The three signings we have made so far all look as hard as nails.

The days of the 'dreaded Duncan Forbes and Wildman Hockey' seem to have returned.

I suspect, if nothing else, Norwich City will be a tough nut to crack in the coming season.

Get a tough  CD midfielder of the same ilk in then that's that side of the problem solved. No longer powder puff, so to speak.

Perhaps a bit more flair and another decent goal-getter in, and we should be in good shape.

I, for one, am a bit more optimistic about our prospects for next season now.

Give it some time. I like what we're doing, but frankly I said that in the 2nd Prem season.

Be interesting to see who they pair Duffy of with whether it will be Andy or Gibson at this stage. Late pre season games may give an indication.

Duffy and Gibson together would be a glacially slow pairing.  They'd have to sit on the edge of our own penalty area for 90 minutes to avoid getting constantly turned with any ball over the top.

I do still see Sara and Nunez as potential at the moment.

yes if they are to be sold with Andy O and Aarons we could do with some younger players with potential to come in

Yep, and if we look at the squads that got promoted this season:

Burnley had Lowton , Cork, Rodriguez, Barnes, Gudmundsson all in their squad who were all 32+

Sheffield United had Sharp, Basham, Foderingham, Norood, Stevens and Fleck who were all 31+

Luton had Lansbury, Shea, Bradley, Freeman and Berry who were all 30+

Next season we should hopefully have Barnes, Mclean, Duffy, Gibson and Onel around the first team which puts us roughly on par.

This is a fair point but if you look at each sides 11 players with the most minutes Burnley have 1 (Cork), Sheff U 2 (Foderingham & Norwood) and Luton have none. Out of those 3 one is also a GK, who tend to peak a bit older than outfield players anyway.

Our 30+ crop all look to be first team players to me, with the exception of one of the CBs.

I bloody hope not... His move to Fulham was made permanent earlier this year, only to be loaned out again now is dodgy to say the least. What Fulham fans saying about him?

He was signed permanently so they could bring in a loanee...

That would be a heck of a partnership in the air.

Defensively.

Duffy has impressive goal scoring stats for a defender but I'm not sure how good a defender he is now?

You would hope he'll be fine at Chump level though.

We needed some 'muscle'.  Too many like Gilmour Sara, Nunez were easily brushed aside. And too many times we were outjumped at corners, both ends. It's alright having a specialist dead ball coach, but it needs the right players.

Probably mate, just need max Aarons to Roma to happen now and we’ve completed the hattrick

I'll always say that a player's performances will be the ultimate litmus test of how good a move is, but this is another signing to give us steel and experience down the middle of the park. Duffy's more of a Hanley replacement considering his aerial prowess. We've got him in early so that he can have a full pre-season, and hopefully he'll give us more attacking threat on set pieces.

I like the thought going into these. Less time for these players to get used to the league needed, and a sturdy spine on which our youngsters can lean on and develop.

Time will tell but Duffy is actually the one I’m most excited about, think he can be a key player for us if he gets back on form.

I think in the past we have massively got the balance wrong between players being ready to hit the ground running and ones with future potential.

Credit where credit’s due so far signings are addressing that.

I'd imagine it was the 3 year deal that swayed him and the competition were probably unwilling to match that.

i think he's a decent signing but very much a archetypal Norwich defender in that he's excellent 95% of the time but has a howler in him and tries to play the ball with his feet perhaps a bit more than he should with his ability but on a free I can't complain. I've often looked at him and thought he'd fit like a glove here for better or worse, i just hope that after barely playing for a year that he hasn't regressed too much.

I wonder what their contracts are worth? Got to be in the £30K-£40K region I would imagine.

Sounds about right. When Burnley got relegated they said some money would be saved by relegation clauses, and Bournemouth and Fulham aren’t really the kind of teams that you would expect to offer their players massive wages

Fair point well made. Goes against the grain of some on here, but I'm not convinced with Duffy and Barnes, and this recent history backs this up. Sure add experience to the squad, but we need better starting players than these if we want to go up.

Won't go down well on here, but a good start

It's also a good message for future signings we make in this window, You'd expect a player to be better drawn into a squad with knowns vs unknowns.

Bristol City have signed two - Ross McRorie and Rob Dickie

Blackburn have signed one - Niall Ennis from Plymouth.

Coventry have signed Jay Dasilva

QPR one - Taylor Richards.

Sunderland one - Nectarios Triantis

That's literally everyone.

Thanks. That's good to see. Especially when on paper our signings would strengthen the majority of the teams in the league.

Could be a great signing, just a bit concerned that since his disasterous Celtic spell he hasn't played regularly. Have to hope we can get him fit and producing something like his Brighton form ( which was a while ago). Fingers crossed.

The main reason he was so poor at celtic was down to it being during peak covid. His father died, and due to covid rules we was not allowed to travel to Ireland to attend his funeral nor was he allowed to see his wife and kids who had to stay in Ireland during his time at celtic. He has spoken before about this and the mental health issues and depression he was suffering at the time, understandably so.

From the sound of it he's just the sort of character we could have done with last season.

Put a decent CDM in front of him, and we should, after some time, have a defence not prone to leakage, predictable failings and with a healthier goals against tally.

More Michael Jackson than Ben Godfrey from the sound of it but old 'Stonewall' did a solid job for us, despite winning more than his fair share of critics. Could get on the end of a cross too.

Must admit I think this could be a brilliant signing and exactly what we need.

Obviously the most important aspect is his football ability but I do think the character side is hugely important. That quite horrific experience he had at Celtic will have taught him a lot about life and what is important. That ability to withstand something far worse than going one nil down in a game (which in the scheme of life really shouldn’t bother any of us!) could be invaluable for us.

players like Omo, Gibbs, Gunn, Sargent, Idah and even Aarons could really benefit from having this type of character to support them.

I also hope he is a vocal leader on the pitch as we desperately miss that as well last season.

i Agree more steel now add a CDM / one more striker and someone with pace i would be happy

My main concern is the Manager now if sign all the above there is no excuses
