Old Shuck 300 Posted November 22, 2011 Bearing in mind Liverpool paid £35 Million for Carroll. Now Pilkington isn''t worth £35 Million. But neither is he 7 times "less" the player Carroll is.And, to use Ian Holloway''s argument with Charlie Adam last season, Pilks is worth an awful lot more than £5 Million to us if he sticks around and we stay in the Premier League. He won''t go anywhere in January-he might at the end of the season if we go down and some of our players get the chance to stay in the Premier League. But its lazy gossip at the moment, someone wants a story, has made it up and is hoping others go with it. Bryangunnshairline 0 Posted November 22, 2011 Here we go again. Roll on Feb 1st.
ZLF 342 Posted November 22, 2011 Carroll may not be a fair comparison, but Henderson and Downing probably are; young english wingers who went for £20m(?) £5m seems light right now, and this season he is worth more than that to us.Nearer £10m in the summer and it becomes a tough call... Yella Foreva 0 Posted November 22, 2011 Although i wouldnt accept £5M for him i wouldnt be dissapointed if he left. Hes scored some good goals so far but when they dry up (all wingers go through dry spells) i think we will see that his generall performances have been very average. I think alot of people have been blinded by that fact he has scored 4 times. The thing that frustrates me most about Pilks is he never tries to beat the fulback, he runs up to the defender, stops and passes inside.I''d love nothing more than Pilks to prove me wrong. Indy 3,499 Posted November 22, 2011 For my two pence worth, Pilks reminds me a lot of Beckham, not as good but has a superb cross, not one to take on the full back and can hit a superb free kick.Would he be good enough for Liverpool, well not in my book and not at 5 million either, I would consider 10 million a minimum realease clause, if he has one!Funny that we were talking about this ver subject on the train into Norwich Saturday, never thought Liverpool but Villa was the club we agreed might consider a bid!But for this to be posted shows just how good a squad of players we have! Jim Smith 2,653 Posted November 22, 2011 Leaving aside for the moment the fact this rumour is almost certainly not true....We are now a premier league club and for young, british players playing regularly for premier league clubs the bidding starts at £10 million. Anything less than that and they can take a running jump.

Syteanric 1 Posted November 22, 2011 if the big clubs think they can come in and help themselves they have another thing coming... if they want one of our players then they need to make it worth our while. We arent "little Norwich" who will take the money to keep our heads above water we are a premiership side moving in the right direction with the best manager outside the top 4 clubs in the country... an ambitious club with a long term plan.I would firmly expect Lambert to tell "king" Kenny to do one or try and get a player in return... and not some reserve who played in a carling cup game 5 years ago but a 1st teamer who will improve our side...Playing with the big boys now and we will give as good as we get... so Liverpool, if you want Pilks i think it should be Cash plus Kuyt or Carroll, or Johnson etc... Jack Barak 46 Posted November 22, 2011 Never say never - if the money was right we should defo deal.Pilks is a really good player and I have been very impressed with him but as much as I would like to think his life''s dream is to play for City I have a feeling that it isn''t, as such, I don''t think we could stand in his way if a club like Liverpool came in for him. However it would have to be for more than £5m, they spent £35m on Carroll and £20m on Downing so I have no doubt they would go higher...if we got £6m or £7.5m I would say take it. NWC 332 Posted November 22, 2011 Like it or not, Pilks has been our best player this season without doubt.£5 million for a premier league team''s best player?? - I don''t think so!!
Lincs CR 0 Posted November 22, 2011 A) 5mil is not enough for our current player of the season.B) Lets face it, Liverpool have high hopes of competing in the champions league again, they will go for someone proven at the highest level.
lake district canary 0 Posted November 22, 2011 Players and managers get moved on too quickly these days. Anyone with any sense would say to Pilks and to other clubs interested is to say - watch this space! He is young, coming back to full fitness, finding his feet in the premiership. Let him develop/mature at this club for a couple of seasons then maybe he will be ready to move. Just to move players on just because they score one or two goals is potty but he has loads of potential. Let him show everybody what he can do over at least a season before considering offers. Same with Morison and other players. Let them do something worthwhile before letting them go. If they do well here they''ll be worth more in the long run anyway. SwindonCanary 457 Posted November 22, 2011 When the January transfer window opens, I''m sure Norwich will have to rebuff approaches from ''bigger'' clubs and Norwich, in-turn will be approaching clubs hoping to get a bargain.

smooth 114 Posted November 22, 2011 Pete, I totally love the window. In fact we def. need it, bolster the side and to give a lift. It is just the case that here in the UK we inflate our prices. In fact all teams I am sure will say it is very important.Don''t think Pilkington is top of their list, did I not see that Nathan Dyer is top of Liverpools list in the Mirror. Scott Sinclair and Dyer look amazing in this league, if they were to leave swansea then they would def. struggle. Same as us if players left. It would be foolish for a player to leave to early, hasn''t proved themselves and likely to be on the bench for a while. As none of them have shined brightly in comparison to the rest of the squad. Whereas Sinclair and Dyer do.So don''t expect any movement out of our starting players, in fact not many of our squad players either.
smooth 114 Posted November 22, 2011 But maybe if they want Pilky in the summer, we could discuss that we have Pacheco

......and Smith must score. 1,637 Posted November 22, 2011 I can''t believe this nonsense...Pilkington has just arrived from a League One club and is establishing himself in the Premier League. Unless it''s for absolutely stupid money why would we want to sell him/ he want to leave mid-season - even to go to Liverpool - when there''s plenty of time to sort all that out in the summer or later if necessary. If he turns out to be an exceptional player then both he and NCFC know he won''t stay at Norwich forever. He''s young, we''re not skint...... what''s the rush ?
Jersey Canary 180 Posted November 23, 2011 Do you honestly think that McNally will let Pilkington go for anything less than the absolute maximum price? He''s too shewd to let Pilks go on the cheap.
nutty nigel 7,963 Posted November 23, 2011 Last night I''m sure McNally said they budgeted on getting about £75,000 from player sales this year. So looks like they have no intention of selling. Either that or he''s really gonna let him go on the cheap[;)]
Reggie Strayshun 0 Posted November 23, 2011 Yet another case of the Fleet St scribblers trying to make a "story" on a quiet news Tues afternoon etc. All the "big" clubs track other clubs'' players. They have departments exclusively set aside for this sort of scouting. They are all looking at any player, anywhere, who they feel could, not only add to their squad, but also by signing them they could deprive their rivals of that player. It happens all the time. Pilkington would be mad to move to Anfield etc in Jan. Presumably he''s not exactly on the breadline here at Norwich (certainly compared to what he was getting from Huddersfield 6 mths ago), and he''d be a fringe player at best in Liverpool...probably hawked out on loan à la Pacheco. Here he could get valuable Prem first team experience , and, significantly, get himself fully match fit.
ricardo 8,109 Posted November 23, 2011 I can''t see the likes of Liverpool or any of the top six fishing in our pond. The gap in quality was on display for all to see last Saturday. We have some good honest young talent that may if nurtured properly turn out to be capable at the top clubs. The likes of Liverpool don''t need to take chances on buying developing players, they have the financial clout to buy the best.
