Terminally Yellow 2,614 Posted May 20 Although in typical tabloid fashion, if you read the article they kind of step back on the notion he's a "top target" and suggest he's one on a list of people.

In fairness, wasn't it Charlie Wyatt who broke the news that Wagner was to be sacked?
Capt. Pants 4,882 Posted May 20 Good having all these names bandied about that way when somebody is eventually appointed we debate if they were first choice or not.

Matt Juler 205 Posted May 20 (edited) As much as the Sun is the Sun, their Norwich news is often not far from the truth because of Charlie Wyett. Edited May 20 by Matt Juler

Yeah I dont like the Sun or tabloids in general, but generally their sports journos arent anyway near as shocking as the news/entertainment ones.
Capt. Pants 4,882 Posted May 20 So Cooper isn't interested but could end up at Binland when McKenna leaves. The Sun seem to be making an awful lot up, who'd have thought.

Michael Starr 568 Posted May 20 (edited) He's got a bald head so he's bound to be a great head coach. To be fair though, a 58% win rate at an unfashionable club over 160+ games is actually pretty impressive. Edited May 20 by Michael Starr

The Real Buh 3,746 Posted May 20 (edited) Here’s the big question, that will win him the job. Is he a lovely young man? Is he a lovely, well spoken young man who if he does get a little bit upset will appreciate a little huggy hug time with Delia? This is the most important characteristic in A Norwich manager. They all seem to underachieve with the club they are given. Martin Jol, Ten Hag, Rene Meulensteen, Van Gaal (relative to quality of the squad he had), **** Advocaat. Koeman did well at Southampton but its honestly the only one I can think of to take to English football like a duck to water. Gullit did win an FA Cup with Chelsea, but fell out with half of his squad at Newcastle. But then I googled Pascal Jansen and it turns out he was born in London, has an English mother and a British passport, so maybe there is hope for him yet. I don’t think they’re minnows in the league, they’re just not at the level of Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord

Branston Pickle 4,116 Posted May 20 I’m intrigued how the positioning has got going before we’ve even appointed anyone. Whoever it is deserves to be given a fair chance, to an extent it doesn’t matter who it is.
Monty13 2,710 Posted May 20 Not sure exactly why but I’m really hoping for and expecting a young, up and coming coach. I’ll freely admit I know absolutely nothing about him other than a quick google search, but a 51 year old who was sacked back in January doesn’t feel that exciting. If it’s him I’ll be fully behind him obviously, just my opinion.

AJ 1,345 Posted May 20 An interesting name to throw in the hat and seems quite specific for it to be too far from the truth unlike the Arsenal assistant because of the lazy journalism links to Knapper. I'm sure given that it seems to have been very much a premeditated decision to off Wagner that whoever it is must be in the latter stages of the process so we can start kicking on with summer transfer plans

I see where you're coming from but he's not a journeyman manager - he's been head coach once, got his team to a European semi final and has an excellent track record of bringing through young players. He also has a record of keeping his team competitive despite constant sales of their best players. Just because he's 51 doesn't mean he's not up and coming. He was heavily linked with both Celtic and Rangers not long ago and the general sense was his sacking at Alkmaar was a bit harsh. 1
