cambridgeshire canary 7,801 Posted August 26, 2022 (edited) Great timing? 😉 https://safc.com/news/team-news/2022/august/club-statement-alex-neil BONUS: Sunderland fans meltdown over this news (Oohh, they call their fans happy clappers too..) https://www.readytogo.net/smb/threads/club-statement-alex-neil.1587238/ Edited August 26, 2022 by cambridgeshire canary
JPukks 36 Posted August 26, 2022 I don't get this move he has been doing extremely well since he joined Sunderland and believe he could get them challenging for the play offs within a couple of seasons. He could make himself a legend there.

HazzaJet 267 Posted August 26, 2022 Sunderland have confirmed he's in talks with Stoke. Perfect timing, as the caretaker manager would have been in charge for less than 24 hours when the game kicks off tomorrow
Pyro Pete 2,354 Posted August 26, 2022 Apparently Stoke currently have very wealthy owners, so...

Google Bot 3,935 Posted August 26, 2022 (edited) Sunderland is a massive club, what a wally. He won't even be at Stoke for long as the expectation will be high and rich owners like to change their pants often. Truth is, he and his wiggly finger couldn't dare take points from us! 🙂 Edited August 26, 2022 by Google Bot

Google Bot 3,935 Posted August 26, 2022 Just watching the TNC with opposition preview, and didn't realise that Alex was in a 12 month rolling with Sunderland. Maybe he never felt the commitment was there from the top so showed little loyalty when Stoke came knocking?
Indy 3,471 Posted August 26, 2022 All these jobs available, Sunderland a potentially massive club, is Smith not being linked?
Yellow Wal 315 Posted August 26, 2022 5 minutes ago, Indy said: All these jobs available, Sunderland a potentially massive club, is Smith not being linked? No, but Daniel Farke is as well as another dozen or so. The Sunderland fans forum is interesting and funny at the moment.

spencer 1970 214 Posted August 26, 2022 SUFC had a press conference planned for 2pm. They cancelled it at 1.30pm. 👀 My SUFC pal is very worried, he reckon he;s got. The rolling 12 month contract was always and issue.

You can imagine it was an issue, your employer is basically not respecting your value, unless of course they were paying him far more to reflect the lack of security. unique 466 Posted August 26, 2022 If he goes, it is a shame. He seemed a really good fit for Sunderland.

Truth is, he and his wiggly finger couldn't dare take points from us! 🙂 On the face of it a weird move.....massive ' sleeping giant ', huge fanbase, handier for popping over the border, etc, but I remember reading an interview with Neill somewhere before the season started and he seemed strangely subdued. Maybe the 12 month rolling contract wasn't really to his liking but I think there's an issue with not enough funds being available to build a successful team. We've read the book, seen the film and got the T-shirt on that one....
shefcanary 2,955 Posted August 26, 2022 I was at the recent Sheff Utd v Sunderland match with a seat just behind the away dug out. Every time a Sunderland player made a mistake or took what he perceived as the wrong option, Neil turned towards someone in the dug out and moaned like crazy about it. At no point did he seem to actively give any form of encouragement to any of the players. Now I'm not an expert at body language (I haven't joined in that particular thread you'll note), but that struck me as him not being a happy bunny; or maybe he was making a point to the directors about what a crap deal he had been dealt. Capt. Pants 5,014 Posted August 26, 2022 Sunderland just strike me as a bit of a basketcase of a club really. This is great news for us though, perfect timing really.
Grumpy 147 Posted August 26, 2022 I think they are obliged to allow Stoke to talk to him and I guess it would be seen as disrespectful if Neil didn't at least respond to an interview
Midlands Yellow 4,682 Posted August 26, 2022 Stoke must being offering a nice kitty if Neil was tempted. The only problem is he’s not good when given decent funds.
Michael Starr 571 Posted August 26, 2022 Honestly wouldn't surprise me if Alex used this as a way of renegotiating his contract at Sunderland. I wouldn't be surprised if he stayed!
