Dean Smith will have to have to give a great deal of thought to his team for tomorrow night after the result, the way we played and the difference the subs made.

My suggestion, for what it is worth.

Krul

Aarons Omobamidele Hanley Byram

Cantwell Nunez McLean Ramsey

Sargent Pukki

Gunn Gibson Sara Sinani Dowell Hernandez Idah

A bit risky starting with both McLean and Byram?  But then it’s pointless having one in the bench if we would play better with them on the pitch (let’s not do the Kenny debate again).

I would have thought the comments about Sara are more aimed at keeping him happy. We might see him off the bench but he won’t start.

With Gibbs injured, now is as good a time as any to start Sara. I suspect it will be McLean for Birmingham but I think Sara will be in sooner rather than later.

By the sounds of the presser Byram wont start again so I would guess smith will go with:

Krul

Aarons Hanley Omobamidele McLean

Nunez, Sara, Cantwell

Sargent, Pukki, Ramsey

I agree, wouldn't do changes for changes sake. Kenny on the bench for LB cover AND cover for midfield makes sense. Byram at LB and Sara to start with Kenny to come on at 60(?)

I wouldn't be unhappy with that line up

It would be a bit risky to start McLean and Byram, the games are coming thick and fast. Also, I'm not sure about moving Sargent out to the right wing straight from the start so I don't think Pukki will start either.

I'd bring in Cantwell for Dowell and Sara for Gibbs. Leave Sam at LB if he's recovered enough.

Do Brum have anyone on the right wing that would trouble Kenny? I don't think so, this might be one match we can afford to rest Byram and play Kenny. But I wouldn't want it to become a habit ......

I think Todd has to start. He is becoming one of the unsung heroes. He is doing a good job quietly and while I think Onel had to be in to cover Keeny while he was there at LB, I think Byram's fitness means Todd is a better bet.

It is a tricky choice facing Smith, 3 straight wins in the league, personally I would not change a winning team, unless there is a injury, yet Smith did drop Cantwell following the Huddersfield game. Personally;

Gunn

Aarons Omobalidele Hanley Mclean

Dowell Nunez Sara

Pukki Sargent Cantwell

I think the pretty unconvincing manner of the first 60 does give him scope to change a winning team this time out. Can’t see anyone complaining if Ramsey, Byram and Pukki get on at least and with Gibbs injured it adds a question mark that really only two players that are fit can fill in Kenny and Sara. I think there’ll be 4 changes at least

I would choose this 11, but, I am not entirely sure what formation or if Sargent or Pukki go upfront.

No idea of the team for tomorrow but do want to push back a bit against the idea of not changing a winning side.

We have a large squad and when the games come every three days (+ travel to away games) we should use it. It's one of our big advantages in this league.

I wonder if Sunderland becomes the blueprint for away games? Keep it tight, stay in the game, then introduce more attackers and creative players once the opposition starts to tire.

Will do for me. Cantwell got to work if in team to start otherwise maybe Sara although doubt he would last 90 + minutes just yet.

Very few seem to choose Dowell whose eye for a forward pass has contributed to many of our goals.

I'd only change Sara for Gibbs.

I suspect that means they don't want to rush Byram in either. So could be straight Sara for Gibbs swap.

We have a big squad of good players.   Ramsey (Villa’s player) only gets in the squad when we have no options!    Cantwell, Sinani, Hernandez, Dowell, Rowe, Springett, Nunez, Sara first!

I think that I'm with you Nutty. Pukki and Cantwell as impact subs looked pretty effective on Saturday.

Dowell has to play, as TVB pointed out a few days ago, he is our best attacking option (perhaps Nunez is ahead of him now)

It seems that two names are automatically included on Smith’s team sheet regardless of their performances, that being McLean and Dowell. I would not be unhappy to see both of them dropped, please!

It’s no coincidence our upturn in form has also seen Kieran dowell given a run in the team, McLean is alright at this level, I’d be interested to know who you’d pick in their place

I think today we'll see if Deano is a 'Tinkernan' or if he prefers a settled line-up. Obviously Gibbs has to be replaced and Byram might not be recovered.

It will be interesting to see if Dowell is selected again, if Hernandez starts, if the formation is tweaked to accommodate Pukki.

Looks like the new impact player coming off the bench is now 'AJ' as Deano calls him. The lad is doing pretty well ro be fair.

I think we have to start Byram at LB if he's in any way capable of playing, even if just for an hour. We need Kenny in the centre of the park as he's the only experienced head in there with any kind of physical presence (except for, possibly, the unknown quantity that is Sara). With three games in a week there's no harm in changing one or two.

Krul

Aarons Omobamidele Hanley Byram
McLean Sara
Cantwell Dowell Nunez
Sargent

I'd also consider Pukki starting ahead of Sargent depending on relative fitness/workload, but I think it's important to have a specialist 'one up top' who can continue to put the pressure on over the whole 90 minutes, especially with so much midfield firepower on the bench.

Subs: Gunn, Gibson, Sara, Ramsey, Sinani, Hernandez, Pukki.
