Indy 3,314 Posted June 21, 2019 I was a tad confused to why we weren’t linked until Celtic pulled the plug, was it then a very good agent touting him which pushed Celtic to pay up. He might be a very good player, but let’s not forget we have a few decent no. 10 already, Cantwell is only 20 too, so lots to come from him.

BigManInTheBarclay 75 Posted June 21, 2019 (edited) now that he's gonna be signing for Celtic...can we stop posting stories about him? Far more interested in our current squad and who we are still after than a lot of the players who have left (does ANYONE really care that Bellamy is a coach overseas or that Jed Steer has signed a new contract at Villa?) and those who we will not be bringing in. Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man 3,845 Posted June 21, 2019 It's a shame that we've missed out on an (allegedly) exciting talent, but considering we were spending £3m on a player for a position we're pretty well covered in I'm not that disappointed. However, criticising the lad for lacking ambition or being motivated by money is harsh in the extreme. OK, the SPL is a dreadful league nowadays, but Celtic are still a big club and by far the strongest side in the country, so you can understand the attraction for any young Scottish player. He can win trophies, stay where he's settled, develop as a footballer, play in front of 50,000 every other week and then maybe move to a bigger club in two or three years, similar to van Dijk, Wanyama, Dembele etc. Like I said, it's a shame he chose Celtic over us, but I don't blame the kid at all for doing it.
Woodman 92 Posted June 21, 2019 I see 'the Moose' has waded into the debate, suggesting we were snubbed and need to 'beef up' our squad with 'quality wide players'. So wide of the mark and clearly written to prompt a reaction, which he's got on Twitter.

We have a worrying lack of depth for wide AMs.
Icecream Snow 762 Posted June 21, 2019 We've got Hernandez, Buendia, Roberts and Cantwell, but Farke's systems always involve the wide players cutting in and the full backs providing the width.

And as we saw at the tail end of last season, we struggled without Emi and would've done similar if Onel had been out. Those options are worringly thin for a Prem campaign, the addition of an entirely unproven (and coming off the back of a massively underwhelming season) Roberts doesn't fix it

Parma Ham's gone mouldy 2,228 Posted June 21, 2019 Worth bearing in mind that Webber’s role includes liaising closely with clubs and agents. Building relationships within football is a key part of that and - as powerful agents often have multiple clients or certain clubs play, develop or coach a similar or complimentary way - it is not beyond the realms of possibility that our participation in the Turnbull theatre was part of such a process (ensuring maximum value and conditions for the player/agent/Motherwell). Takers must also sometimes be givers. Parma
Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man 3,845 Posted June 22, 2019 Wide areas are arguably the last ones that need covering right now. I'm not fully convinced that Cantwell is ready for a Premier League season and I still think that he should be loaned out to a Championship side for regular game time (assuming he signs the new contract) but we're pretty well stocked there and if we replace Cantwell with a more experienced wide player then we're hunky dory. First Wazzock 904 Posted June 22, 2019 David Turnbull has chosen to join Celtic rather than Norwich City for "footballing reasons, not financial", says manager Neil Lennon. Reading between the lines what he is really saying is... He can walk into our tinpot team for every game, whereas he'd have to roll his sleeves up and prove his worth to make the first eleven at Norwich...

Parma Ham's gone mouldy 2,228 Posted June 22, 2019 If you are the agent and you know that your client only has his eyes set on a particular Club, you actually have a difficult job framing what the player is worth - particularly when increasing wages dramatically from £600 per week to say £15,000 per week - equally the selling club wish to achieve maximum value, though a buying club in a monopoly position can easily stonewall. A Dutch auction. Enter a credible third party, playing all the cards correctly, dragging both the sales price higher and increasing the weekly wage. Such a third part would have done quite a favour to both Selling Club and Agent, potentially raising fee and wages considerably, the returns on which are the lifeblood of Agents. Motherwell fans will be apoplectic! No great loss at all. The guy chooses to continue to play in a non competitive league instead of fighting for a place in a prem league team, he isn’t for us or the Farke policy. lake district canary 4,542 Posted June 23, 2019 Interesting spin on it from Parma. Just shows things aren't always what they seem. Webber is obviously a good operator in the world of transfers and agents, so there would be no surprise in the idea he is developing his network by doing favours here and there.

AJ 1,224 Posted June 25, 2019 Interesting, but whatever the issue is could depend on the club's medical staff and what risks they are willing to take. Wasn't it Demba Ba who technically failed medicals at several clubs but played at a top level with very few issues
