Says he joined Sheff United as they have ambition to get back to the EPL, so is he trying to say City lack ambition to get back up?

He’ll be lucky if he’s their first choice. And should they get back they will almost certainly get a better player in, so it means very little.

What did you expect him to say?

"Well, my contract didn't get renewed at Norwich. So I'm just glad I've got another job. I wasn't first choice at Norwich, which will probably be the case here too. Because I'm not that good, really. Though if we do get promoted, I'll still get a pay rise. So, you know, kerching!"

Players are all given talking points to drop in their club interviews, pretty sure. Same reason why every single player we bring in has pretty much exactly the same things to say.

I imagine 'it's closer to home for me and I like the wage' wouldn't sound quite as good.

Funny thing is many players who leave city do not make it Big time and disappear into obscurity very quickly

Exactly, Maddison, Sutton and Bruce are prime examples.

Did he really say that in a whole sentence?

If he did there will have been 4 crosses into the box in the time it took him

Half the time the players don't even say what they are attributed to have said.

Read any report of a transfer having been completed and the same old 'quotes'keep coming out.

'As soon as I talked to the gaffer, I knew I wanted to come here'.

'He outlined his plans for the club to me'

'It's a no-brainer'.

'I've already met some of the lads and they all seem a really nice bunch'

'I'm buzzing and can't wait to get started' (this is a particularly popular one).

'The hard work starts now'.

Cliched old guff cnurned out as player speak. Sam has ticked all the right boxes.

What do you expect ‘ Norwich have a better chance of promotion, but they didn’t want me so I’ve come here instead’

He got the contract he wanted at the wages he wanted.

Meanwhile we're going to have to borrow someone to replace him and our supposed no.1 target has flown out to the US rather than train with us. Rum old situation.

Common sense isn't it?

The team with parachute payments always has a much greater chance of promotion, if you fail to go back up by the time you run out then you are on the same playing field as other teams who have been stuck in the division for years, like Blackburn, or Stoke.

In the absence of a serious investor buying their way out of the division (like Forest) you are relying on the stars aligning and serious overachievement.

You essentially get what you pay for in life, and Sheffield United have a degree of financial stability for the next couple of years that we frankly don't.

It's just simple common sense. We go into the new season with a typical Championship budget, and so can't expect to be a top Championship side.

We blew it, essentially.

Bruce? He played for the biggest team in the country and won trophies galore!

Haha ignore me. It won't let me delete it. I see now you were joking. It's been a long day

No ,he is just saying what every footballer or manager for that matter says when the go to a new club. Its the sort of tosh that reporters put in sports reporting every week.
They are massive club, the manager sold me his vision that I like, the players made me welcome, the support is huge, its a terrific stadium and I cant wait to get started. Take your pick.
A perfect example of the tosh that is spoken by managers is the statement attributed to Wagner with regards to the signing of SVH and his qualities

He wanted to leave us last summer to join Coventry or Swansea but was convinced by Wagner to stay.

If you think that we rejected him rather than vice versa then I strongly suspect you are wrong.

So are you saying parachute payments = likely promotion? 🤔

Do I need to go any further?

I think it's a bit of both. He was onterviewed on radio narfolk towards the end of last season. It was a weird response. He said something like a contract was on the table and it was up to him to earn it and to stay here. Could have been BS, could also have been him wanting more money and the club saying 'you've got the spot right now, go show us you are worth a higher wage'.

It's propaganda , let's move on. He will be playing for Rotherham on loan by January , having a cuppa tea with Higull bitching about Wagner.

If you gave me £15k per week for one week... I'd probably say anything nice about you too!

Yes, three times more likely to be promoted.

That enough?

No, but the original question (which I admit I strayed from) was about ambition, not probability.

But I don’t care enough in this case to subject other posters to a dull back and forth about it…
