lake district canary 4,542 Posted July 26, 2016

Fulham now said to want Bamford. Wouldn''t it be best for us to have Bamford, on loan maybe, risk decreased and money saved. Sorted.
Bamford showed us nothing, is an even worse gamble than McCormack and imo that''s bad enough.
Bamford will score goals at this level no problem, you just have to look at his record. We need a striker who can guarantee goals and both Bamford and McCormack are two of the players most likely to do that. Their records prove it and neither would be a gamble. king canary 7,654 Posted July 26, 2016 McCormack has done it consistently for several seasons though. My only worry (apart from the age thing) is if he isn''t suited to playing up top on his own then we still only have Jerome for that role.

jeagle 0 Posted July 26, 2016 I''ve said it before and will probably say it again, Nakhi Wells will score goals in the Championship and there is no way we''d be paying anywhere near £15m for him!
BroadstairsR 2,199 Posted July 26, 2016 It''s a tough league season coming up. Many of our rivals in it are now well financed and are strengthening accordingly. We are amongst the very favourites. Let''s keep it that way.We cannot afford to procrastinate when it comes to strengthening our chances. All this talk of too ''expensive'' or ''too old ''doesn''t wash with me.You get what you pay for (as long as it''s not a Dutchman.)The absolute aim of the upcoming season is promotion back to the top table. Alex Neil has said as much. Our strike-force is weak and, as it stands at the moment, is not good enough to propel us back into the Promised Land. It is imperative that this area is strengthened by whatever means possible. The McCormack deal would seem to be as good as it gets. Besides it won''t likely be £15m up front but more quite a bit less but with add-ons. If these additions are related to a promotion then it''s all so much that different surely? The rewards for success deem even £15m as a pittance. We are still a bit of ''big un'' by dint of the fact that we have spent the last four from five seasons in the Premier League. Let''s not suddenly go ''small'' by shrinking when faced with a bit tough going.Whilst we can afford it let''s do it. Think of the statement of intent, the confidence, credence and boost to our ambitions that such a signing would evoke.Football today is big money, big risk and high profile the alternative is sinking amongst the also-rans. Let''s not go there whilst we have the ability and money to avoid such a fate.Think of the alternative that will be brought about by failure at this moment in time. Not taking a risk now is far more risky."Oh Delia won''t you buy us a Mercedes Benz. The binners have a tractor,We must make amends."(For "amends" read rub it in.) Essjayess 307 Posted July 26, 2016 We all have our own ideas as to who we think could be a good striker at City, most of us plump for strikers who are quite young, would only cost a few mill, etc etc. But we are just fans, if Alex is set on Ross McCormack, then it is what it is. Many are also saying he is not worth 12-15 mill, hence over valued. That may or may not be so, depending on what other players you compare him with, which in all honesty proves nothing. Point is that Fulham signed him for 11 million 2 yrs ago, and he has continued scoring regularly, and his value by itself, not comparing him to other players, is reasonable at 12-15 mill if you add the huge increase in signing fees in the last 2 yrs.McCormack, along with Dembele, did their job successfully at Fulham, which was to stop Fulham getting relegated (not to try get Fulham promoted, as one or two have mentioned in this topic). Boris 56 Posted July 26, 2016 Norwich will be quite offensive this season as AN will back to his early days 15 months ago y and play same system imo.MacCormack is not big gamble because we no doubt will cash in Brady if this transfer happen .Seems we are hungry to return this year for big money PL so must take the risk and keep most of expensive players for year. To think, 26 days into transfer window and we are ONLY now making a bid!! That suggests nothing has happened and its now in public domain.Gulp!

Essjayess 307 Posted July 26, 2016 If Sky are saying its a 10 mill for McCormack, seem like City are up to their usual standard of slow, continous bids, so of ten have Fulham said 15 mill, and 10 mill is a long way short of 15. So...Ross signing for us on 31st August then?

Samwam27 532 Posted July 26, 2016 If Fulham signed MC for £11m, and he''s had two great seasons with them plus recently signed a 4yr contract, I''m a little concerned NCFC have only opened with a £10m bid.Yes it''ll ago up, but the "Brady/derisory" opening bid seems to be haunting us again! CanaryOne 0 Posted July 26, 2016 Really thought this was much furthur down the line how Neil was talking , dont see us getting him for £10 million and surely Newcastle or Villa will outbid us . Worryingly short of time now to get a couple of strikers in before the start of the season , and dont envisage us doing too much with what we have on the books at the moment . Branston Pickle 3,679 Posted July 26, 2016 ....it probably is further down the road, why do people a) think it is all so simple and b) believe Sky, the channel that is wrong as often as it is right?
Ernie 0 Posted July 26, 2016 If the Sky reports are true then I am really F...... off. What the hell are we doing if we have only just tabled a bid, we have needed a proven goal scorer since we were clearly struggling for goals last year. AN has said his no 1 priority was to sign a striker, it beggars belief that if McCormack is our number 1 target that we have only just bid for him and to make matters worse, if correct, its 10 million. Now whatever you believe he''s worth clearly we are never going to sign him for 10 million. As someone else said it smacks of the Brady fiasco. Rant over. Jim Smith 2,339 Posted July 26, 2016 Putting a positive spin on it they often don''t bid unless/until they have a deal in place with the player via his agent so the real could be close. The pessimist on me though shares the concerns that (if as reported) this bid will not be seen as enough (given that it''s less than they bought him for) and IF it is our opening bid then it''s a bit pathetic that we''ve left it so late again.
