I think the phrase be careful what you wish for comes to mind.

Let's Hope we get some sort of bounce or reaction from the players anyway else we are all going to look stupid.

Good luck to Smith elsewhere. For whatever reason it just didn't work here.

My sentiments too on the highlighted sentence....

There are a few basics Purple. most important go with a manager on an upward curve regardless of their current level. Neil , Lambert, Farke even backs as far as Saunders who was catching the eye as a player manager . Not a downward curve - Rioch , Roeder and now Smith. It’s worked for us more often than not.

PS I now want Webber to return to his formula and would like nothing more than never of heard of our new manager having worked miracles with Bayer Leverkusen under 23’s.

GPB, I agree about upward curves, but while Rioch and Smith had been sacked by Arsenal and Villa respectively, those were big top flight clubs. Both had good records with smaller.clubs. And sadly because of the post Brexit rules, that unheard of coach of yours is likely to be ineligible…

I hear some chap called Dudley Deschamps or something is looking at his options after some lad called mcpaddy ballsed it up against a goat.

Worth a punt on a Frenchman?

That and Rioch wasn't poor for us.

Yeah, Brexit could be / is a big stumbling block to unearthing managerial talent..

It's definitely the right decision, but honestly when I watched the post match interviews last night, I couldn't help but feel sorry for him. On a human level it must have been awful to have to hear all that abuse directed at you.

I'm sure he'll succeed elsewhere and I wish him nothing but the best, apart from when he faces Norwich ofc.

The problems are obviously deeper than just the manager, the squad feels stale and in desperate need of an overhaul, too many players have now been up and down multiple times and should probably move on.

Short term we need someone who can get them enjoying playing again and obviously winning, but it's a long term rebuild I fear.

Interestingly enough, he refused to leave BG mid-season when we were looking to replace Farke.

The Norwegian season ended before the world cup, so he could well be a viable option, assuming he'd be open to a move to the Championship

He did not want to go to Brighten.

And you belive he will come her now?

Do we have around 5-7mill to pay Bodø/Glimt?

Interesting, although I think the odds now will be driven by where people are betting, so more an indication of who punters think are likely than anything else.

Chris Wilder-big no please

What are peoples thoughts on Ralph Hassenhuttl. Has on his CV keeping Southampton up, and likes bringing younger players through. Would he be a good fit here?

Nadine Dorries, Chris Grayling and Matt Hancock as the dream trio. With Truss and Kwasi as joint finance chiefs. You heard it here first…😎

We won’t need new owners for cash, we could get some PPE contracts signed and make 100’s of millions.

There’s some decent enough names there mixed in with true randoms. Hassenhutl would probably be my choice.

I'm really not sure on him as a fit for us. His Southampton side were the well-known high-pressing monsters and I'm just not sure we have the personnel for it.

That does depend, I suppose, where your opinion drops RE was Smith bad at coaching us to press OR were the players simply not suited to it.

I also hope so but I don't agree that he's similar to Smith in style. Dyche had a style at Burnley, Smith had nothing here.

My gut feeling is that we'll take a step back and move towards a more technical style of play.

Anthony Barry probably the most interesting name on the list. No managerial experience but high level coaching, ala McKenna and Ipswich.

Took some time, but I previously said on these threads that Smith would be gone after the WC if the situation did not improve. Even with some time to work with the players, the return was exceptionally poor.

Rebound was never meant to work as a sustainable relationship lol. Farewell Deano.
