'Highlights'

Recommended Posts

The goal is best watched with a stiff drink. Not much to get excited about here. Though I did enjoy Sainz's final chance which started, I think, because the Swansea defender didn't see him hiding in the dark.

No thank you Robert.

Haha. You know when one of the highlights is a weak cross easily gathered by the goalkeeper that we didn't create much...

Great pass by McLean in the build up to the goal.

Then he turns to stacey as if it was his fault when the ball goes in ,

Leather it Kenny and all the problems go away ,

When a team is going through such team changes, you need someone to say ' take my hat and coat, you can trust me.' Sainz had that opportunity and failed miserably.

That is one thing Thorup can't control when a player is given a free chance to score and fails badly. He had a bad game and we're all talking about this and that when we should be talking about Sainz being a star. He needs to step up and show a bit more maturity. I rate the guy but yesterday....aaargh.

Lots of 'shy' play in the buildup to their goal. Nobody really steps up to take control of the situation, much like the first goal vs Blackburn; we have 3-4 clear moments to change the outcome.

This being said, Swansea didn't massively threaten and unfortunately Sainz has had a mare in front of goal. 1-1 or a sweaty win wouldn't have been unfair.

Sainz did have a really poor game yesterday and has struggled so far this season. I wonder if the pressure and expectation is getting to him. Last season I think he benefited from having Sara being another outlet and star within the team. He really needs one of the new players to step up and provide some additional sparkle in the team.

Sainz is my favourite player in the squad but he also seems an emotional guy and I suspect that he is perhaps ‘trying too hard’ due to the pressure rather than enjoying his football. I just hope Thorup manages him correctly so we can get the best out of his considerable talent.

How bad was the Sainz miss towards the end where Onel beat a couple of men and set him up to blaze over?  Radio Norfolk made it sound a really bad miss, but also mentioned 15 yards over the bar!  It didn't make the NCFC highlights.

The whole match is on Swansea's YouTube if anyone wants to suffer through watching it.

I don’t think he’s been at all good this season. He’s frustrated me for a while with his selfishness - has about 4 chances a game to slide someone in yet never plays the pass, tries to beat someone and loses the ball. It’s frustrating as he’s a decent player who can obviously score some great goals but I’d imagine his team mates find him frustrating to play with.

Couple of things I wanted to check out:

1.39.11 the Swansea player looks round, then deliberately throws his hand in Sainz's face. Nasty.

1.47.09 nice bit of bamboozling by Ante.

It's quite something how we lost every dual in the build up to the own goal.

By ether missing tackles, losing possession (twice), or simply not tracking runners.

I think the technical term is 'a complete sh!tshow'.

Upcoming opponents will study this plenty. I suspect they’ll see what I see.

Hmm.

I rather dislike the for-some-reason currently oft-repeated ‘Farke had poor results to start with, so this is almost certainly like that’ narrative.

Straw-clutching?

For much of last season, from much of the fan base the call was for younger players and to be able to see the club building towards something.  Saturday was pretty frustrating but with young players consistency is a challenge and also they need time to acclimatise to the physicality of the league.  The most frustrating for me was how many times we unnecessarily lost possession, or made the wrong decision.  Forson seemed particularly guilty of this.

Under Dean Smith we went to Swansea and won 1-0, think we lost last season... as frustrating as Saturday was, I still feel more optimistic about where we are going than I did in either of those fixtures.  Patience is not abundant today, but I am happy to show some, because it is a change I feel we needed as a club.  To go to Swansea, play poorly but still have more possession than them does show some direction, and so much better than cowering in defensive banks to avoid conceding all match at championship level.

A little cryptic this message, but my assumption here is you see we are a little blunt up front?

Given we have sold Sara, Rowe & Idah and replaced with prospects, lack of goals is hardly a suprise.  Possibly one more year for Sargent before firepower is even more diminished.  If the strategy is to always sell one of your best players to address your annual losses (and in fairness how much of this is a strategy vs how much is an inevitability that you will always lose your top talent).  Then our goal is to 'make weapons', and to do this we have to build a better factory.  I do see a better coach (we may not finish higher than Wagner's Norwich this season, but just look at Wagner's results when he lost key resources, I would worry about survival if he was in charge now).  The players we have signed to date, have shown potential but not consistently.  I do look at our current situation with hope, whereas last season just felt like we were limited and everyone knew it, and no one believed there was a prosperous future.  That in itself was part of the problem.

I'm also comforted by the fact that many other teams are in the same predicament.  In the longer term I hope for a European Soccer League, so that 'the rest' can reset and fight it out in a more competitive domestic league.

No weapons! Not just up front but in midfield as well I would assume.
