I don't think that that is true Ricardo. The Conservative Party has always seen power as its raison d'etre but the Liberals/ Social Democrats and the Labour Party have always had an ideology which, at times has hampered them electorally. Politicians have always been economical with the truth, but I can never recall an election with quite such obvious lies. Only the Greens seem to act with any principle at the moment.

VAR will take some getting used to, and people don't like change. Sure, it needs some refinement, but in the cold light of day there are fewer demonstrably wrong decisions than there were without it. It was horrible having that euphoria from Krul's penalty save wiped out, but once people get used to it it'll be less annoying than it is now. Rightly or wrongly, it's here to stay. As for Wilder, he's a great manager who's done a brilliant job and has eaten a lot of humble pie since 'that game' at Bramall Lane. No ill-feeling here. However, for all the moaning about Shelvey's goal, what's the first rule of football? Play to the whistle. If a team of under-8s did that their manager would be livid.

Antisemitism has become a weapon used by both sides- I just don't believe many of the Tory party/Tory voters making a huge stink about it would care anywhere near as much if they didn't think it would score political points. Equally, I'm really tired of people on the left minimizing the issue and telling Jewish people or people with these concerns that they should just hold their nose and vote for the Labour party because it doesn't matter as much as other issues. Politics in this country is a horrible, ****ty mess right now and I wouldn't blame anyone for spoiling their ballots.

Farke holds the key to whether we can stay up in that he has to change us from being too predictable. He deploys a zonal marking system with all 10 outfield players in our box and it frankly doesn't work. Change to man to man marking occasionally, and it gives defenders a chance to win the first ball. Leave someone like Hernandez on the halfway line and they will leave two back to mark him, plus the fact we have an outlet should we win that first header. Most teams know by now that we pass the ball out from Krul to a back four player and then across the back four and when pressed back to Krul, who under pressure has to hastily clear. I lost count of how many times it went from Krul to Godfrey to Byram who stopped turned around and passed it back to Godfrey and then onto Krul. The opposition know that all they have to do is press us and we end up giving it away. When we move the ball forward with pace to our wide players, such as some recent long passes from Zimmermann it immediately allows us to push more players up into the opposition half and put them under pressure. I still believe he can keep us up, but he has to stop us from being too predictable.

Actually I have to hold my nose and suspend rational argument discussing anything with you as any nuances of opinion are well beyond your understanding. It is very obvious where you are coming from and your political spin and untruths on well established facts. The Corbyn wreath laying event was investigated in 2018 and debunked. Its why it doesn't come up now. The choice before us next week is between somebody who has a very loose association with the truth (sacked twice already for lying) , indeed doesn't know what it is, lies to the Queen and everybody else it seems, has managed to push back several inquiries into his and his parties actions until after the election and somebody who may be inept, hamfisted and naive but who at least has good intentions. I dont want either to be in an unfettered majority... oddly enough I'd have to hold my nose and vote for somebody else if I thought Corbyn would form a majority. What I will always argue for is the truth and honesty. Facts not smears or downright lies. So that counts you out.

Well who you vote for is your own business but you are quite clearly an advocate for them, so it seems reasonable to assume you will also vote for them. I think I've made it pretty clear that I'm not defending the Labour party (or happy either for that matter!), I just dislike your hypocrisy and double standards - is that clear enough for you?
  15. 1 point
I think the answer is probably neither - although Momentum is often billed as a huge, highly motivated and well disciplined campaigning organisation that was going to play a significant role in getting Labour elected but other than the huge bit, that appears to be an urban myth. I've certainly seen nothing of them in this election which is pretty surprising given that I live in a constituency which is currently a Labour marginal under significant threat from the Lib Dems. The Lib Dems have been very actively campaigning since a couple of days after the election was announced and I expected to also be swamped with Momentum campaigners but have seen next to nothing from Labour and nothing whatsoever from Momentum. Actually the whole concept of Labour having a 'driving force' of any sort seems a tad strange as they appear to have negligible drive or leadership. They have been the most compliant opposition imaginable, failing to make a dint on some of the most inept and incompetent governance this country has ever seen, and their election campaign seems equally lifeless. As for the smokescreen bit I think you are confusing me with your own intentions. I've already made it perfectly clear I have no interest in defending Labour or voting for them, I just find your continual, over the top and unsubstantiated demonising of them quite perverse and hypocritical, when you can't find any outrage or even acknowledgement over the many despicable actions of your own party.

I made exactly the same mistake in 2010 but surely the blame for that fiasco is entirely down to Nick Clegg - if he had aligned himself with Labour instead there would have been far more overlap between the parties' manifestos and policies. Going into partnership with the Tories was an act of stupidity which betrayed most of the people who voted for him and was unsurprisingly severely punished by the voters when they eventually got a chance. Seems pretty clear to me why a PR system would work much better than FPTP, and you can see it working far better in many other European countries. Yes, most have coalition governments but they are usually coalitions between like-minded parties or at least parties which agree on the major issues - none of that was the case in 2010 between the Tories and the Lib Dems.
  23. 1 point
In 2010 the Lib Dems got 23% of the vote for less than 9% of the seats. A more proportional system would have meant maybe they wouldn't have needed to abandon so much of their manifesto to form that coalition.
  24. 1 point
Yep, Amadou only had something like a 63% pass success rate, and he was only there to keep it simple. Compare that with Trybulls 89%, or even Tettey's 97%, or Stiepermanns 89% and you can see just how much he struggled with the basics.

