how far have we slumped???

Recommended Posts

soton had something to play for and it showed - simple then to explain the one sided end of season match today at acrra rd.But - soton were imo the worst prem team down here, and although better last year, they crumbled easily under the weight of dean ashton. this season, they are challenging for top 6, and looked like it.  we looked second rank all match.ok, so soton needed to win, and so we sat back and with hucks and earnie up front, may be we could have caught em on the break.  but playing like an away side at home on the final day??? burley has got a side togtether that is competitive and big.  how many of our squad would burley pick for his.  earnie and huck maybe ???imo they have progressed in the last 16months, we''ve stagnated.  lets hope for better next season, becuase at the moment i feel we''ve gone full circle.  i hope grant gets the funds he needs, and makes the choices we need to take us forward.  however, i''m disturbed that he thinks fozzy is good enough for city, becuase sadly, although i hoped for better, he''s not showing for me.  with teams around us with greater backing, i''m fearful of decline, but armed with our magnificient fan support - maybe we can rise again!OTBC

Says it all when Watford are linked with our best players, we are a mess and the sooner the fans realise it the better, great support is not enough, ask leeds.

It beggars belief that with Earnshaw up front we choose the long high ball , guess what we lose possession, little has been learnt at this club over time the coaching staff need replacing if that is all they can come up with. I still feel that we are a better team footballing wisse without Earnie.

what was most sad that our best player only played 30 mins, spillane was the only one getting stuck in.

Never mind the heat is off the board yet again. Next season will start and yet again it will take several weeks/months before the fans get p88888 off  and in the mean time the board and PLONKCASTER will feed the fans more bullshit.

I''ve had enough of people saying give Grant time to build his team that is b******* he is not up to the job. Look at Keane at Sunderland he has turned them around.

We might have to bite the bullet and get relegated in order to start afresh with a new board, manager and players. It is going to be painful and it is going to hurt but it will have to take place.

Like it or not Leeds are a bigger club than ours, i have no love for leeds, but my point is if it can happen to a team of their history and support, it can happen to us, while we have 25000 filling CR every week, why should the board act, there must be some pressure brought on them or we will be in the same boat next season or worse.

Remember that Roy Keane has spent a hell of lot more money at Sunderland than we have. Who has Grant been allowed to bring in? Brown, Chadwick and Lappin came for peanuts and I am afraid it shows.

I know it ain''t going to happen, but I reckon if you gave Grant the money Keane has spent (around 8million) then at the very least we would be challenging for the playoffs next season

To me this is the key aspect for the summer. Just how far are the board prepared to go to back their man. Give him 3 to 4 million and we have a chance. But if we are reduced to taking a punt on non-league players (Robbie Simpson etc) or Scotish journeymen (Fozzy) then I fail to see how anything is going to change unless we get very lucky.  Doncaster has got to put some money where his mouth is or him and his boardroom friends are going to face a long, difficult season.

Its not just money, its Keane''s standing in the game which also attracts players to sunderland, the sort of standing Grant does not share. Grant has obviously come here to make the best of a bad situation, where as Keane wants to be a winner, Grant talks a good game, thats it so far, we will see in the summer months what he is made of.

I disagree with the Soton have progressed point. We were poor yesterday but so were they. I think they had one shot in the 2nd half.

Very true Grumpy...

I think we should demonstrate as early as the end of September next season unless we are in the top 6 by then and everything is done to keep us there!!!

We all know that the vast majority of 23,000 plus fans will be more than willing to accept another season flirting with relegation though (as long as we can put a little run together that sees us safe come May).

Yep....spot on Grumpy.  No-one mentions the fact that not only does Keane have a "presence" that Grant can only dream about...but what money Sunderland have spent getting promotion will come back ten fold via Premiership payments. Meanwhile we face yet more prudence and certain relegation if we are not very careful.

Sad old Delia and her puppets are little more than kids in a grown ups'' world...Sadder still that she picked our club to play train sets with........

This is why Grant has appointed Gunny as Transfer Man as he has a better standing in the game than Grant.

Who let the sheep out!  Boring repetition of the same old stuff.  Doubtless the moaning from this bunch of doom merchants will grind on all summer since they seem to enjoy nothing more than to read their own posts and believe that talking amongst themselves constitutes a crowd.

Meanwhile I will look forward with optimism and expectation of progress at the club I love and will enjoy my trip to this weekend''s match safe in the knowledge that the Flock of Four will be probably too busy pulling the wool over their own eyes to actually attend the game.

