Interesting Read About Leicester

Its pretty clear. Obvious failure to replace kasper schmeichel, beating Southampton 9-0 then signing two of their defenders, over reliance on a hot and cold maddison and an aging vardy..

This section would worry me if I supported Leicester.

The main issue they face is a loan agreed with Australian bank Macquarie for advanced payments on player amortisation and broadcasting revenue.

That is set against TV money so it is quite feasible the club will not see any of the 'parachute payments' as they will be allocated towards paying the quarterly interest on the loan, which stood at £19m last year.

Leicester's total borrowings stand at £344m, but much of that is related to the owners, who wrote off £194m earlier this season,

"Leicester will be the most expensive squad, with the highest wage bill, to be relegated in Premier League history," sport finance expert Kieran Maguire told Radio Leicester's When You're Smiling podcast.

"There will be a lot of belt-tightening. Nobody wants the players to go but there will be a retrenchment.

"Some players will be on very lucrative contracts without relegation clauses which means they will become a significant burden.

and bearing in mind that they had already written off £194M

Covid had hit the club's owners hard, with their King Power Duty Free business brought to a standstill because of a halt to the airline industry. That meant the purse strings at their other ventures - including Leicester - had to be tightened.

Yes. Schmeichel was one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League and his replacement was hopeless. Vardy getting older was a problem but goalscoring wasn't really the issue for them.

Not only was Schmeichel a great goalkeeper, he was a player that the others looked up to in every way. For the sake of £5m on a goalkeeper they have lost an absolute fortune. Takes me back to 1995.....

If them relegated Foxes were to aspire to be a self-funding well run community club like ours....

They too could be 13th in the Championship come next May....

Maybe, as the Club who will succeed us as the highest wage bill in the Chump and having mortgaged their Parachute Receipts to an even greater extent, Leicester will finish lower than us?

He knows that Leicester now need to sell Maddison. He's literally their only high value asset. They've managed contracts soo poorly that now many of the squad can walk away for free and the rest don't even have relegation clauses.

I really think you need to check out his goalscoring record for England.

We might moan and groan about Webber but at least Norwich are not left with that level of debt. Paying £19 million just on interest every 3 months is astonishing

We couldn't have that level of debt.

The PL is built on debt. It will all come crashing down eventually.

He got 10 goals and 9 assists in a relegated team as a midfielder who didnt even play every game.. I suspect it's a coping mechanism for some Leicester fans who know they're losing their best player.

I would think that Harvey Barnes is also worth a considerable sum.

I would like to think so but this insane gravy train seems to keep gathering pace (until the 'crash' maybe?). Already there is talk of Arsenal spending £250M this summer 'just to keep up' whilst the Red Scousers will no doubt contemplate similar (albeit perhaps a tad less) in order to try and 'get back to their rightful (they would say 'entitled') place in the Champions League'.  As for the Geordies, the boy Howe is already hyping up 'summer marque signings'.

The level of debt some clubs have now is frightening- some ways we be better off were we are in the champs- we may soon see some clubs begin to fold

They say the big clubs are untouchable but it's happened in other major leagues so it's possible.

Things could have been better for Leicester if the circumstances surrounding the management of their finances was sorted.  Also it shows that unless you have `untold riches` and a regular/or  massive income, there is always a risk that it`ll go wrong. Striking that balance is difficult but at least we have a sound footing to hopefully build from. 🙂

On a completely different scale though. Around 20 times they’ve smashed our record purchase.

Only four teams in English football have been promoted to the top-flight, won the league & then been relegated within 10 seasons in that order:

â—Ž Liverpool (1896-1904)
â—Ž Ipswich Town (1960-64)
â—Ž Blackburn Rovers (1991-99)
â—‰ Leicester City (2014-2023)
