Pretty much this. Although at times it was hard to see what purpose he served he has left us in a position not just flying high in the league but the entertainment is back. It was said that this new setup was his idea and what a decision that is now proving to be

Yes, thank you for giving Neil a £2 million bonus for getting us relegation payable on getting the sack.

So your view is that Ed Balls was solely responsible for giving Alex Neil a contract similar to that many other managers have, but had nothing to do with the decision to comp!etely reorganise the club and recruit Webber?

I think that makes it clear to most of us how much credence to give the rest of your posts.

Let me try again....he has gone, we do not have a Chairman so what happens next ?

For the moment presumably Foulger, as deputy chairman, takes over. I don't think there is any great split on the board that would require a quick replacement.

No idea about beyond that. But we have had two proactive (hate the word but..) chairmen in a row in Bowkett and then Balls, both of whom made at least one significant and beneficial contribution.

Bowkett by sorting out the debt and Balls by at the very least building the case for the new structure. There is an argument that Smith and Jones had already been keen on the idea before Balls arrived, but he certainly visited other clubs to get the views of experts such as Comolli, who may even have said Webber was the man to get if he could be prised away from Huddersfield.

The EDP has provided a kind of answer, but without a real explanation:

With a new management structure in place it means – for the time being at least – Norwich City will operate without a chairman.

Not quite sure what the reasoning is there, since I doubt the new management structure, of having a triumvirate below board level instead of an old-fashioned CEO who is also a director, has altered the role of the boardroom/directors so that a chairman is no longer needed. The two are not obviously connected.

Most organisations need a chairperson. to represent the club and to oversee the board. Preferably someone with influence, ideally but not necessarily a supporter. First woman chairperson a la Karen Brady ?

I also found this strange. I can’t see how the new management structure means there isn’t need for a chairman.

I presume what the EDP mean, or they were told and slightly misunderstood, is that a ‘hands-on’ chairman such as Balls or Bowkett isn’t required. Someone to chair meetings and be the voice of the board is still very much required.

One of the benefits of Norwich’s structure was it was spreading power across several people, all experts in their fields. I do worry that Norwich are slipping back into old habits where they find someone who brings success and gives them complete control - which is seemingly what happened with McNally.

A strong, critical voice is needed in the boardroom to keep Webber and co on their toes. I feel Balls provided that well and not replacing him or having a weak chairperson would be a mistake.

Most Boards are typically made up with a combination of executive and non-executive directors. As things currently stand, City has five non-executive Board members with the three executive officers just below Board level.

The Club can have a minimum of four and a maximum of eight Board members, so, maybe, the long term solution is already before us?

If NCFC are looking to have another crack at the Big Time then it would be very, very foolish not to bring in a new director with a lot of money.

Everyone should know by now that a successful team in this league does not equate to the same thing in the EPL; and as soon as you get promoted you need to buy a whole new team; and even then it might not work, eg. Fulham.

The reality is that the Suffolk Socialists will do no such thing because they are of the view that only they can be trusted with the future of NCFC and that trustworthy suitors do not exist in any corner of this globe. Another boy Mansoor who is just itching to plough £3bn into NCFC over the next ten years is just not welcome here.

Verdict: any promotion followed by immediate relegation. Hence, as you were. Delia's default position = Championship. End of.
