolk on any return visits. All the best Mario, you have made a mark in our hearts.

She's one of those idiots that think people are voting Tory because Labour isn't left enough. Hilarious🤣

I agree here FC. I used to wonder whether Parma was one of those 'stylistic 'accounts on this forum, more about enhancing a personality than being serious. I was wrong in even entertaining that idea. Parma's posts make for a real joy in reading because they provide an insight into a sharp football mind, one that is aligned to the psychology of the game too (don't mean to patronise you Parma should you read this).

"Emi Buendia says he is determined to help Norwich City put up a fight to stay in the Premier League after being a part of the Canaries side who were relegated with a whimper last year". "Buendia has played a vital role in helping the Carrow Road club return to the top-flight at the first time of asking with an outstanding campaign in the Championship".

The nation has waited for more than 100 years for this. Not having Pukki in decent form would be a gigatnic tragedy. It was he who fired the nation to the Euros with 10 goals in 10 matches in the qualies. We have Pohjanpalo and Brentfords Marcus Forss who can score. But Pukki is a talisman for the football team

OOOh get you. Larkmanitis. Where were you from? Heartsease Towers? Oh you are so posh. And accordingly you talk siht. This country allows Murdoch to control the media. Where else would a single person be able to control so much. In NZ, he was banned from owning anymore than 41% of a single newspaper group.

The Red Wall fascination is a symptom of FPTP as much as anything- no point running up the numbers in London and other cities when that doesn't give you anymore seats. But I do agree 'proper Labour left wing ideas' have changed hugely over the years. Right now Labour has no real answer that can please both the younger, metropolitan cohort who see themselves as internationalists and part of something bigger than just the UK and the older, more traditional working class voters so negatively affected by globalization and the deindustrialization of those heartlands.

You tagged the wrong guy, Tilly! Don't know who this imposter is. We'll take a night of shore leave on Friday in the charming* port city of Kingston-upon-Hull (we'll dock next to Hull City's own vessel, HMS PĂss League One, which they bought on the cheap from Ipswich), before travelling by limousine motorcade to Barnsley and back on Saturday. If you've got any mates in Yorkshire Constabulary, a couple of motorcycle outriders would be a touch. *UK City of Culture, 2017

We're in the Premier League, no reason to move anywhere unless it is to a top six side. He seems happy, settled with young family, is appreciated at the club and will be the main man in our campaign. The only reason to move to a lesser club like Leeds or Villa would be money and that should never be the main motivation for a footballer who is already on good money. Yes, money is obviously part of any equation, but really, once you are at a Premier League club, there is no advantage footballing wise in moving to a club unless it is one of the very top ones.

Dowell is an interesting one for me. He has basically replaced Vrancic, with whom he shares many similarities including both strengths and deficiencies. They are both technically gifted but I would argue Mario is a bit more refined while Kieran is still a little raw. They also both lack a little physically, but I think Dowell has a good chance to improve this side of his game where Vrancic's pace is only going in one direction. The main thing is that Dowell is only 23 and, barring further injury, will continue to improve all areas of his game. It's hard to tell just how good he will get or whether he will successfully step up to the Premier League. I trust Farke and Webber to get the best out of him and, now that he has the first team place, he will certainly be given a chance to prove himself. I do, however, hope that we sign someone who can provide competition and cover across the three attacking midfield positions.

A beautiful man and an exquisite footballer. His only flaws, and surely the reason we are letting him go, are his age and physicality: he is slightly lacking in pace and cannot improve that at this stage of his career. He has genuinely world-class ability with the ball matched by his creativity and vision. If he had the physical attributes to match then he would be playing for a much bigger club than Norwich. I'll never forget the way he almost single-handedly took us over the line to the title in 2019. I still think he could do a job in this squad and I really hope we don't look back on his departure with regret like with some previous club legends.

I google things he says sometimes and I learn about football. You have to always be prepared to learn, however far you agree with what you are reading.

Yes that is absolutely the counterpoint. I very much hope you are correct. It would indeed be truly exceptional body of work to have created something that endures long after key architects are gone. It would be excellent if alongside the remarkable development and progression that an education in the methodology has taken place throughout the building - including its upper echelons - to ensure no regression to the mean and the ‘hands-off’ attitudes of the past. I still think he could do a job in this squad and I really hope we don't look back on his departure with regret like with some previous club legends." The problem with that Petrix is that to keep him on would add to the club's wages bill (at Premier League levels as well.) We all know that we need to strengthen the team in certain areas. To get the right players we will be competing with other clubs in a market where wages on offer are a major draw. The more we spend on these "could do a job players" or these "sentiment" players (AT for his role in the dressing room etc. etc.) the less will be available to offer prospective 'crucial' signings. Vrancic , Tettey and a few others are not "crucial" for next season.

Hmmm. I agree it is a watershed season, but if we don't survive, Webber and Farke will actually have achieved very little in terms of leaving any legacy or even leaving us in a better place than when they arrived. If we get relegated again - however it happens, they will both be seen as flawed in achievement terms, and suited only to Championship success - two failures at EPL level probably wouldn't get either of them a third shot with a different club. The next 12 months is the culmination of their plan - everything over the last 4 years has led here. Comfortable survival, and they can rightly claim total success and even that they've taken us as far as they can. They would move on with their careers at an all time high. But football is a fickle game, and anything less than that and perhaps the big jobs will have passed them by forever. I expect Farke to stay on if I'm honest, to try to at least establish us in the EPL. Recruitment is very difficult when the head coach hasn't committed.

The fundamental issue is that the Champs-Premier gap is wider and more damaging than any linear, progressiveISO9001 model can handle (or be expected to handle). That paragraph nailed it for me, thanks Parma.

Sad as the day would be, you must be aware there'd be no exodus that wasn't planned for. The very nature of our success is driven by its adaptability in succession planning. I certainly believe we will see Kieran Scott replace Webber in the next 18 months. Would expect Farke to be off too, whether he keeps us up or not. As for the players, they leave Norwich City for big money. Then new ones come in. Its what we do, and as Kieran Scott is a recruitment mastermind, that isn't changing, Webber or not.

Yes, pragmatism is often in short supply on this side of the fence unfortunately. It may be that because I'm not right wing I don't see this sort of thing from their side but from my perspective the Tories don't often go in for purity tests in the way Labour supporters do.

the name stays, true legend of our recent history. As you say, he survived multiple managers, promotions and relegations and adapted to multiple styles of play. No mean feat that. In truth, he's been a fringe player for 2 or 3 years now so its probably time to move on so long as we have something lined up. To lose him and his replacement (Skipp) on the same day is a tough one. Hopefully it means we've nearly got deal 1 for a DM over the line to compete with Lungi. Hopefully Tettey comes back as a coach in the near future but he's clearly still got something to give say in the Norwegian league while he earns his coaching stripes.

Best idea so far. I wonder how many of the owners would :- a) be financially able to do it b) be prepared to do it c) put the club into administration to get away with not paying. Greedy b@stards.

Whilst I agree it is unlikely he'll be back, it's not that clear cut. Whoever comes in at Spurs might want to spend big on sorting out the midfield. Skipp is still young, no guarantees they'll give him game time over experience if they bring someone in. A premier league loan might turn out to be his next venture, we just don't know what Spurs are planning

I wouldn’t want Zimbo leaving. Model pro, not at his best as hasn’t been able to forge a partnership this season. Always gives everything, and the shirt matters to him. In an end of season battle, he is someone the club could rely on to be thinking of the team, and not his agent to keep him up elsewhere.
