Tonight's match Wednesday v Saints

Recommended Posts

First of all, happy new year everyone.

Tonight's game should be fascinating. Just how good are the relegated and promoted teams? Can Russell Martin turn round Southampton's fortunes?

I haven't got the faintest idea but I suspect that Southampton will have a comfortable victory

Everyone seems to think Southampton will have a good season, but they were pretty poor last year - they didn't get that many points more than we did in the previous season. As we know, teams can continue to disappoint at this level - Norwich and Watford being perfect examples last season. Plus Martin is unproven as a manager.

Wednesday are a wreck, Russ couldn’t have a better away game if he tried.

Yeah, Southampton should win easily.

But it is the championship!

That doesn't seem to mean much these days, particularly at this level. The proven ones seem to do worse than the unproven ones a lot of the time.

Very true. And our own Dean Smith as the perfect example.

Ward Prowse playing despite being linked with a move away, its good enough for him....Lavia on the bench

I'm sorry but if we're paying their wages and 'theyre still our players' as Wagner is at pains to say,  Rashica and Aarons can surely get their f**king boots on and at least sit on a 9 man subs bench tomorrow

Reckon he's in a sulk as non of the players have signed his shirt.

4 relatively solid and successful years in League 1 and the Championship is more success than a lot of so-called 'proven' managers currently have under their belt.

I think that's mostly irrelevant now.

And Rusell could very quickly outgrow the desire to come and manage us. As with Farke and city (right place, right time), if Martin and Southampton click, he'll be a PL manager and then attracting much better offers.

I realise this is very much an 'if' and 'maybe', but some solid seasons with some ok sides but nothing like the squad he now has to work with. The chance to shine is now.