I'm equally fed up with this witch hunt. The far left and far right are two sides of the same coin - simple moronic solutions without the capacity to see beyond their 'faith'. The same person that becomes a far left intolerant lefty in another family grows up to be a far right intolerant righty. Probably due to too much inbreeding and not enough new (immigrant) genes. I note there are no comments on here from anybody who is actually Jewish - just point scoring 'in their name' or flippant quips. However let me give you a little insight from my family on Brexit. The 'older' generation' than me (and well educated retired first generation professionals well into their dotage ) generally voted Brexit - the 80M 'Turks' actually was quoted to me - it frightened them as was intended - but where then harangued by their children (all now in their late 50s - yes and fully Jewish) in dismay pointing out that they themselves had been 'welcomed' into this country as immigrants - growing up in the in the East End. The argument here is to get some balance. Yes I'm sure a lot of Jews consider leaving - I consider many things most of which I quickly reject as absurd. However I don't play political games with it. A plague on all the racists and anti-semites in all the political parties. Fully examine THEM ALL.

Spot on - apart from spoiling your ballot. I'm sure there are a huge number of people with very similar views and yet most respond by either choosing the lesser of the two evils or not voting at all. Nothing will improve this horrible mess of our politics until a lot more people reject the binary choice between the two unpleasant failed major parties on offer and vote for the minor parties who will one day (hopefully) will give our electoral system the upgrade that is 100 years overdue. When/if (and sadly it's probably a big if) we have a fit for purpose democracy then we will have a much better and wider choice of parties, and an extreme right (or left) wing government like the current one and potentially the next one as well, would be almost impossible. We would have governments that actually had some sort of genuine justification that they represented the 'will of the people'.

More like we need to get Brexit done so we then have to move Thatcherism on Steroids (minus her single market.....). Free market rules for everybody or on yer bike. Isn't that what the Tory right (or now just the Tory party) always wanted? Just be careful what you wish for......

Brighton lost three of their last five games. Norwich lost three of the last five games. Villa and Everton also. Not much to choose between any of them. For worse form, West Ham and Bn'mth have lost four of their last five games. Watford look down and out. As for Sheff Utd, their form has started to tail off, not won in the last four games, their bubble may have burst. The conclusion is that there is everything to play for, so no reason to feel down about our situation. We know what this league is like - about ten clubs are at any time only one or two bad results from dropping down to near the bottom three. That fact alone will keep us competitive, as long as we pick up the occasional win or draw. So plenty of time to go and plenty of points to play for and room to improve as the season progresses.

We never watch it either and agree with your sentiments too. Jeremy can't be honest and say he doesn't watch it because it's well known that he has similar views to your own, which wouldn't go down well in the middle of an election campaign. Hence why Etchingham brought up the subject in the first place.
  33. 1 point
He is in the grip of Momentum which has deeply anti Semitic views, that’s why he is unable to deal with problem. In the unlikely event that he wins a majority government it will be run by Momentum, a group of left wing extremists who will ruin this country. The Labour Party that you and I know, the one that kicked out the Militant Tendency sadly doesn’t exist atm. The shame is that a few on here are so anti Tory that they are prepared to ignore the cancer at the heart of Labour atm. It needs to be challenged at all levels to return the Labour Party to what it should be, and one which I could then support.

Don't think we (i.e. the family) have watched the Queen's speech for 20 - 30 years., nowadays the television is rarely on at all on Christmas Day and certainly not at 3pm. Anyway I can't imagine the Queen is going to have anything worthwhile to say this year unless it's an apology for her failure to exercise due diligence or show any responsibility in her role as Head of State to protect our Parliament from abuse by malign undemocratic politicians. But I won't be holding my breath for that.............................or for a proper Head of State. IMO Christmas is a time for focussing on the family and trying to forget about ****show surrounding us for a few days.
  35. 1 point
Was Etchingham really trying to turn the Queen's speech into a line of attack? I don't watch the Queen's speech as I have no interest in being lectured by some no-mark who has been born "better" than others. I prefer to listen to people who have actually achieved something a bit more substantial than simply being born and milking the state for a life of privelege whilst giving very little back. Sounds like Corbyn has the right idea on Christmas, why spoil it by listening to a parasite with no experience of real life who wouldn't **** on us if we were on fire? Viva la Republic

