Old Shuck 291 Posted September 22 Alex Neil currently favourite to replace him. So Naismith's successor might be the manager who signed him for Norwich.

Maybe I just don't like Scottish players.

Indeed, in that January window we signed him and Klose, who were both big money, proven, experienced players at the peak of their careers. Earlier that season, Naismith had scored a Premier League hat trick against Chelsea and Klose had played in the Champions League. The problem was that Naismith saw the contract as his pension and realised that he'd be nearly 33 when it expired so it was going to be his last big one. He wasn't arsed about playing well, or even playing at all, as long as he got paid. Funnily enough, many of us on here (me included) have called for a couple of these type of signings ahead of each of our last two Premier League seasons, but we didn't sign anywhere near enough experience either time and finished miles away from safety. He probably thought he was the saviour, worst player to ever play football, next coming of Pele and technically most gifted person to have ever lived interchangeably within the first couple of appearances. Midlands Yellow 4,682 Posted September 22 Parallels with Gibson? Paid way over the odds for both with huge wages ( For Norwich) In hindsight we got done over on both.

Mr Tea 140 Posted September 23 This is both bad and good. If there is one person who I despise then it’s this bloke to the point I’d wear an ipsh*te shirt for a day over liking him. This is bad because I wanted him to suffer as much as possible . I guess he will also get a payout ( history repeating itself there then ) Good because he has less chance of getting any other job .

He’d have been on peanuts there compared to what he was on as a player here but his contract was to 2026 so it’ll still be a tidy few bob. There’s been some crazy contracts handed out at Carrow Rd over the years but his was the craziest. He even got a million smackers when we got promoted in 2019 and he’d barely been in Norfolk for well over a year. Not Alex Neil’s finest hour.
Danke bitte 1,155 Posted September 23 Anyone else think he’s probably been the worst signing in recent history? £ to minute for me anyway. After relegation in 2014 we shipped RVW off. When we got relegated with Naismith we continued to play the guy when it was obvious he couldn’t be bothered.

Yes, I remember the promotion bonus .thats one of the biggest things that sticks in my gut. would I have taken it ? YeS but he did f*** all when he was playing so put the two together and it gives me my most disliked player ever to pull on the shirt .

How can you dislike him for that if you would have done it yourself? There may be one or two people who wouldn't have taken the bonus, but, not many. It's not his fault for taking it, it's the fault of the idiot who gave him the contract that entitled him to take it.

That was another weird one. John Bond admitted he’d never seen him play for Hadjuk Split when he arrived for £300,000 in 1980. Didn’t speak a word of English and left after two years after making just 30 appearances and scoring no goals. Rumour had it that the fee was split three ways. That era was pretty notorious for brown envelopes.

One Flew Over... 33 Posted September 25 From Wikipedia: Quote Bond admitted that he had not seen Mužinić play and had signed him on reputation, leading then-Norwich player Justin Fashanu to say "I don't think we got Mužinić, I reckon they sent his milkman." NewNestCarrow 292 Posted September 25 Amazing how subjective fans can be about players' values. Naismith was a proven PL player who should have improved us. It sounds like he never really wanted to be here and I suspect our desperation led to a silly transfer fee and large contract. As we were just five points off safety at season-end the risk was prob worth it. He made 48 apps & scored 8 gls., and for the last 18 months of his contract we got a loan fee and part of his wages paid. Now, I'm not saying that was a great deal, but compare it to: Louis Thompson - seven years at NCFC, just 14 apps (and a shed-load of medical bills). Josip Drmic - 3-yr contract. 21 apps & 1 goal. Sent to 'coventry' by NCFC, paid in full for SEVEN MONTHS to stay away. Leitner - 4-yr contract. Sent to 'coventry' by NCFC, paid in full for TEN MONTHS to stay away before being paid to leave.
