A lot of real talent being lost this year.

Sad, but not unexpected news.

I will raise a glass to him when I am watching Skinny Lister at the Art Centre tonight.

Rest in Peace, Shane

Worst Christmas song of all time. It's cheap, lousy.. And ooh, can't say that word anymore 😉

Shame really as clearly a nice and talented guy.

Obviously subjective but my best and I would say many others favourite Xmas song

Balls will have to skip the AGM to write a new final chapter for the reissue of his biog now.

Shane did well to earn his bus pass. RIP

Sad but not surprising I suppose.

I remember seeing Kate Melua take the Kirsty MacColl roll in a rendition of Fairytale of New York. Shane was in his usual state and the poor girl looked terrified 😊

What, no thread for Henry Kissinger or Alistair Darling?

Not heard their albums to be honest....

The Pogues were good, but especially live.

Shane was inevitably three sheets to the wind when I saw him perform. I think he spent many years of his life drunk. Didn't the group eventually sack him for this?

Talent with waywardness ... not unusual, especially in the entertainment industry.

Kissinger was all Bomb the Bass.

While Darling was more Money for Nothing.

One of the finest songwriters of our generation. I urge everyone to have a listen to A Pair of Brown Eyes or A Rainy Night in Soho and raise a glass to his beautiful poetry in song.

RIP and God Bless Shane.

Can’t say much more than above…I can’t argue about the Christmas song it’s really cheesy yet I find myself singing to it on the radio, I bet everyone does!

RIP

Such a unique character, really sad loss.  Spent many a night singing to their version of Dirty old town!  We should adopt it for the derby now "Scummy old town!"

Exactly.

One of my favourite groups and unfortunately he will be remembered for the 'Fairy tail of NY' which was far, far from his and their best work/music.

Saw them live in the mid 80s. Outrageously good concert.

Saw him live at the NEC back in the 80s and he was brilliant but also so drunk he staggered into Kirsty McColl and knocked her off the stage. Perhaps Shane Duffy could take over this role instead of staggering around in his own penalty area creating havoc.

All this snobbery about Fairytale 🤣🤣! If it wasn't adopted by almost the whole English speaking world as the true misplaced spirit of Xmas, there'd be no question about the strength of the songwriting  I'll be singing it loud this Xmas as always.

But that's for later, before then you'll find me down the Sally Maclanane!
