repman 646 Posted October 7, 2023 I say this every week but I cannot believe we let the SD and head coach sign a load of high wages 30+ year olds this summer. This is basically Webber and Wagner's last dance and it's no surprise to see it go wrong. We gave Smith a chance last season when he'd done nothing to suggest he deserved it and the same happened again this summer. The fact we knew in March that our SD was leaving and didn't see that as the perfect opportunity to start again is insane. The foundations at the end of last season were there to be built on, now they're saddled by players who will be near enough impossible to shift until their contracts are up. Last season we had the 7th youngest squad in the league, and that was with Pukki's contract up, Krul being replaced by Gunn during the year and Onel's contract running down too. For some reason we decided to go all in on this season despite us being nowhere near close last year, we are now the 3rd oldest side in the league, and seem to be no better off with this added experience. It's amazing how if Webber had left in the summer he would have left us in a decent place, albeit not what he or any of us would've liked but certainly better than what he found us in. Unfortunately I think he has done the damage now to take us back to square one (certainly on the pitch, the infrastructure behind everything is undoubtedly better and will serve the club well in years to come). canarybubbles 1,975 Posted October 7, 2023 Let's not beat up Gibson about that own goal. It was an awful performance by the whole team and anyone could have ended up being the scapegoat. We are rubbish. Idah and Hwang are utterly useless and should be in L1 at best and probably in L2, we have an excellent creative player in midfield in Sara who could possibly survive in the PL but don't provide support for him when we have it in a player like Forshaw , our central defence is old and slow and always seems to find a way to screw up, and our head coach has encouraged the selling of decent players like Mumba and Tzolis for dross like Idah and Hwang and seems to specialise in making substitutions which leave us much worse than what was on the pitch before he made them. This is not Gibson's fault. It is the fault of a club that had a wonderful opportunity and pi**ed it up the wall, and that begins at a much higher level than individual players.

Hwang is even worse which is quite an achievement. Webber is a complete fraud. As for Wagner his tactical inability is now costing us regularly also. We had no central midfield for the last 20 minutes of that game. The goal was coming. It needed Forshaw on and a steady hand but he only ever seems to sub the wide players. Apart from the one time that is when we were completely controlling a game midweek when he decided to f**k it up. so  frustrating.  I agree re Forshaw. It seemed the obvious one. No, but on his first day we had a squad with way, way more potential and considerably more market value than the one we now find ourselves with. The Murphy twins, Maddison, Lewis, Godfrey and Aarons were already here, Pritchard would bring in an eight-figure sum. We have Sara and Rowe, the rest are worth peanuts. It's mismanagement on a scale that would even embarrass the Tory Party.

I don't think it is. Although it would be better if we stopped the midfielder dropping in between. I would rather see the two centrebacks play closer, passing shorter playing further up the pitch. Play tight pass to midfield who can be more expansive.
GJL Mid-Norfolk Canary 1,821 Posted October 7, 2023 Thought by and large Duffy and Gibson stood up to what was thrown at them today....you have to wonder whether bringing on Baath only added to the confusion in ouf own back line. Might we have been better bringing on Forshaw to play in front of the back line??
keelansgrandad 6,679 Posted October 7, 2023 It has to be down to the coach first and players second. If a player isn't up to it its hardly his fault. But the coach is now allowed to stand on the side of the pitch and bark out orders to his players. So was Wagner the one telling the back four to pass it among themselves rather than go for a second goal? If not he had ample time to tell them to stop it and push up the pitch. If you are Pep with the players at your disposal then you can keep possession for as long as you want. Unfortunately we don't have that luxury and knowing that we concede at 1.6 goals a game, it should be evident a second goal is important. So I have lost patience with the man. Its not the players, its him.
