shefcanary 2,950 Posted August 5 Brave! After the last few days, this will be a real test of his diplomatic skills. Or should be. 😉 #nobull****

cambridgeshire canary 7,797 Posted August 5 Fair play to him for setting it up. Got a lot of tough questions coming his way no doubt..
SwearyCanary 1,340 Posted August 5 Big Vince won’t go. He knows his BS would get rebuffed in a heartbeat and he would be shovelling humble pie into every orifice for weeks. Or like a Trump supporter he is so entrenched in his stance that no amount of logic or viable answers would convince him ultimately he is your typical cowardly keyboard warrior though - all type, hype and tripe
CUSDP 62 Posted August 6 @TIL 1010 you gonna grab the mic and ask a question? Or you out ransacking Greggs?

Google Bot 3,927 Posted August 6 (edited) It'll be fine, he's not written any cheques with his mouth as Webber would routinely do. He's been transparent, said it's going to take time and a methodical approach being taken to building a new style of play that we can identify with. With how bare the squad was last season the financial struggles were clear, and it's a whole lot tougher now. But that's not something he can publicly put out there when we're going into a window with assets which need to be sold to balance the books. Anyone fronting that question to him just need to consider that aspect. Edited August 6 by Google Bot

Anyone fronting that question to him just need to consider that aspect. I agree with this, I know there seems to still be a lot of discontent in this forum and in our supporter base but has Knapper really done that much wrong so far. If you think about it he: 1. Took his time when he arrived to understand the club and could see it wasn’t set up to promote the youth through the right pathways 2. Didn’t panic into a change of manager and tried to find the right fit and philosophy for the club. Stayed either quiet or publicly supportive of Wagner whilst he was here. 3. was decisive to make a change at the end of last season. 4. The out of contract players were on good money that we couldn’t afford, I am sure he would have liked to have kept one of the left backs. He had no say on Tzolis as already agreed under Webber. 5. in terms of transfers, he has bought in a left footed CB with pace (much needed), a young left back on smaller wages with potential and a good loan to provide competition/ start for those positions, they 100% needed to be addressed and he has done it - fair play. 6. he has inherited a fragile financial situation and it was clear one or two of the assets would have to be sold. It’s a shame it was Sara who was a lovely player but perhaps quite difficult to fit into for approach/formation JHT wants to play. If he can now bring in a couple of midfielders and a striker to replace Idah then I think that will be a fantastic first proper window. 7. In terms of promoting youth, It won’t be an overnight thing. They need experienced players around them but also does anyone really think Knapper wants people like Barnes / Duffy here? Nope but they have to find a way to get value from them whilst they are - not easy to ship out. clearly there is a lot to prove but I think some of the rhetoric on here is a little unfair, give the guy a chance he doesn’t have a magic wand
norfolkngood 1,174 Posted August 6 The only thing i am a little disappointed with Knapper is i thought he would know more younger targets , i maybe naively thought he might know some younger players that were not good enough for PL teams being let go at end of contracts that might have been good enough to come here , maybe he does and waiting for Funds or maybe they are getting snapped up ? , Knapper seeing most Academy players for the last few years thought he might of found a released Gem . Other that that he has done little wrong and his cloth is cut by what Webber has left and what the owners give him and what he can raise by trading
Google Bot 3,927 Posted August 6 Just now, norfolkngood said: The only thing i am a little disappointed with Knapper is i thought he would know more younger targets There could be 4-5 incomings as yet, who knows what is going to happen. Webber was always keen to operate at the start of the window, Knapper may be happier to take his time and make more educated moves based on what has occurred, not what may. One thing he's been keen to put out there is that he's not interested in players unless they are beyond what we already have. If that's the case then it's likely that youngsters has had targeted could be £1-3m range, and for that we have to free up resources - which appears to be the activity now everyone is back from Austria. We've already bought in two young players from prem league clubs, and they can hit the ground running versus players who have to adapt to a new country and the physical demands to our domestic game. norwich canary 171 Posted August 6 It is brave to be fair, it’s been a disaster of a pre season so facing the fans is the right thing to do. i never imagined we would replace Wagner with someone worse but somehow we have managed it

Certainly less than 3 seasons since Farke got wrongly sacked. Day one I expect they to be purring like a formula 1 engine
Capt. Pants 5,005 Posted August 6 It will be interesting to hear if he comes out with anything new, and if he has a dig at Webber by way of setting a context as to why we are where we are now.

There are several individuals at Carrow Road in recent years who could benefit from that lesson.

Feedthewolf 5,885 Posted August 8 You're not gonna get much out of me I'm afraid... the sound quality on the Zoom link is appalling! Nothing shocking that I could hear... diplomatic stuff about not being able to control the market, and that he'd rather we were getting lots of offers for our players than none at all, as it means people rate them. Said Sara was an unbelievable guy and an incredible professional, did everything by the book right up until the day he left, genuinely loved the club, the city and the county. He also said Rowe is a big part of the squad, they want to keep him but every player has his price... laughed off the quoted £7m figure, said there's no way we'd be selling him for anywhere near that low a price. 1

The sound issues were unfortunate, but unrelated to the microphone being used for the Zoom link. There were, however, intermittent problems with the microphones being used by Connor and Ben, and the roving microphone, being used by the guests to ask their questions. They were being swapped regularly.
Kathy 823 Posted August 9 Thanks to all of you who came along last night. We had some technical issues which were beyond our control, but apart from that it was a great success. Ben Knapper was a very pleasant and engaging guest and stayed behind much longer than the call of duty to talk to fans, and even brought along his very nice wife.