My expectation is for play-off contention next season.  I believe we will do that.  Not slumped, just poised.

Gold the Brum chairman was being interviewed by Sky yesterday, he estimated that promotion to the Prem is worth £40 to £50 million to them, maybe exageratting a but even so I would have though that such rich rewards should be an incentive. Lets hope all this prudence stuff has been smoke and mirrors eh, and it turns out we do indeed have a pot to p1ss in!!

"Same old, same old" from the likes of you too, I believe we heard this before this current season. Yet being typical Norwich fans, oh yes we must give them another chance to get it right mustn''t we? Chance after chance after chance. It was the same with the KTF mob during the later Worthy days: "He''ll get it right. Just give him time" And where did that get us? My expectation, no, my demand is the playoffs at least. I don''t know about you, but I don''t call one week in the early stages of 2006-07 in the top 6 "play-off contention", though you probably would.

It actually astounds me how much ambition a lot of Norwich fans have for their own club. And yes, I mean none for those who were wondering.

Good reply Alex....and it will be excuses and more excuses from the sheep until they finally disappear up their own backsides.

There are plenty of seriously disgruntled fans today among what I would call the "hardcore" of support...not the flim flam Deliarites who simply claim to be.  In due course even these "hardcore" fan''s will have had enough and start showing dissent with their feet.....their loyalty being stretched to breaking point. When these valiant supporters themselves finally lose patience....heads will roll.

There will be protests next season. There will be cries for the inept board to go. DS will debunk as just another hate figure..... leaving behind a massive rebuild job for some poor soul to resolve....even perhaps an administrator. League One with a ten points deduction on the cards?  It''s far from impossible.

That''s what''s on the way folks......and shame on all of you who are still fiddling while Rome burns.

I don''t know about you but I expect it in 2007-08.  The rest is history - let it go.  Play-off contention means being in the play-offs or close enough to qualify by the last game of the season.

I am very ambitious for the Club.  I also believe in sustainable ambition.  Would I like to see the Club collapse in an attempt to spend our way back to the Premiership?  Definitely not.  Do I believe that we will spend enough to make promotion possible?  Yes.

Such views don''t go down well with the La La Land supporters who hark back to the supposed golden age of Chase.  Live in the real world where Leeds are going down and potentially into administration after trying to buy a dream.  I was proud to be a Norwich fan the day we got Chase out.

Being realistic and being ambitious are not mutually exclusive qualities. Discuss.

without an injection of cash, delia, grant et al are the best we can hope for.

All those moaning, and I have sympathy with your views, Where will the money come from? Unless you have ideas, your moaning is, I am afraid, pointless.

And if a potential investor is scouring clubs to invest and looking at fan boards etc, will he be impressed ?

Hmm.

Sorry for the reality check

We do not have to spend ourselves into bankruptcy to be challenging for promotion from the Championship.  That''s the limit of my ambition at the present time.  Is that ambitious and realistic enough for you?

In the past two dismal seasons we''ve had Â£24,000,000 (twenty-four million pounds) in parachute payments and profits, that most other clubs in this division can only dream of, and where are we now?  In terms of profits we are a BIG club.  Football-wise we are in crisis.  That''s quite an achievement.  Financial success and footballing failure ARE mutually exclusive qualities, except at Norwich City.  Discuss.

I too was part of the "Chase out" movement and a proud man when we finally got him out. However.....We now have someone in overall control at the club who stated at the time that no one would ever have that much power at the club again. Maybe she exempted herself from that statement? We have a chairman who was initially joined the club under Chase and who`s main business interest is PR-and people wonder at the carefully phrased "spin"that comes out of the club? And we have an inexperienced Chief Executive who in my opinion is more negative than Chase ever was and has about as much drive and ambition as my neighbours poodle.

I think the crowd who seem to prefer celebrating a nice, big profit at the end of each financial year (and subsequent large tax donation to the treasury) to success on the pitch are more likely to be the ones who supported the status quo when the Chase protests were going on.

"Being realistic and being ambitious are not mutually exclusive qualities"- Bearing in mind that the "Huckerby"push for promotion was paid for by the fans through the share issues (as,indirectly, was half Ashtons fee), and that any subsequent money spent on the team has amounted to a mere fraction of the money recieved/owed on players we have sold, can you give me a shred of evidence to show there is ambition in the boardroom at Carrow Rd.?
