Duncan Edwards 2,261 Posted September 2, 2019 Wonder how much interest there’d be if the kids made the final?

I understand why people are dismissive, it has traditionally always been a lower league competition and a chance for said clubs to get to Wembley. In that respect, the first time Spurs Youth or whatever win it, it will somehow devalue it. But would we, collectively, turn down a Wembley final purely on principles? I was thinking about going to Oxford because I’ve never been before...🤷♂️
GJL Mid-Norfolk Canary 1,800 Posted September 2, 2019 An anomaly with this competition is that in an already difficult task of an u21 team playing a professional 1st team, is then shorn of any international players i.e idah, adshead, mair, fitzpatrick, due to the international break, making the task even harder

I read that somewhere recently and it surprised me.

JF 694 Posted September 2, 2019 A sign of how football has become, when I saw the thread ‘Oxford United’ I though I was opening it to see another club facing going to the wall, thankfully it’s not!

Man City academy got to the quarters last year, surely you’d have to stop them at the group stage (if they finish 1st or 2nd then 3rd place goes through), otherwise somebody is going to effectively get a bye in one of the knockout rounds.

Branston Pickle 3,683 Posted September 3, 2019 This match clearly hasn’t piqued our interest too much - over 35 mins into the game and there doesn’t seem to be any comment on it! 0-0 at the mo.

Branston Pickle 3,683 Posted September 3, 2019 Sounds like the keeper, Johnson, has had a decent game - good experience for the lads to play a half-decent L1 side even if they’ve made a few changes.

Year of the tiger 59 Posted September 3, 2019 Lads played really well but seemed to run out of gas towards the end. Not surprising really as very young side, with only one player out of his teens & 16 year olds on te bench.