We have a squad that is good enough when it is one its game. but last night too many players were not - and the wilted under the press. The movement, position and touch of the players receiving the ball was poor last night and when added to slow passing *& too many touches and inaccurate passing absolutely emphasised Farkes point about small error snowballing, impacting our own confidence and encouraging an increase in pressing intensity of the opponents press. There was a lot of focus on Amadou last night but the whole right flank was particularly poor, & he was joined by Max, Todd and Kenny who all lost possession at least 25% of the time. Add in the continued problems of lack of focus at set pieces (kenny and godfrey found wanting last night) and it wasnt great. Continue with those lapses and we will struggle to stay up - we need greater consistency. Where do I think our key weaknesses are? Primarily it is CDM. Tettey has shocked me, again, with just how pivotal & consistent he is; we miss his leadership when he is not there. I think Amadou will get there but is clearly adpating to the pace of the prem and will hopefully improve his consistency over the coming months. But the tettey partner is a problem; Trybull is anonymous too often, kenny just not suited to being there, leitner or mario may be the answer but at the moment no one is pulling up trees to be the player next to tettey. It is where we lose games, when its good we do well - we just dont seem able to do it week in week out at the moment. Secondly, I would say the number 10 role currently filled by Kenny / Steipi. Both have good games but neither are quite good enough to deliver consistently. We do need a more physical presence in that part of the pitch. Perm 2 from Onel, Todd, Emi & Mario from the other roles and we are would remain potent.

There is almost certainly no one better for the job who would come to us, to my mind. I would go further and say that I doubt even a Klopp or Pep would stack up better for saving us from the drop - not that this is their forte. Farke has done so much good with what little he’s been given (and had taken away), and as you say he has implemented a unique style of play which took about 15 months to materialise. He has bought players which suit the system, and transformed them from nowhere whilst also improving our youth players in a previously unforeseen manner. I genuinely think our season would nosedive without him. So Farke IN wherever we finish this season. If it’s a bottom 3 finish, as is looking likely, I would really feel confident in bouncing back up providing our team isn’t completely dismantled and believe we are probably the best equipped side for relegation. In fairness despite the moaning last night, from myself as well, I think everyone respects and appreciates him for his work thus far. I haven’t seen any calls for him to go, even from the trolls!
  44. 1 point
I don't think there is any secret about that, given all the comments about the aim being a top-26 club. The idea was to try to improve the squad somewhat, without lumbering ourselves with expensive long-term contracts, and if we stayed up this season that would be fine, but the assumption probably was that we would not. I think two partly unforeseeable factors have come into play. One being not so much the unprecedented injury crisis but the specific loss of the three most experienced out of our four centre-backs, which had a knock-on effect on midfield. The other being how many of our squad from last season have struggled to make the step up in class, either because they are young and still learning and/or because they reached their limit in the Championship. You can make a case that this applies one way or another to Aarons, Godfrey, Trybull, Stiepermann, Heise, Srbeny and Leitner. And you can throw in a permanently injured Drmic, and a question as to why Vrancic is not playing. Given our finances we simply could not have afforded to bump up the squad with potential replacements for anywhere near all those players. If there was a mistake it was to rely on two players; Klose and Drmic, with bad injury records.

    A. Without any question for me. People are entitled to a different opinion and pick B, but if they do, they're wrong! 😉 I genuinely think I'd give up following football if we sacked Farke.
  46. 1 point
Strange thing is people’s heads are being turned, yet it seems some clubs much bigger than us are hovering, just waiting for the fans to turn. People say it’s great to see the youngsters, trust me if Alladyce or Pulis was to come in you won’t be seeing much more of them. Farke has not failed as part of his remit is to coach and develop players into hot property. His successes to date - Maddison, Godfrey, Aaron’s, Lewis, Zimmerman, McClean, Pukki, Hernandez, Cantwell, Krul. There is no way Farke will be leaving.

More Leftist lunacy: WOKE WORLD By Titania McGrath I do try to be supportive of the working classes, but when it comes to politics they really should just leave it to their betters. After all, we know that democracy doesn’t work if people vote the wrong way. And the problem with these working-class types is that there are just so many of them. You would have thought with their lack of hygiene and poor comprehension skills they would have died out by now. Many of them seem determined to support parties that will implement the result of the Brexit referendum, which is plainly absurd. For a start, the population clearly didn’t know what they were voting for. When they said they wanted to leave the EU, they didn’t necessarily think that meant leaving the EU. Try asking any Brexit supporter why they voted Leave. The answer is always the same: “A bus told me to.” Such are the dire consequences of universal suffrage. Everyone mocked Anna Soubry when she tweeted that Brexit is “the most important decision facing our country since WW3”, but I have no doubt whatsoever that Brexit could lead to a fourth world war. They won’t be laughing then. And now with a general election looming we might well be facing a similar catastrophe. Apparently, due to our archaic “first past the post” system, there is a risk that if Boris Johnson receives the most votes he might actually win. This is unacceptable. This is why I applaud Jeremy Corbyn’s suggestion that we lower the voting age to 16. I would take this a step further and suggest that only the under 12s should be allowed to vote. As Whitney Houston said, “The children are our future.” And we can always threaten to take away their smartphones if they don’t vote Labour. Or how about this for a solution? Let’s allow everybody to vote in the general election, but make it illegal to opt for the Tories or the Brexit Party. That way, we can stop a fascist party from getting elected, but we still have democracy. It’s a win-win.
