AJ 1,224 Posted September 1, 2022 I think we'd have been interested in him if United hadn't priced him out of a move. Not many will want to pay that asking price. A loan to buy deal sounds most likely but not sure United would entertain it

You heard it here first I'd be very surprised because it will be impossible after the window closes. And what do you mean by short-term? The earliest a loanee can return to parent club is when the window reopens in jan. Like today was last opportunity for the flyn Clarke loan to be cancelled as this window still open. A big one is also the fact that his wages are meant to be a bit mental. £5m with an addon of £5m if we go up seems a fair deal. Lets see. Would love to see Williams back. Problem is that we are only after someone short-term before Sam and Dimi are back. It’d probably be a goer if/when Max departs.
Newtopia 518 Posted September 1, 2022 I do think that view that we only want a short term deal is a bot hollow, if a player who the management really fancied as a player came available I suspect we would sign them knowing Byram or Max will leave at the end of the season. Byram leave? Doubt it, hes a sick note. No one above us would want him. Why do you think the Hammers let him go for pennies? He was costing them more in treatments. Capt. Pants 4,262 Posted September 1, 2022 Brighton are also interested in him according to some reports, so he's unlikely to come here.

My comment clearly suggested he might be brought in as a l/b, the problem being we’d then be overloaded with l/b’s. But as he’s a utility defender we may think about him when Max goes. I think that makes sense.

Yellow Wal 314 Posted September 2, 2022 This actually highlights two problems. 1. How the stockpiling of players ruins their careers by not allowing them reasonably priced moves. 2 How the stockpiling of players denies lesser clubs the opportunity of building teams for their future. What happens to players that are not named in the 25 man squads? Perhaps a few, almost meaningless, cup games and then a season of what?

I think that makes sense. He's not really both though- he's a left back who can play right back at a push. Fine for a few games but not a long term solution at right back, in a similar manner to Byram at left back right now. If we're selling Aarons I think the club would be looking for a proper, specialist right back rather than a player who has spent the vast majority of his career at left back and been pretty vocal about how much he prefers playing in that position. Michael Starr 519 Posted September 2, 2022 Honestly, this idea of coming in to cover for a few games is perfect for an up and coming youngster at one of the big clubs, especially one who is trying to get game time for the world cup with a smaller nation perhaps. In that case just use our own U-23 left back 🤷

king canary 7,624 Posted September 2, 2022 Can we just be clear that we cannot sign anyone on loan now the window has shut. That option was closed off about 10 years ago. 1
