Certainly the stereotypical 4-4-2 of 70s and 80s British football didn't really get the best out of him.

He made quite an impression on me, I remember pretending I was him when I played football in the garden, this was before he turned 20 and well before he moved to Forest. Looking at his Wikipedia page it seems he suffered with injuries quite a lot-and Clough also played him on the right wing a lot instead of as a central striker. yellowrider120 811 Posted July 24, 2023 Wow, this is certainly a day for awful news what with the icon Alagiah losing his brave battle with cancer. Had TF not suffered pretty badly from recurring injuries he would have closed in on 100 caps for England and got a whole load more than the 12 goals he scored for England. He was a 1970's teenage sensation for sure. He scored FOUR on his debut and 15 in his first 16 league games for Birmingham apparently. One of his most famous goals was this one v QPR and helped propel him ultimately to that magical £1M transfer to Forest.

Sheva 130 Posted July 24, 2023 Trevor Francis was a top player in the 70’s. Played on a complete mud heap of a pitch at Birmingham, in a tough tough period. Scored lots of goals as a teenager and I seem to recall him getting a hatrick at 16. Well spoken and polite, West Country boy, went on to play in the European Final for Cloughies Forrest, scoring a winning goal. Good guy, RIP.

TIL 1010 4,832 Posted July 24, 2023 A tremendous talent and just watching some youtube videos what a frightening forward line Birmingham had with Trevor, Bob Latchford and Bob Hatton. Who can remember his first encounter with Brain Clough when he received an award with his hand in his pocket ? https://www.itv.com/news/central/2023-07-24/get-your-hands-out-your-pockets-brian-clough-tells-off-trevor-francis RIP Trevor.

The Raptor 1,280 Posted July 24, 2023 I'm too young to really remember him as a player. I mainly remember him being manager of Sheffield Wednesday in the early 90s. They had some great players back then. Waddle, Bart williams, Walker, Bright. Palmer. Plus them losing 2 cup finals meant I got to see norwich play in Europe! RIP Trevor
