players just come back

players not yet back

a player who wants to leave

no left back

etc etc

Is it just me who thinks this ?

Well, Morecambe just signed 15 players at once. That pre-season is gonna be fun.

Normal preseason for 99% of clubs

Fairly normal for most years, too - don’t sides usually have end of season internationals, with a bunch of late returners.

Not many Man City players back from the Euros yet, they must be in complete disarray.

I see also the likes of Keith the Scot and that boot were saying if only we were as ambitious as Hull ! Have they got any players left ? Or have they sold them all ?

By the way which players are demanding a move ?

Going by this thread, looks like it is, if you look at other threads, Keith the Scot, The boots and Lakey seem to agree with you. Suspect Buhoo will be joining you soon with his first manager must go thread.

Yes and no.

As some have said, these things aren't exactly abnormal and most preseasons will contain all elements of the opening post to some degree.

However, I do think that this preseason is more disjointed than usual, because we did have six players away at tournaments which is a high number for us, and we are still expecting that 'one big sale' but we don't know who or when, and we're likely to do our main incoming business once that sale is made.

So yeah, no need to panic but it's not an ideal preseason by any means.

Injuries and late returns due to international tournaments are part of football.

Most clubs would be ecstatic if they only needed to fill one position at this point in pre-season.

Similarly if they only had one player who fancied a move to another club

What Thorup and his team will be starting to learn:

- which of the current first team squad can play his style of football, and which cannot. Can Barnes play a high pressing game?

- which of the youths are.first team squad ready and which need more time to develop - would expect a few can be promoted to the first team squad but most will need more time/time out on loan first.

What he is yet to discover:

- which player(s) will be sold to balance the books

- which players he will be stuck with - not what he needs but no-one else wants them either

- how much money there will be left for reinvesting in new players, if any

Now the international tournaments are over, you would expect the transfer market to start moving in the EFL. Quite normal for this to happen once the PL clubs have started to make progress on their summer dealings and dominoes start to fall into place. This is often delayed in tournament summers, (unless you are a PL club trying to scam the sale of youth teamers for FFP profit!)

Just need some patience.

I cannot remember a time when we have had a player injured at the same time as someone wanting to leave. Nor players returning from international duty while a massive crisis had struck the club. Thankfully we were able to switch Guilherme Montóia, from his usual position of left backm to cover us not having, a left back. Put yesterdays computer outage into perspective, doesn't it ?

In transition, forced to cut our cloth, need to sell but a slow window means they don’t yet know who. I sense the plan is to play it by ear until firm offers are in. Is that a mess? Not if we have decent players lined up/ yes if the plan is to go with last years reserves & bench fillers because they were pants.

Pant wetting is never premature. It's always exactly the right time, otherwise they'd still be dry.

Should have been sponsored by Pampers, not Blakely.

None. As stated by the club. Debt payments are being met. It would be absurd, for the club to incur financial liabilities that were dependant upon player sales. However, if Rowe does not sign a new contract before Sept 1st, the club will sell.

Sorry, can't agree with this.

If you were in the woods, covered in marmalade, and suddenly came across a hungry bear, that would be a firmly appropriate, non-premature time to wet your pants.

By contrast, if you were watching your team play a pre-season friendly and they gave the ball away a little cheaply, and you wet your pants, that is surely premature pant-wetting. After all, what are you going to do now when the bears come?

Local press have repeatedly talked about player sales being needed this summer to balance the books.

From Friday, "Financially, City do need to record at least one major sale this summer and are expected to target the loan and free transfer market in the meantime."
https://www.pinkun.com/sport/norwich-city/24459732.francisco-moura-target-norwich-city---reports/

Stands to reason given circa £35m reduction in revenue this season due to loss of parachute payments.

We've got ONE injured player in the whole squad in Barnes and as yet have still have the players we would want to keep.

I'd say we're in as decent a shape as we could be at this stage

Debt payments may be being met, but don't we need to sell to cover the loss in parachute payments?

Edit. Whoops sorry, just seen that this has already been mentioned.

I think it’s going quite well personally. Ok having to integrate Montoya and bring back Sarg so late in the programme is not ideal but other than that, the squad looks to have good depth to it with the youth players coming through and they all seem to be adapting quite well to Thorups style of play.

yes I’d expect maybe a couple to leave and a couple in (including that Doyle) but that’s not excessive change over the next couple of weeks.
