New Font on the South Stand

Recommended Posts

Why is it that the club seems to always have plenty of money to spend on pointless vanity projects, every penny we can spare needs to be directed to the playing budget this season to maximise our chances of promotion?

We all know the stadium needs extending but I admire the modernising they’re doing. It’s been looking tired for a long time.

That's the way McNally ran the club, but not the way we're run now. We'll spend on infrastructure, we'll spend on tech, we'll spend on modernising the stadium when it looks tired.

It's far easier for a Sporting Director to hedge his bets and put all money towards transfers because ultimately he'll be judged on results but I respect us finally having someone looking at the entire clubs interests.

Also in this case, the cost of all this stadium decor / modernising is likely < 100k. Not really relevant in transfer money terms.

It's rather disappointing that there's been no required upgrade or improvements for the support in the City Stand....

It's so dated, tired and archaic....and as some would say, so are those that occupy it on match-days....

It's a business. That's what businesses do.

Bit of a misconception that McNally didn't invest in Colney, he made the necessary upgrades to achieve Category one status which we were awarded in 2012, including building the indoor pitch.

During the McNally and Bowkett era we also increased the stadium capacity from 25900 to over 27000?

How much do you think that this redecoration will actually be costing? We're probably spending less than 2 months of an average players salary on it, we won't miss out on any targets because of it.

Are you including the full cost of the crest redesign and rebrand, such as replacing every badge at the ground, at Colney, every bit of stationary and letterheads etc with the new crest? Or are you only considering a few stickers on a stand?

I was thinking more along the lines of the cost of the complete rebranding project, from conception to implementation, not a few stickers in isolation.

I actually think it’s good that they are making it all look smart. Players enjoy vanity projects and when potential signings come and see a well maintained ground and training complex they think it’s a good place to come and play. I’m glad they have got rid of that drab grey to be fair.

as mentioned before a new city stand to bring the capacity up over 30k is well over due

Re-branding is intended to increase appeal and therefore increase income, and is therefore self-funding 😊. Whether this will be the case or not can be argued, but businesses which stand still usually  eventually regress.

It's important for the club to have a good brand and appearance around the stadium.  You want to feel that pride as you walk in, you want players to notice the ground, attending a match is an event. I don't want to be walking into a rusty **** hole with faded signs every other week - you have to keep on top of these things before they go to the dogs.

Makes attracting players easier if your facilities are fresh, we've got stadium gigs happening in off-season, events all around the year in the hospitality areas.  There's more to Carrow Road than matchdays, and they all go into funding stadium renovations.

What, by filling the thousands of empty seats that we don't have?

No, but the work on making the crest more suitable to the digital market is likely an important factor for linked sponsors etc. T

What was wrong with the classic font?

It has been used  since I was a wee nipper.

Piecemeal stuff, but - for understandable reasons - they shied away from a major expansion project.

Only a relevant point if you overlook merchandise sales.

Some people just can't stop themselves..... let it go!    We're a brilliant football club, just had a terrible season that's all, get some perspective.

There is literally no club lower than us and a fair few above us in the pyramid that are run better!

You'll love this but the change in font is mainly for accessibility reasons - some people found that font illegible. I'm with you because it was very much Norwich's font, but progress dear boy ....

WCAG guidelines, there’s no way that font in yellow and green passes the AA standard. 😉 soz… I finally get to show off my job skillz

Also if you look around the ground there was an awful lot that had been bolted on and nothing was consistent, fonts, crests etc.  I moan at the club for a lot of things but tidying the place up and making everything match up will look good and as is said above just make the place look a bit more modern and professional.

I'm not particularly bothered about cosmetics on the cladding etc, but not sure I'm getting comments about it looking modern?? Looks about as 90s as can be, although I loved the 90s to be fair.

Either way it's not the biggest of deals is it?

Retro is 'Modern' right now, look around! 🙂

It'll be the perfect backdrop for our US centric "Fan engagement" zones.

What’s wrong with it?  Have a look - it’s bloody awful!!

I’m 100% not one of these ‘change things’ people, and usually find it pretty nauseating that companies spend ridiculous sums on changing for the sake of it, but that font has needed replacing for years.

Obviously we are different to the binners, their font is sacrosanct…

That said, I don’t like it if there’s a stylised small ‘i” in there….

It is very much in keeping with the Socialists Little Norwich agenda.

They have done so little for this football club. Have never come even close to any major domestic honours and have done no major work on the ground since 2004.

Does this new font mean the club has identified a potentially lucrative new sideline in football-themed baptisms?😎

It’s all very well, but when are we going to get a tree growing out of the top of a stand??  😡
