Ulfotto 832 Posted January 2, 2023 They are having a weird season no, they have won 5 games including both the Manchester teams and now Liverpool but have failed to beat any of the teams around them. Methinks you cannot sustain that as a bottom half team. 1

A quick look at the stats suggested without those three “bonus” wins we would have been in deep trouble. The following season we won none of games against the top teams and were relegated. True indeed but most Yellows totally dismissed Brentford in an 'entitled' sense that we were somehow 'superior'. Look at how they played and did far more than just 'survived' last season. Never mind said those bitter Yellows, they will collapse in their second season. You know like that other awful club Sheff. Utd. Now Brentford stand on 26 (Yes - 26!!) points after only 18 games. Perhaps someone should remind those 'entitled' Yellows just how many points we managed to scrape in our last two pathetic PL seasons.
By Hook or Ian crook 943 Posted January 2, 2023 Many on here were saying how they would all fall apart this season and there’s no way they could sustain it. Wonder how those are feeling now.
alex_ncfc 687 Posted January 2, 2023 In Brentford's last 4 games, they've beaten Man City and West Ham away, drawn with Spurs, and just beaten Liverpool. Every single time we go up, we always look like the one of the 3 promoted sides who are most scared to death of anyone, let alone getting results and form against big sides like that. We would'nt get those 4 results if we spent 5 years up there!....sorry,on a right rant on all topics 2nite. Just totally peed off.

Capt. Pants 5,152 Posted January 2, 2023 Brentford have a fantastic manager a clear philosophy, togetherness and style of play that we simply do not have. Plus they were missing Toney. We had that with Farke but it petered out all rather quickly. Brentford have never really looked like being relegated, yet.

Both have clubs have taken time, but haven’t departed from their upward trajectory since leaving League One.
norfolkngood 1,179 Posted January 2, 2023 The Manager and recruitment work so well at Brentford their signings just slot into the team not only that they play good football and always give 100 % When we went up we looked far stronger but now somehow the gap is massive

NorthCarolinaYellow 199 Posted January 3, 2023 Simple: Their player retention and recruitment upon getting promoted was miles better than us. Plus they’re physically PL-level and tough.
king canary 8,944 Posted January 3, 2023 I know it is hindsight but when you look at Brentford it does remind me how big a missed opportunity our first promotion under Farke was. We went up with a young team brimming with confidence and momentum and then gave them no support in terms of reinforcements. Brentford didn't spend loads but they added quality and depth in a couple of positions and built on the momentum they had. 1
aBee 176 Posted January 3, 2023 Would it be deeply awful of me to say the answer to this question is Webber? You have a good set up, ground, commercial facilities, training ground, much more revenue on and off the field, no competing clubs within nearly 100 miles, history, a style/reputation, several recent years in the PL and parachute payments. Basically you’re all set up to be like us in not relying on the largesse of an owner (I know Benham is personally wealthier than Delia but if you take off the cost of the new ground and bearing operating losses while at the old one he’s not put a huge amount in net of transfer profit). How many really good players has Webber brought in over the last 4 years? Was splurging on the training ground a better immediate use of funds than establishing in the PL (we put ours on hold until we stayed up and I’m sure our ramshackle set of portacabins was no more impressive than what you’d had before). I think, as you are about to have a lot of your squad out of contract in the summer (the Athletic said only 11 senior players on deals past this season) you may be best off just addressing things from a clean slate rather than aiming for promotion now. Wagner might be a good manager for you because he had half a season of testing out a poor squad before surprisingly taking it up with some good summer buys. But going up this season leaves you with only the Forest option, which is crazy, too expensive and quite likely to fail. If Webber hasn’t got an exciting half dozen+ players lined up, find a DoF who can. Good luck!

Foxy2600 392 Posted January 3, 2023 Must be a Brentford fans forte to be as smug as possible. Bankrolled by gambling and a fleabag stadium up until 2 seasons ago. No, I don't want to be Brentford........
repman 808 Posted January 3, 2023 3 or 4 years ago we were right up there as one of the smartest, forward thinking clubs in the country behind only the likes of Brentford, Brighton and Liverpool. I think we had that success and then found ourselves resting on our laurels. Since then most of football (particularly PL clubs) has caught up and now we're middle of the pack without the ability to outspend the rest.
The Raptor 1,589 Posted January 3, 2023 It's Brentford this week is it? I remember when we wanted to be Charlton! How many others have we wanted to be? Is this the clubs version of doing the 92? Altho obviously we'd only ever want to be 90 other clubs as there's one that no one wants to be! Why aren't we Accrington Stanley? They were in a cool advert when I was a kid.
