Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man 3,822 Posted May 28, 2022 If he isn't trying to play the ball, then why on earth is he sliding in like that? You can guarantee 100% that if the goal had been given, Walton would say it was an intentional play of the ball. That's why he didn't give an opinion until after the decision was made. Something they do with NFL coverage is bring the their 'rules experts' in live when reviews are happening so you do occasionally get them saying 'this is what should happen' before the on field refs do the opposite. Branston Pickle 3,661 Posted May 28, 2022 The offside was a tricky one - shows how ‘we’ mostly don’t know the rules, but that’s because they’ve messed them up so much.

Walton has the easiest job in football just agreeing with whatever decision the ref has made.
TheGunnShow 5,940 Posted May 28, 2022 Not watching the game so can't comment on the actual offside, but this sounds like a classic example of how the offside rule is amended to the point it's unfit for purpose. Put it right back to the early days - if you're ahead of the ball, and you're ahead of the second-last defender at the moment it's played, you're off. End of. None of this "interfering with play" or "deliberately playing the ball" - it's just adding complicating factors that not even VAR is remedying. Moreover, it makes the game less confusing at grassroots level.

They do the same in Basketball when a team challenges a call and they nail their colours to the mast before the judgement, not like Peter Walton the spineless little **** who just blathered until a decision was made and then did what he could to defend it. That should have been a goal.

Ball in the Liverpool box, Kounate slides in with his back to goal, gets his foot to the ball first, Fabinho slides in facing the goal but as Kounate gets the first touch, it bounces up into his thigh and heads in the opposite direction to how Kounate hit it and falls to Benzema, who is in an offside position (which as we know, isn't an offence). Oh, and the last player to touch it before Kounate was also a Liverpool player.
