Norwich v Kings Lynn ***OFFICIAL MATCH THREAD***

Recommended Posts

Quick summary for me - Impressed with Sorensen when he played in the middle, Omobamadele was comfortable all game and looked very composed (as did Tomkinson when he came on), Adshead was bright, Todd industrious, Mumba impressed too  good applause when he came off. And finally, I do have the sense that Adam Idah is really up for it and he will have a hell of a decent season.

Son / nephew - all sounds very NFN to me!

He is the son of Andy Kiwomya who is Chris's brother.

Andy played a few games for several lower league clubs.

Good to hear Adshead played well, has the skills but lacked the physicality when last I watched him.

Ricardo was right - he’s his nephew 👍. Didn’t Chris Kiwomya have his son on the books down ‘there’ at one point, or am I getting mixed up with Jason Dozzell?

Guessing everyone else will have seen the match on YouTube. It was just awesome to be back at the footy again!

Omobamidele the standout performer for me, looks so classy. Todd was a cut above when he came on, Idah looked hungry, and Mumba, Lungi and Dowell all played well. With Gilmour you could see the class, but a lot of things didn't quite come off. Rashica and Placheta both looked a little raw to me, Rashica trying a bit too much and Placheta maybe not trying enough.

Interesting that we stuck with 3-4-2-1 for most of the match, then it was more like 3-5-2 towards the end with Hugill and Idah up front. Lungi and Omo both look confident as part of a back three.

Had an obviously tentative pre-season feel about it, though, and you can't read much into it. No injuries, on to the next one.

How can you ignore that Hugill bossed the game for a long peroid up top? I know a certain small but loud number on here who hates having to give him any credit and would rather see him sold for pennies to a Bolivan 3rd tier side

But he did fantastic, his work rates were top notch all over the pitch always in the right place proved a real wrecking ball and meance always managing to scare the defenders and grab the ball by force from time to time and of course got a very good asist to help out Dowell with one of his goals

.. Just a shame he was robbed of his goal by the useless ref

Alex Kiwomya? Turns out he's 25 he looks about 15, but yeah he played very well

Any relation to a certain other Kiwomya?

EDIT: Ignore that, I see it's already been answered 👍

Was at school with my daughter until Chelski took him down to their academy.  He's not fulfilled his early potential, another of those youngsters Chelski loaned out season after season, except each year Alex dropped down a league until he was released and ended up at Chesterfield.  Still hope for him as his dad and uncle were late developer's.

Sorensen needs to play in the middle this season and not be shoved out wide to full back if we leave ourselves short of cover there.

I thought Gilmour showed some promise with his passing but Sorensen in his 30 minute CM stint looked by far and away our most solid defensive midfield option tonight.

Did I say he was? No I didnt. All I said was people should give him credit for having a good game, which he did.

ha ha ha

good to see satire isn't dead

otherwise, a bone idle waste of space totally out of his depth *

meanwhile Adshead looked confident and composed, Mumba looks an absolute steal for the fee quoted, Sorensen, competent as was Omobamidele, Gilmour had class and promises much in the coming season, and Rashica (Rush about ica) started as he means to go on, Tompkinson needs a better first touch, a good loan should up his game

Kings Lynn, certainly didn't look out classed and were often an equal match for their visitors, albeit a friendly. I expect most in the yellow and green will be wishing those in the yellow and blue all the best next season.

* Walking Football Norwich have turned down the offer to take Hugill on loan, their manager saying that he 'didn't think he would be able to keep up with the pace of our game"

Usual nonsense from a poster who doesn't believe football formations are a thing.

I'm not sure what game you were watching but there was nothing particularly inspiring about Hugill today. We're so far above King's Lynn in the football pecking order that you would be pretty worried if we weren't dominant in all areas of the pitch.

No one is going to be judged on their performance in the first pre-seaon friendly, but I'd hold fire on the superlatives for a fairly average performance. Only Cantwell really looked Premier League quality today.

Thought Hugill looked willing and industrious. Fair play to him for setting Dowell up - not to mention timing the run perfectly as Rupp surged out of defence looking for that pass.

Idah looks ahead of him on that showing.

Back home from the match.

All in all a fun game that didn’t fall into the normal lethargic preseason dross you can sometimes get served up. Fair play to the linnets for playing their part in making it a good contest. Gilmour was the standout to me, a good player is like a magnet to the ball and he just seemed involved in everything. Though it’s curious, I wouldn’t describe him as a creative like a Wes or an Emi, more a pace maker who would get the ball look up and quickly move it forwards or wide to keep our rate or play high.

Rashica looks fast and direct, he is a very different player to Buendia so you need to change your expectations if you think it’s a like for like. He seemed keen for balls over the top to run onto. Hopefully he settled and develops a good understanding with his team mates.

Anyone else get the impression Gilmour was like Leitner, but faster in moving it?

No clue how Rashica did not score when he had his one on one chance, although I would imagine given this was his first game for us and all, he's only really got here and hardly knows anyone and is still rather rusty from not playing for some time fair to say I understand and can forgive him 😉

Omobomadiele and Sorensen were my picks, think both will have parts to play this season and both look more than likely to be heavily involved in the first team. Mumba also looks very decent, not that we didn't know that if course. Nice to see Idah score, looked hungry when he came on and clearly wants to prove he's worth a space in the squad. Gilmour shew glimpses of passing ability but felt like we missed Skipp, such a shame he won't be back in city colours

Same frustrations with Placheta, needs to start showing improvement as we haven't really seen any yet. Plenty of pace and promise but no end product and poor set pieces. Hard to tell on Rashica yet and felt he didn't really get into the game as much as he'd have liked. Cantwell looked excellent in the second half, a class above

Overall a good fitness exercise, a good first win and nice to see some fans back watching the boys!

Apart from Gilmore if we have to rely on any of them for premier league survival we are well and truly screwed

Cantwell showed his class too, but luckily it was basically a fitness workout for them all - same as how pre season works every year really.

I think as soon as you know a poster has it in for a particular player, it doesn’t really matter what they do in matches - the stance will never change no matter the performance, so not worth taking seriously from that point.

Placheta at left wing back was an interesting one...one of the few who would have the pace and energy to get up and down the whole of the pitch both backwards and forwards.

If 3 at the back is being looked at and Giannoulis is out for a couple of weeks , he might get a few more opportunities to play.

Have to say , particularly if 532 is bring considered , that sending McCallum out again is a stange option with so little cover at left back.

Having spent a season out on loan at Coventry in the championship , what more can be learned by sending him out on loan in that league again?

I thought he'd be given a chance to have shown what he could do around the club this season.

He's young...but so was Jamal Lewis when he was playing in the Premier League.

Is he good enough or not?

It feels as though with injuries and available personnel (surely that’s it now with Byram) we are again (currently) leaving ourselves short at the back heading into a premier league season. It’s not good enough for a premier league club to only have one specialist left back option sbd we remain a CB short.

Rupp, Hugill, Gilmour, Mumba, Cantwell, Dowell impressed. Defense didn't have much to do, so can't judge. Rashica looked a bit rough, but warmed up during game noticeably. Gilmour took to it like duck to water.
