Ipswich are a terrible club

Recommended Posts

Okay, congrats to them and their long suffering fans on finally getting something to cheer about, but I keep hearing from certain outlets how 'they're a great club' etc.  They very clearly are not. I'd say they're the epitome of a sh*thouse club and I say that without yellow and green glasses on in the slightest.  A list of their recent highlights:-

* Bought 'name' players on lucrative contracts they couldn't afford after one year in the PL

* Got relegated with those players and couldn't afford the bills

* Didn't pay charities and small businesses before going into administration

* Fired the manager that got them to the PL the very next year after relegation (a club legend no less)

* Waved £5 notes at opposing fans when bought out by what they thought was a sugar daddy

* Hired mercenary Hollywood managers in Keane and Jewell in an attempt to buy promotion

* Hired a pragmatic, dour Mick McCarthy, playing turgid football for years when Hollywood appointments didn't work

* Hired an ex-Norwich manager

* Virtually abandoned their youth team for years

* Couldn't fill half their ground for season after season as the club floundered

* Sold out to a US pension fund

* Refused to pay a dividend to shareholders they begged to save the club a few years earlier

* Promoted from the third tier finishing 2nd after out-spending the next highest spenders by a multiple of eight.

* Fans attacked the vehicle of a couple of 80 year olds on derby day

* They still won't stop talking about achievements from nearly 50 years ago. I can't think of another club in the league that talks about the past as much as they do.

They're literally everything you wouldn't want your football club to be. As the saying goes, form is temporary, class is permanent. And they have zero class. Absolutely zero.

Even their fans were labelled 'Zombies' by their best ever manager.

Their chief exec wasted no time mentioning us . I recall that bloke Simon Someone employed by Mucus making similar comments when we went down to Div 3

Wonder  what happened to him?

About " leaving the play offs to that lot down the road " ??

You'd think they'd realize they should probably have a bit more success before trying to dig the boot in. We've done the whole double promotions thing it's so 13 years ago.

We've also won those play offs that they'll leave to us. Something they've failed to do in 24 years.

We've also won this league 3 times since they were last relevant in regards to top flight football.

AND won the league that they failed to win all while outspending the rest of the league by a wide margin.

I guess class is permanent and form is temporary

Nothing classy about throwing cans at away directors and not apologising .

Whereas Norwich City ares so great.  They don't take their fans for granted, season tickets sheep guranteed to come back time and time again irrespective of the dross served up.  Look at yesterday as evidence.

It's classless, petty and smacks of jealousy. I've never particularly understood the need to stir up hatred with our nearest rivals. It's not as if there's a magical wall on the river Waveney which divides us good North folk from the evil South folk; they're the people we have the most in common with, like it or not.

Personally I enjoy it as more of a friendly rivalry without the nastiness. I prefer it when we're in the same league so that we actually play each other but, whatever you think of their past misdemeanors, they've gained promotion through playing decent, high-intensity football without relying on top quality players or paying outrageous wages.

Ultimately this kind of success should be celebrated because they've done it without the privilege of recent Premier League money or parachute payments. Regardless of what some of their fans might claim, they are a minor club by modern standards.

Hopefully we can have a few seasons of playing each other in the Premier League.

Does everyone remember Roy Keane insinuating that the scum would have played a bit better if their fans were a bit more like ours?

That was a good one.

This is the first Ipswich thread I can fully get behind. Hope the club folds.

I’d be more concerned by Daz Ultra than the Ip**** ‘Ultras’.

Many of their ‘fans’ couldn’t name their squad players. More plastic than a hungry whale.

Well that clearly ain't going to happen is it so why write such rubbish. Your posts are normally of quite a high intellectual standard even though I may often disagree with the content.  However that goes down the toilet the moment you start talking about 'them'.

Of course it does, because I dislike them and my point wasn't about how likely it is that they fold, just that I'd like it to happen!

Funny how for five years they were hardly even hitting 18,000 fans at home and their stadium was looking half empty and yet just one decent season and they've now got extras from the walking dead filling up the place groaning and stumbling about in blue being all "Oh how i've always been here for my club.."

Hope our messageboard is not taken over next season by posts about them when they win or lose a game - some people appear to be completely infactuated by them - let them support them and us support us

I was going to mention this earlier as I have a vague memory of an ex-CEO having a dig at us, in a similar vein to "that club down the road", was it Simon Clegg or someone else?

That's something that that tells me everything about that club and I've noticed it before on many occasions - obviously their fans have a rivalry with us as you'd expect but to have those within the club making comments and sly digs at NCFC, which just goes to sum up what that club is - scum. They've clearly been very bitter and jealous of Norwich's success, just pretty cringe how much they make it show.

Yeah I saw a quote from one of their fans on the BBC about how they are a "proper family club" who never leave their club behind.

Well they clearly did up until this season 😂

I get that you’re a glass half-empty sort of person Pete, but this is really low even for you. “season tickets sheep guranteed to come back time and time again” are supporters who remain loyal and show up for their club no matter what. How on earth is that a negative?

Let's see how you compare IF you fail to go up this year.  Last parachute payments coming in...

You talk about the fans drifting away.  Again let's see what happens at nodge if that financial issue happens and you drift into 5 years of nothingness. Still 25k attendances then?  Let's see.

All ifs of course. It may never happen. But it might so it would be interesting how much of your post becomes the norm for nodge.

Administration...  itv collapse was what done it. Not signing 2 players. Plus no golden £100 mill payout to reward you for relegation unlike yourselves each time.

No town fan however will deny the club was a sht show under Evans. It sucked. You mention academy.  It was so bad we didn't even have an open reception at the club.   There are many bad owners in football, we've had one. You've been lucky. She'll die at some point. Let's see what you get then and how they takes you.. it's an unknown at present.

So yeah let's see what the next few years bring

BTW.  15 years, we don't give a fk. We re ipswich town and we're going up.

So as you get promoted to the PL, you still sing about Norwich and how you haven't beaten us in 15 years? I think you do give one! We really do live rent free in your heads.
