How About We All Say Bloody Well Done To The Board

Recommended Posts

For proving us wrong and appointing Roeder when we wanted Jewell. For recognising achievements at West Ham and Newcastle were far greater than those at Wigan and Bradford. For recognising a manager with a ''Big Club Mentality'' instead of settling for ''Little Norwich Mentality''.

Or how about we give them no credit at at all. We can pretend they got lucky. He was second choice anyway. They didn''t sell the club to Roeder he talked to some fans who marked his bench about us. I like this option much better, Ive still got something to moan about now. [:''(]

Yes - credit to the board, after the Grant experience, they did due diligence on the candidates, asked around, and everyone they spoke to said "this bloke is a winner".  The people they spoke to have been proven right so far.  Look at the strings he has pulled and compare then to the closing shop doors that Grant endured.

To be honest I think Jewell would have done a decent job here too, albeit not as dramatically good as Roeder has.  Anyone who came into the club would have attempted to get the players fit and organised, and with the talent we have at our disposal I think we would have got out of trouble sooner or later.  I bet Paul Jewell is kicking himself now, instant relegation, his bosses aren''t the people who took him on, and we''ve seen with Sheff Utd this season that money doesn''t neccesarily get you back out of this league.  In fact, I''d back us and Roeder to beat Jewells'' Derby to promotion next season.

Yes, a very big well done to the board for making such a pig''s ear of things that survival in the championship now feels like a promotion!!!!!

Roeder  was indeed a much better appointment than Jewell - he had much more to prove and is much more likely to be at Carrow Road for a longer period. I think it is fair enough to congratulate the board on the right choice. The thing that interests me is...Roeder said at his first press conference that he applied for the job on the day after Peter Grant left. I wonder if the three-week delay was caused by the board''s attempts to get Jewell, knowing that the appointment of Roeder would not impress the fans. Then when Jewell eventually turned it down, they turned to Glenn. This is pure speculation, but, given the dramatic improvement since his arrival, where might we have been if Roeder had been appointed in the week after Grant''s departure? Up there with Palace?

Yep, got no problem agreeing with that Nutty, but i`m not going to disapoint you by not adding a caveat........It`s the first big decision they`ve got right in a long time therefore Roeder is having to rebuild from a very low base.

And you`re right about Roeders` "big-club mentality". If he can pull the others at the club up to his level of thinking then this club has a chance of going places. If not, he`ll leave.

I''m assuming this is tongue in cheek?

Appointing Roeder was a good choice, yes.  And this time they got it right.  That''s one in the "credit" column.

Deduct Peter Grant, keeping Worthington, refusing to make money available for players, somehow continuing to run the club at a loss despite recieving millions of pounds in transfer fees, "downsizing" the talent in the squad so where we once had Ashton, we now have Cureton...

Nah, they''re still crap.

Only Mr Chops realised that this post was a bit tongue in cheek. There''s no way I ever wanted Paul Jewell for a start.

But I do feel the Board don''t have too bad a record when it comes to appointing managers. Roeder does appear to be a good choice. I defy anybody to tell me Worthington wasn''t a good choice. So that''s two in the credit column. Grant and Hamilton were obviously bad choices, so that''s a score draw now 2-2. Rioch is unproven really. I felt he was a good choice but not in the way he was appointed along side Hamilton but which ever way you call it the Board have a 40/50% success rate appointing managers.

40/50% is good because appointing a football manager is not an exact science. What''s Mandarics credit column like? Sometimes a manager just doesnt fit with the club however good they are. Older posters will remember the difficulty Man. Utd had replacing Sir Matt, how many did they end up with in the debit column? Or Leeds after Revie? How many goes did ''Deadly Doug'' have at Villa? And it''s not just the amateurish non-football celebrity chef publisher poultry farmer board types that get it wrong. The best "brains" at the FA with all the advice from real football people like Trevor Brooking don''t have a better record when it comes to appointing England managers.

So yes I think the board deserve some credit for appointing Roeder if only because they will take the blame if it goes wrong. But I still believe they should have backed Worthington and had a real go at getting out of this league last season instead of hanging him out to dry and then not being prepared with an alternative.

And of course they probably should be considering alternatives now. Ade Boothroyd is the longest serving manager in the Championship, he''s been at Watford ever since waaaayyyy back in March 2005! So we could be doing this all over again before too long.

I will. It was the most boring football (I wont even include Hamilton - era erased) I can remember. Bond''s cloggers and Saunders muscle bound warriers at least turned in a fair days work in days of leaner wages. Worthington showed absolutely no flair - a typical defender becoming a manager. He got results to a degree, but I dont want a 300 mile round trip to see a result  - I can get that on the internet.  I want to pay to be entertained - a greaqt performance IS a result. GR shows signs that every now and then that entertainment is coming back...... and the results follow.

I''d like to congratulate the Board. Somehow they''ve got me to renew my season ticket AGAIN despite serving up 3+ year''s worth of cr@p.

How foolish I''ll feel in the summer when long after my money''s safely tucked away in the club coffers, I''m told that Glenn has limited resources because we over-stretched ourselves bringing in a whole host of premiership loan ''stars'' last year.....

And that it''s no problem having a squad of 15 because it gives more room / comfort on the subs bench.....

And that it''s unreasonable to expect us to compete with club''s of the stature of Hull, Burnley, Blackpool.....

And that Glenn will be keeping his ''powder dry'' until the Jan transfer window.

Well done Board - you''ve done a number on me yet again. Baaaaaaaaaa!

Worthy got us to a playoff and the premier enough said, we are winning now but the football aint exactly pretty. As for Bond''s cloggers dont know how you come to that conclusion, i went home and away under his reign and was quite happy with the football played.

Well done on a good appointment.  Roeders previous record said he would get us out of a hole  - possibly up to 7th place!  Now lets hope Roeder doesn''t follow previous form in his following seasons and send the club down the pan, as has happened at his previous clubs.  [:D]

Well, they did take their time (when everybody on here was ranting about time wasting and missing the boat etc) to pick a manager who I think has turned out to be an inspired choice.

And, no, I''m not a Delia worshipper, I just think that credit should be given where it is due.
