Deanos biggest game

Recommended Posts

This is Dean Smith's biggest and most important game in his Norwich reign at home to Wigan Saturday, when he took over last season , he had a group of underperforming players, that most weren't prem standard, and opening day of the season ALWAYS throws up some freakish results , so this is a Biggie for him at home to a side that will almost certainly be in a relegation scrap, nothing but a win will be good enough anything less and he'll be walking on thin ice and it will be hard to see a way back for him. OTBC😄

Ridiculous! One game in, and he hasn't even had a single new signing in the team!

Dean has 10 years of managerial achievement behind him. 10 YEARS!!! As if one early season game could make any difference to the perception of him as an excellent manager. Crazy!

Don’t know about biggest game, but another performance like at Cardiff and the crowd will let him and the players know how they feel.

Hopefully Sara or Nunez can provide some much needed creativity 😁

Patience will be tested if we don't at least put in a battling performance and win. A fighting draw might do it, but a dull 0-0 or a loss would be hard to take. The players will know they need to step up for this match after last week, lets see if they can do it!

We had a slow start with Farke on both Championship winning seasons and this is still Farke's team. We haven't actually had a Smith player start yet! However, the minimum on Saturday is a fighting performance and at least 1 point on the board. Anything less then I expect the heat to be turned up a notch.

Maybe not his biggest Game but we have to see some improvement

in fact it is Worse that he has no new signings as this Team should be well drilled by now thats my worry

if he had 3 /4 new signings the excuse could be time to gel

If he can not get this side Performing in the champs after spending this amount of time with these players we are in more trouble than i thought

they might not of been a very good PL team but these players were playing PL football last season so no excuses

Exactly - regardless of the new signings, the squad he has, and the amount of games/time he has had watching them play/coaching them, should be mincing championship teams. The excuses for him are becoming as pathetic as our performances.

I do wonder when we will reach the point that people run out of excuses for Smith:

  • Farke's team
  • Moving away from Farke ball
  • Webbers players not his
  • Needs time to bring in his own style
  • Needs transfer window
  • New players needed
  • Team needs time to gel

It doesn't end Saturday but 10 games in if we aren't seeing what a 'Smith team' is and we're not winning games then I do think we will need to wield the axe sooner rather than later

I have to agree with this. When we talk about other teams like Watford and keep saying that they have same players than last season and therefore have advantage of having already common understanding, we often ignore that we are currently in the same situation. At this point, the current squad really should be able to work together as a team and have capabilities to perform in this level.

Yes, we did lack creativity last season as well and it doesn't miraculously appear from thin air. Maybe we get it with new signings and maybe not. None of them have yet proven to be creative outlets in this level (most of them not in other levels either), so it is also possibility that they are not that for us either.

But when you have squad full of players that are proven on this level, you should manage to create chances even without one magical player that Buendia was for us. You really should be able to do it through team performance.

Excellent manager?! Christ, if someone with Dean Smith's record is called "excellent" you're going to quickly run out of superlatives for people with actual excellent records.

Did well at Walsall, then failed to make the playoffs for Brentford when both Warburton before him and Frank after him managed it. Then took Villa up via the playoffs and a 5th placed finish with the best squad in the league,  having started his Villa career 3 points behind Norwich and ending the season 17 behind them. A 9 figure transfer kitty then bought him a referee-error assisted survival and an impressive, but expected given the outlay, mid table finish before a 5 loss streak and plummet down the table led to his sacking.

Excellent? Objectively not. If he fails with us, it's a below average record.

An insane, desperate appointment by a man (Webber) whose motivation was covering his own ****.

Our first 5 games should be pretty straightforward, on paper. Wigan isn't must win or must not lose, but crikey it will set the scene either way.

4 of the next 5 games (inc leage cup) are at home.

Needs some goods wins and good performances otherwise it will be a particularly restless place.

Carrow Road will become a living hell for the guilty parties

The crowd further turns its volume down half a notch, sending out a punishing message

Fans are caught on camera in overt muttering and  even some scowling incidents, across more than one stand throughout the match

An unprecedented flashpoint occurs in the snake pit towards the end of the match, when an irate supporter curses out loud the manager, SD & board, which is audible for several rows around

Watford kept all their best players we sold ours when we came up.

The squad is devoid of talent and passion. It really in not Dean Smiths vault IMO.

No amount of coaching can improve players without the basics to be a decent professional footballer

Definitely not his biggest game. Arguably, all of those were in the Prem and that didn't work out.

The players are the problem I think. We need passion and togetherness but we seem to be seriously lacking in both depts. There are a few who seem up for the scrap but I think our signings (last season) have been woeful, unfortunately. Said it a million times but when you can't replace your best players and try to head up to the Prem, expecting to win games, then you're already going to war without a gun.

Seems there is much vaunting of the squad, experienced Champs players apparently.  If they are so talented should able to motivate themselves notwithstanding the apparent shortcomings of the coach/manager.  Really don't think they are as good as it is believed, going backwards in facr.  Too many been here too long and others unhappy to be here.   Smith done nothing to influence any team spirit.  Should be able tp get result against Wigan but note still an ineffective midfield, poor defence and limited goal threat.

A defence which has krul , Gunn , Aaron's , big Andy , Gibson , gianoullis , Hanley is a strong defence at this level , limited goal threat ? Pukki the best striker at this level ! , However do agree about the midfield although Sara or Nunez might come good.😄

From now on EVERY game is a big game for Smith and the team. He can no longer be judged on past performances at other clubs. He should only be judged on his performance at THIS club. He has had plenty of time last season and the close season to shape the squad and coach them in the manner in which he wants them to conduct themselves on the field of play. So far the results of his efforts are underwhelming with no attacking penetration, no tactics that appear to work and a stunning inability to motivate this squad to take the game to the opposition and compete. There is a steadfast resolve to not bother scoring and a dull acceptance to losing. Difficult to keep engaged with a club if there is no apparent character or resolve in the team and no visible improvement over the Farke era.

Forget the milk cup final, the play off final ,Fulham last game of the season 2004, the 3 FA cup semi finals. This has to be the biggest ever game in the history of our club !

He should have been fired when we were relegated.
I get fed up with all of the excuses people make for him, his head is clearly not with Norwich City. Hes probably not mentally got over being fired from Villa.

Wigan is a huge game and i hope the crowd turn if we do anything apart from win.
Only excuse for a loss is poor / bias refereeing or some other blunder.

As the title suggests it's a big game for Dean Smith.
